A Little Tap to Push Me or Break Me

A Modern Day Chinese Water Torture

It is raining again here in Maine

They say this is the wettest July on record

Going back one hundred years

It would be a real feat

To be able to look back at your life

For the past one hundred years

Now that is a goal

I can certainly shoot for

Do I have any takers?

It is so much fun to accept a challenge

It is even more fun to win

Then again isn't it all about waiting and dreaming

That's where I come in

I do my very best

I love to see other people push way past their own potential

A kind of win-win

Even if we don't all make it that far

We have great company along the way

I figure I have only fifty years to go

I am halfway there

Scroll to Continue

Maybe you are three quarters there

Then I have my work cut out for me

I put a cooler on the deck

Right under our back gutter

There happens to be a leak in the gutter in that very spot

So when it rains

I can hear a constant drip

I was going to move it

Then I realized that would be no fun

Maybe that drip is there for a bigger reason

To remind me to push on

Not only when it rains

How about when it is sunny

Every day that we have is a wonderful and amazing hidden blessing

It is up to us to discover it

The dripping sound has a constant beat

A rhythm all of its own

I have heard in the past

We should all beat to our own drum

I will be honest with you

I do find that constant dripping aggravating at first

Then after a few hours, that's all you hear

You are starting to close in on crazy

Luckily, the rain stopped

Then I forgot all about it

Until it rained again

How quickly we tend to forget

Is it because we are so busy?

Maybe, we think or pretend we are busy

It is an easy excuse for all our actions we don't like

So maybe it is time to man up

Be better than I can be

Once again I know I am going to have a tough time doing it alone

Any ladies want to join

Time to women up too

Put your best foot forward

Cut your losses

Strive for our personal best

This way we don't have to strive for perfection

Way too much unnecessary pressure

We all should be our own person

Not in head to head

Drag out to the death competition

Instead help each other

Do better

Pick them up

In return, if you are blessed

They may find it in their heart

To help you along the way

If not don't worry about it

There is so much to learn

Now is a good time to start

BRENDA ARLEDGE I find the little things can grow to be big things. When that happens they are much harder to fix. I have had a tooth that I started a root canal on and I ran into other expenses so I have put it off. The other day out of the blue the tooth gave me an ache and boy I don't know what caused it but I couldn't sleep. I took a few Tylenol and it helped. When the pain went away the thought of going back to the dentist disappeared fast. During the night I wanted to go to the dentist right then and there. Other things can be better if we wait and give them a little time. It takes me a while to get to my comments if I have any. There is so much to do and only so much time. Priorities have to be set in stone. If not I will keep playing Russian Roulette and skip here only to get there. I try not to rush to work. Sometimes I have little choice when I hit traffic. Then I left late for work to begin with. It's a snowball effect. I don't want to be at the bottom. It might have turned into an avalanche. If we have a lot of rain I put off cutting the grass till a sunny day. Then work calls me to come in early and I can't do it then. The grass grows longer and taller. Harder to cut. We all have to make choices and only to later do we realize if these were the best choices. Sometimes we can fix the problem other times it just doesn't work. I find when I can't do something I turn to my wife and say I need help. I often like to try doing it myself. When she gets mad I tell her to ask for my help before you get mad next time. I may not be able to solve the problem then we can get mad together. Teamwork. Thank you so much for always commenting and sharing thoughtful advice. I hope you are making out o.k. with the hurricane. Have a dry day.

Gypsy Rose Lee We have to all learn to pick up the pieces where ever they fall. Master the art of taking care of ourselves and the ones we love. Hold on to that precious love. I think animals bring out that love and kindness. They help us in our most difficult times. Constantly needing love and giving so much in return. We have to take a step back and realize we need to keep a positive and productive peace of mind. Times get tough and you find a way through them. You are definitely a friend who I am so glad to know. Better days are ahead. Even in the hardest things that we do there is a satisfaction that keeps giving. We have to take the time and appreciate it. Keep up the good work. The kittens are what you need in your life. The rain can cause some gloomy weather. I love the rain. It gives me a refreshing feeling. That makes flowers grow and time to relax and take life slowly. Thank you for your wonderful comments. I have found myself in a funk. Where I try to avoid the tasks that I find unpleasant. In the end, they still have to be done. I got a procrastination fever. It took a while. Now I have sent it packing. I feel better and am slowly gaining speed and will be back to my old self again. Have a great day. 2 weeks later and want to do and say so much more.

It's those little things that are so irritating...then we forget about them until the next time it rears it's ugly head.

Sometimes we just get used to them, but other times we know we gotta do something to make it better.

It's always great if we work together.

Linda Crampton I love life in so many ways. We live every day and expect it to go a certain way. There are many surprises along our own journey in life. If we all try our best and join forces then I am sure we can all be better than if we tried it alone. Thank you so much for reading and sharing. 2 weeks later and finally I started to respond. Life gets so busy then it gets so slow. I am always searching for a happy medium. Have a beautiful day.

For me iti s what I can make of it - that is life, There are times when just some french fries will do and other times I open a can of something, That is how I feed myself because hey, there is no chef in the kitchen and in my situation I can only make one online grocery order per month. We had our share of rainy days in July too and it all resulted in making for humid tropical kind of weather in August, The kittens are growing and very playful and I hope to move than to the other room tomorrow and introduce them to cat toys and the big cat tree hopefully solving the problem of them destroying my workroom, I hope you have a wonderful weekend,

Your poem is thought provoking. You've shared some interesting ideas about life and some good advice.

John Hansen I have to know what is your secret? My guess is that you are the fastest typist in all of Australia. Either way, I am so happy to be the lucky guy who gets a comment. I took a look back at some of my old hubs who never got one comment. I average three to seven comments a hub. So poems are not everyone's thing. So many people specialize in one topic or another. I don't have one nitch. I love life in general. The whole kitten and kaboodle. Rain here and a little fog. Off to do some food shopping. Then who knows? Thank you again not just for this comment but for the thousands that came before.

Yes, I sure was fast on the draw with this one. You are right that we need to keep eating right and exercise more to meet our respective countries average age to live to. But I also agree we have to treat our wives right.

DREAM ON (author) on August 05, 2021:

John Hansen I think you were fast with a gun in your past life. A great one at that. Maybe a lawman. I hit publish and there is a comment almost instantly. You are fast at the draw. It takes me a long time to comment and a longer time to write. I am more of a thinker than a fly at the seat of my pants kind of guy. So I have to contemplate and think my thoughts out. If I was in a gunfight I would look like a water barrel with big holes in it. I think I will rather be a bartender and listen to all the good stories. Watching everyone else have a good time. Unfortunately, bartenders got in the middle of a lot of fights. At least in the movies. The bartender most of the time takes a bullet. You are on. You have to keep one promise? Keep writing so we can see all the incredible times just in case we forget a few. I Googled it and males can live 80.5 in Australia compared to 75 years in America. You got me beat. I think I might move to Australia after all. As long as our wives live longer that makes me happy. Females 84.6 in Australia and in America 80.5. So we both have to eat right and exercise more. In the meantime makes sure we treat our wives the best. Thank you for all your lovely comments. Happy writing.

We just always need to strive to do our best, Dream On. Let's aim for 100 years, sounds like a good goal to me.
