Happy International Women’s Day-8th March, 2020

What do women think about the other women?

  • When someone asks me to define a woman/ women, who has/ have influenced me, many strong women come to my mind, and I start analysing their special and significant characteristics.

But the first woman, who comes to my mind is, —My Mother.

  • Before becoming a mother myself, I didn’t even realise, how much I was influenced by her significant characteristics. A symbol of love, warmth, kindness and compassion on one side, whereas a picture of integrity, discipline, determination, on the other. I believe, that includes most of the good qualities of the women.
  • Yes, each one of us has a role model, in the form of a woman, in our lives. She could be your mother, sister, wife, daughter, daughter-in-law, a spiritual guru, your neighbour, a social worker, a leader, a working professional or anyone.
  • Women have exemplary qualities, and there is no doubt about that.
  • That is not to say, that women do not have, not so good qualities. They do have, because they are after all humans, and not God. But, today we are discussing only the positive qualities of women, to celebrate The International Women’s Day. Right?
Each time, a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women.—Maya Angelou

Thank you so much Manatita, for your kind words for my parents. Like any other person, I am deeply inspired by my parents. It’s difficult to express my feelings towards them, in words.

You are a noble soul and it’s so easy to understand this, through your writing.

I am glad that you liked this small tribute to the women in our lives. I myself feel blessed to be a woman, to be a mother, a daughter, wife, and so many other roles, in the family and the society.

Thank you for your wonderful comments. Looking forward to read your article about women. Thank you.

FlourishAnyway from USA on March 07, 2020:

Terrific and inspiring quotes. Especially when women have faced such recent challenges here in America, these are so welcome.

Venkatachari M from Hyderabad, India on March 06, 2020:

A great article describing the qualities of womanhood. It's a nice tribute to the celebration of International Women's Day.

My inspiration and role model was my wife who possessed the qualities mentioned by you at Quote No.2 and No.5. But, she was neglected by her mother and hated by her siblings and even some neighbors for her unique qualities. They wanted her to be the ordinary submissive type. But, she never lost her aim of becoming a special woman who lived boldly attacking vicious people and helping the helpless ones around her.

OLUSEGUN from NIGERIA on March 06, 2020:

When women value themselves, men would have no option. Lovely piece.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on March 06, 2020:

These are all excellent quotes. The strongest influences in my life started with my mother and grandmothers. Other women I have met along the way have also left imprints upon my mind. This post of yours is perfect for celebrating the International Women's Day.

Suzie from Carson City on March 06, 2020:

Chitrangada......WONDERFUL, inspirational quotes honoring women....I love this & Thank you for publishing it. I love & support women of strength, wisdom, morality & compassion. They deserve to be celebrated & applauded. Like YOU, for instance! Peace, Paula

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on March 06, 2020:

I never thought about this. It is just assumed in my little brain and heart. I cannot even think of a woman I have known well who did not inspire me to be a better me. (of course I get to chose who I know well ;-)

Love the choices of quotes very positive in a sometimes difficult world.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on March 06, 2020:

My mother was such a stong woman and she influenced me greatly. My grandmother, a good friend and also two nurses also come to mind when I think of women who influenced me. I love the quotes. They are excellent and they make you think. I am glad to be a woman.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on March 06, 2020:

My wife is the strongest woman I have ever known. She amazes me daily. Thank you for the reminder. Beautiful quotes!

Lorna Lamon on March 06, 2020:

Wonderful quotes which lift women up, so that they can inspire others. If I had to pick one quote it would have to be No 1. "Each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women." - Maya Angelou.

Perfect timing for 'International Women's Day'. Thank you for sharing Chitrangada.

Umesh Chandra Bhatt from Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, India on March 06, 2020:

Rosina S Khan on March 06, 2020:

A timely piece for International Women's Day indeed. I loved all the images and quotes. But my fave quote is the very last one:

’A strong woman builds her own World. She is one who is wise enough to know that it will attract the man she will gladly share it with.‘

Thank you, Chitrangada, for such a wonderful contribution.

Claudia Smaletz from East Coast on March 06, 2020:

As always, I love reading your articles that are insightful. Keep writing and there are many wonderful women that have influenced me including my mom who died when I was seven a gifted artist and writer and very principled at 42, my grandmom, a teacher and musician who died at 80 after raising her 3 grandchildren, (my sisters and I) my dad's sister who died young at 27, another artist and singer and was full of joy. There have been a few fictional charters that have influenced me including Mary Richards from the Mary Tyler Moore show and Mma Ramwotswe the lead character the the book series The Number One Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith. The list goes on and on. Thank-you for this article.

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on March 06, 2020:

I'm not a woman, but this is a very good article to commemorate International Women's Day. Wonderful quotes.

manatita44 from london on March 06, 2020:

A beautiful and very necessary piece, my Didi Ji. In fact, you don't even need to tell me about your own mom, or even dad. I see them in you.

I have written a poem about women. In fact, I have written about 60 poems on women. I will post a piece soon. Ram has given you His virtues/qualities to manifest in a certain way and man theirs for the same reasons. Together we are meant to compliment each other.

A charming and loving piece. Jai Ram!
