You know who you are. You're the guy who came up with the most creative excuses not to go to gym class. You're the girlfriend who always gets a headache when a hiking trip is planned. The mere mention of physical exertion makes you sweat and you get a bigger rush reading a book. You belonged to the computer club at school or played in the band. You are not lazy. It's just that your mental muscles need you more. Your other muscles are just fine the way they are. You are not boring. You can spar with the rest of them just not in the ring. You don't mind watching others strain their bodies. You just prefer to pamper yours. Did you know there are sports designed just for you? Drag your big booty over here and check it out.

BOWLING -

Bowlers take their sport seriously. They wear bowling shirts, special shoes and lots of accessories. They have their own colors and secret warm-up routines. The game of bowling has been around for over 5000 years. It is a genuine sport because they made a movie about it called the Big Lebowski. People who bowl usually like to drink beer and carry a big belly. They talk loud because it's noisy in the alley. Many muscles are used when bowling. They include the thorax, abdomen and back. Mostly the facial muscles are exercised as the bowler looks on in anguish at the released ball rolling ominously toward the gutter.

BILLIARDS -

Billiards has been considered a sport rather than a game since 1893. It is mostly played on green felt to remind us of the grass real sports are played on. Many movies have been about billiards the best being The Hustler. People who play billiards try to look cool. They are often in a bar. The cue stick was invented in the late 1600's and billiards has been played by kings and presidents and commoners. Most people who play are commoners. Sometimes billiard players have big muscles and other big things as well. It doesn't help the game. The key muscles used most in this sport are the deltoid, triceps and biceps.

FRISBEE -

The sport of frisbee can be physically demanding if you are into the ultimate type. Don't worry. Frisbee playing doesn't have to leave you panting. You can always play it with your dog so he can do all the work. The only movie made about frisbee is a laughable film called Frisbee of Death. Again don't worry. It's so bad that the idea will never catch on. The disc had its start with the Frisbee Baking Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut where some guys had nothing better to do than toss a tin pie plate around. Since your dog will be doing the running the muscles most used throwing the frisbee are the deltoids, back and shoulder.

DARTS -

Darts is a pub game first officially recognized as a sport in the United Kingdom. It involves throwing a sharp object at a round bullseye board. Because it is a pub game most dart players loosen up their dart throwing muscles with beer. If you get tired after a few rounds you can grab another cold one and watch the comedy dart movie called Bullseye. It is on DVD. The sport of darts originated in Medieval England where soldiers would lumber over to the local drinking establishment and propel shortened arrows into the bottom of a wine barrel for fun. They knew how to play. Since a good dart player uses more wrist action than anything, not too many muscles are used. Facial muscles are often exercised when a wayward dart narrowly misses someone on their way to the john.

FISHING -

If you count yourself among the unathletic, fishing may be the sport for you. It is a well-respected activity and includes boasting privileges. You don't even have to catch any fish and can still brag about the one that got away. We know fishing is a bonafide sport because there are several movies about it. Gone Fishin' is a good one. People who fish have all kinds of gadgets. They are convinced that these will make them better at the sport. It usually doesn't. Fishing requires patience, daydreaming and ugly hats and boots. A vest with lots of pockets for the gadgets is good too. Primary muscles used are forearms, triceps and shoulders. Facial muscles are sometimes exercised but usually are not since staring into space doesn't require it.

CROQUET -

Croquet was once considered a woman's game but not anymore. It involves hitting a colored ball with a wooden mallet through a wire hoop. Croquet is a genteel pastime that makes you look classy. When you talk about playing it you tend to want to take on a British accent even if you aren't British. It is also a competitive sport for the unathletic and has been around since the 1600's. It used to be called Pall Mall. Croquet has a lot of rules. One is that you can get aggressive enough to send your opponent's ball carreening in an undesirable direction. Now how fun is that. Croquet players can be spotted in several movies especially in 1972's Savages. Many muscles are used playing croquet especially the thigh, back and arm.

HORSESHOES -

Horseshoe pitching became a sport rather than a game in 1919 though its roots are ancient. Apparently during the Grecian Games in the 2nd century those who could not afford to buy a discus to throw would find horseshoes laying about and throw them instead. The target of horseshoe pitching is set up in a sandbox. Though there doesn't seem to be any movies about horseshoes, Curley plays it in the movie Of Mice And Men. People usually play in their own backyards and it is common to accompany the game with BBQ and beer. Stance is very important when preparing to pitch your horseshoe. The more focused and serious you look the more you might impress others. The muscles most used are the biceps, triceps, deltoids and other little muscles you didn't know you had.

BEER PONG -

Beer pong is a bonafide sport since there is a World Series for it in Las Vegas. It is a game of skill or in some cases spill. Beer pong is a drinking game where players attempt to sink ping pong balls into their opponent's beer cup. If they succeed they must then drink the beer and remove the cup. The goal is to remove all the opposing team's cups and get drunk. Most beer pong players think they are very skilled. The longer they play the less skilled they get. A comedy movie was made in 2009 about the sport. It is called Road Trip: Beer Pong. Muscles used are the hamstrings, biceps and shoulders though facial muscles are really what make the game.

Calories burned - 20-30 calories burned in a competitive match.


SHUFFLEBOARD -

Shuffleboard had its start in 16th century England. Players would slide a large cheap coin called a groat down a table. The game was called "shove groat". Eventually they replaced the coin with a silver penny and called it "shovel penny". It graduated from its crude form to become a gentlemen's game. But some ladies liked it too. Betty Grable had her own shuffleboard at home. The game is played in the 1985 movie Cocoon. Shuffleboards are generally found in bars or on ships. You don't have to be old to play it but it helps. The National Shuffleboard Hall Of Fame was established in 1995. I won't name who's in it because you wouldn't recognize them. Primary muscles used are quadriceps, shoulder, chest and triceps.

MINIATURE GOLF -

A small version of the real sport of golf, minigolf is actually an internationally recognized sport. It even has its own organization called the World Minigolf Sport Federation or WMF which sounds impressive. Also called Putt Putt, miniature golf had its start in St. Andrews, Scotland and was referred to as the Ladies' Putting Club. It is now played all over the world by those men and women who are afraid of a real golf course. People use their children as an excuse to play. Most minigolf courses offer whirligigs, plastic flamingos and other interesting diversions like little brooks running beside the fake green. Many movies feature minigolf as part of the script. One of them is 1987's Overboard. Muscles used are shoulders, biceps and back. Facial muscles are sometimes exercised when stifling a swear word.

I had never heard of beer pong. I'll bet that guy in the video has won a lot of glasses, ashtrays, and goldfish at carnivals and fairs.

I too would opt for a more tranquil pastime.

Ha Ha I have to admit that I love sports and watch them as often as I can, I have become quite proficient at elbow bending which is my sport, lifting that bottle of beer to my mouth as I watch sport on TV keeps me physicaly fit and in shape if a beer belly counts as any kind of shape.....jimmy

Great hub and some great ideas. I learned to bowl when I was in the military at base bowling alleys. The games were relatively cheap then. I have always liked fishing and have lately been thinking about cycling. One of the grandsons already has a bike and I bought a pretty decent bike for myself at a yard sale and have been riding some trying to get in shape.

I love this information. Suzanne, you have great collection of Unathletic sport. I really enjoy all this sport. I found that most of these sport are fun. It could release the stress and good for mind. Unfortunately I never try billiards, because I always miss when hitting the ball. Frisbee is good option for me. Thank you very much. Vote up as usual.

suzie, this was great! I must say that I have attempted most of these sports and none of them went well. The darts missed the target and flew into another room, into my hosts' wall. The bowling ball shot back and hit a chair. But my favorite was the time we played 'speed croquet.' It was about 98 degrees out, and we decided not to take turns but to see who could get through the game the fastest with everyone taking turns at once. We turned that classic spot into a meelee! People fell down, got hit in the ankles, and created general mayhem. It was fun!

We played croquet at a family event a few months ago, and inexplicably, I won! After a 20 or 30 year hiatus from the game, what a rush! Can't wait to play again!

We have a fun tradition of wiffle ball (baseball with a very fat plastic bat) at family get togethers. I would recommend adding it to your list. Thumbs up!

Hmm - I'm supposed to be able to do some of these then but I think I missed this boat as well. There are several here that I have fowled up very badly - but at least they gave me funny stories. Seriously love many of these sports - no matter how terrible I have been at them! I'm not unathletic I always tell people - I'm just pathetic!

All my sports were very physical like Hockey, Martial Arts, boxing and racing. I was an avid bowler, too, once upon a time but never had as much fan at the bowling alley as I had watching that hilarious video of bowling accidents. Do hope no one was severely injured! some of these I have actually done. I bowled until a bowling league turned it into an obligation rather than fun. I's like to play Frisbee with the dog but she doesn't seem likely to like it since I can't get her to chase a ball.Croquet was fun when we were kids but I have not been around=d it for years.
