Do you know who is Bill Gates? Do you know who is Warren Buffett? Well, I am sure you know about them, after all, they are the world’s 2nd and 5th richest man. Well, I took their names to remind you about one interview. During that interview, they were asked - if they can get one superpower what that power will be? And they both said - they wish they can get superpower to read faster.
By the way, let me also tell you both are big book lovers and reads a lot. And if you check some of the habits of rich people you will find they like to read a lot. Whether it’s Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk.
When I say reading books here I am talking about reading self-improvement books, motivational books, technology-based books etc.
So, in this article, I want to share five major benefits of why reading books are important for life.
It Helps In Improving Our Focus And Concentratiin
Reading a book needs lots of focus and concentration. You need to give proper attention and time to do this task. While many people read just to pass the time but if you want to read self-improvement books you need to concentrate.
There is a saying that says - “read between the lines”. Many times writers don’t disclose the fact and it provides clues to readers to find out the fact himself. So, if the reader will not focus and concentrate he will miss the important points. I have personally found that if you read every day your power of concentration will improve.
Reading Books Can Give You Direction In Life
To make you understand this point I will again use the example of the world’s greatest investor, Mr Warren Buffett. In one interview he said many people ask him the wrong question. And since he is billionaire, many people wanted to know what kind of cars he owns or drive. But in reply to this - he said these are the wrong questions and rather people should ask what kinds of books he reads.
He wanted to emphasis that because of his habit of daily reading he became super-rich and wealthy. So, people should ask him what books, or journals etc gave him that knowledge and insights. Before investing in any company he reads so much about them that he can foresee how big that company will grow in future. And he gives all his credit of wealth to his reading habits.
Books Are Great Source Of Inspiration
Many times in our life when we go through a tough situation we need someone to motivate us. And during those times books can play a great source of inspiration. In the old times when people got inspired by reading the inspiring stories of many great men.
Today also if you are going through the bad phase and need inspiration then pick up a book of any great entrepreneur. And you will find that all great entrepreneurs of the world also faced many difficulties in their life. But due to the burning desire to succeed, they achieved their goal.
Reading Books Will Help You In Writing Better
When you start reading daily, you will find that you can now comprehend sentences better. And because of this ability, you can write even better. You will even find that you can write the same sentence in many ways.
In my own experience, I have felt that after writing my articles, if I read four to five times I can easily pick up any errors. Earlier I was not using this technique but after using this technique my writing style has improved. So, I will certainly recommend this habit, especially for writers.
It Will Serve As A Source Of Imagination
Now at this point, I will talk about the power of imagination. If you read the biographies of many successful entrepreneur you will find that many of them started something new. They came up with some brilliant solution for some problem. How is it possible?
Well, one source can be their habit of reading books. When you read, you will know about many issues. Then there are possibilities that your brain can give a solution. Whenever I read books of successful people my mind go wild by reading their life stories. My mind starts seeing the power of their imagination by which they build their business empire. As there is a saying - imagination is everything.
As we have seen many benefits of reading. My advice will be just read at least half an hour daily. You can start your day by reading some self-improvement books. If possible don’t start your day by reading negative news in the newspaper. So, select something positive in the morning. And this one habit can transform your life.
