For millions all over the world, Easter has long been a time to celebrate the renewal symbolized by Jesus Christ rising from the dead. That's why these vintage religious Easter cards were created. Although the holiday was combined with Pagan rituals by Emperor Constantine (which gave us the Easter bunnies, eggs, baby chicks and other nature-related symbols we see today), many purists see it as a Christian religious holiday. It is for those people that I compiled this collection of cards that feature the Christian aspects of Easter.

In this collection of vintage religious Easter cards you'll see images of Christ himself, as well as many crosses and people or angels celebrating the holiday. There are also many flowers combined with the more religious subject matter, because they represent the rebirth of spring. I find the combination quite beautiful and some of these cards are truly works of art -- regardless of which side of the religious fence you sit on when it comes to Easter.

My apologies if there are any ads on this page with inappropriate subject matter. I have no control over which ads display.

Instructions for Dowloading the Vintage Easter Cards

Choose a thumbnail of any of the vertical or horizontal vintage religious Easter cards above the large images to the right or below this text. When you click on one of the images, it will appear larger.

IMPORTANT: Once you've chosen an image and see it larger, double-click on the larger image, which will make the best version of the art appear.

Then, if you have a PC, just right-click and save the final version of the artwork to your hard drive.

Happy Easter to you, too, Rose City reader! Thanks for your comment. :-)

Rose City reader on April 09, 2009:

Thank you for posting these vintage cards and making them available! I use a lot of vintage postcards on my Rose City reader book blog, but it is not easy finding religious ones. I am going to use two of yours -- one for Gopod Friday and one for easter Sunday.

Thank you! And have a Happy Easter!

Hi, Mary. Thanks for your kind words.

I thought the ad warning was necessary with this particular content. Some of those ads can be pretty raw!

Marye Audet on February 17, 2009:

Excellent Hub! I like the idea of letting people know you have no control over the ads...I need to start publsihing my own disclaimer!

I love these old cards as well and you designed the page beautifully..
