My Evening Walk: Rain, definitely has a positive impact on our senses

It was time for my evening walk, and I had to complete my daily steps.
The sky was overcast with dark grey clouds, and I could feel the gentle breeze on my face.
The weather forecast also stated, that light to heavy rain was expected in my area. But, they had predicted the same yesterday, and day before yesterday, but it didn’t rain.
The dark clouds appeared, and then disappeared.
Should I go for my hour long walk, or avoid it, in case it rains, eventually?
But, I didn’t want to miss my evening walk.
So, I left my home for the nearby jogger’s park.

The weather was pleasant, and I was enjoying the smell of the greens.
Hardly fifteen minutes into my walking, and I could feel the first cool raindrop on my face.

How much, did I love it!!

Then more drizzle, and some more drizzle, and the frequency went on increasing.

Rain definitely, has an impact on our senses.

It’s difficult to describe, how a few drops of rain can soothe your soul, calm your nerves.

Now, I had to decide, whether to rush back home, or spread my arms, and enjoy the heavenly pleasure.

I ‘had’ to decide for the later option— I took off my shoes, and felt the wet grass, under my feet. I spread my arms, while looking upwards, closed my eyes, and started feeling the magic.

I stood there for sometime, healed my senses, and drenched my soul, with the downpour of love, from above.

Coming back home, it was time for the typical Indian, hot ginger tea, with some fresh onion pakodas.

Simply wonderful!!!

FlourishAnyway from USA on July 28, 2021:

Great collection of quotes here. My favorite is the Roger Miller quote. I just returned from a vacation to the desert and a thunderstorm caused a mudslide that shut down a highway and almost prevented us from returning home. Rain doesn't cause problems like that back home, but we have to contend with hurricanes this time of year. It often seems like there's either too much or too little when it comes to rain all over the world.

Lora Hollings on July 28, 2021:

I think that it must have been a spectacular walk that you had in the rain, Chitrangada. How refreshing and cleansing not only to the physical self but to the spiritual self as well. I loved your quotes! The following is one of my favorites: “Anyone who says that Sunshine brings happiness, has never danced in the rain.”—-Author Unknown.

We are finally getting a real monsoon season in the desert and I've been going for walks every day in the rain for the last couple of weeks. It feels so good after having such a long drought and a heat wave in June with temps reaching as high as 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Thank you for helping us all appreciate rain more with your article and it's beautiful quotes! Thanks for sharing.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on July 27, 2021:

Chitrangada

An absolute wonderful poem about being caught in the rain.

I can picture each part. I can see her taking her shoe off and letting the rain hit her.

So soothing as it embraces one's soul.

It always makes me feel so alive..so no, I don't carry an umbrella.

I love your quotes. This one is my favorite:

Raise your words, not voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.”—Rumi

Shauna L Bowling from Central Florida on July 27, 2021:

Chitrangada, I enjoyed your cleansing walk in the rain. I was right by your side as you lifted your face to the heavens, closed your eyes and let the drops water your soul.

It's hard to pick a favorite quote from this group, but I really like Pooh Bear's advice: When life gives you a rainy day, play in the puddles." Indeed!

Your photography is outstanding.

Beautiful piece, Chitrangada!

Mary Norton from Ontario, Canada on July 27, 2021:

Yesterday afternoon, we watched the rain on the lake sitting in our boat house. It was interesting as it brought hail as well. I love all the quotes you put in. There is so much to appreciate about rain.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on July 27, 2021:

I loved the fact that you went for it, got wet, and enjoyed the rain! Those are some great quotes you assembled.

Liza from USA on July 27, 2021:

I love rain. However, we are having a long summer drought in Utah. It is definitely a challenging time. I hope we will get some rain soon. Thank you for sharing these beautiful quotes of rain. They give me positive vibes, Chitrangada!

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on July 27, 2021:

A lovely walk, and I am slightly jealous. We haven't had rain for 45 straight days, a very dry summer indeed. So thank you for taking me along on your walk. It was wondrous!

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on July 27, 2021:

I love your story about staying our walking in the rain, Chitrangada. All of the quotes are good, and they remind us to love and accept the rain as a necessary event for our earth to be green.

I particularly like ”Raise your words, not voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.”—Rumi. It is so true!

Thank you for sharing, and I enjoyed reading your article.

manatita44 from london on July 27, 2021:

I'd love some of your fresh onion Pakodas. Are they like Bhaji?

I love the rain too. I have a few Odes on this subject.

”Raise your words, not voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.”—Rumi

As you known, one's Master is one's favourite, but Rumi is my second, among greats like Guru Nanak, Hafiz, Kabir, Mirabai, Rabia and much more. I'm only talking about the poets though. The Direct descendants of Brahman (Avatars), well ... that's another subject and of course, they are poets too.

A soothing piece, my Didi ji. Let me know when you are coming to London, so I can order my Pakodas, Mango Lassi and Ras Malai in advance. (Smile). O, some Biryani too. Vegetable.
