Unusual Christmas Tree Decorations
I like to have some unusual Christmas Tree baubles on my tree to make it more unique. A few years ago I found an All Black Father Christmas to hang on the tree - it looks awesome - bear in mind my hubby's a rugby playing, All Black supporting Kiwi. The following year I found a kangaroo peeping out of a Christmas stocking to hang on the tree - bear in mind that my daughter is Australian. I think having special things on your tree helps to make the Christmas even more special.
I see so many trees with the same ornaments and baubles hanging from them that I get very excited it I see a unique Christmas tree decoration. Finding a Christmas tree decoration that is perfect for a particular person is also fantastic. Both my hubby and daughter loved their Christmas baubles.
Victorian Christmas Ornaments
The tradition of a Christmas tree has it's origins in Germany, but was really brought to prominence by Queen Victoria - with her German ancestry she had had Christmas trees growing up and once she was queen society followed her every move. I think this is the reason why when we think of vintage holiday decorations our thoughts seem to automatically turn to the Victorian era.
Now although I wouldn't recommend adding actual candles to your Christmas tree as much as the (then) Princess Victoria loved the look, when it comes to Victorian style ornaments ........ I absolutely love them! Check out some of the examples on the pages below.
- Victorian Christmas Ornaments
The Christmas tree that we all know has it's roots in Victorian Britain which is why we love the Victorian methods of tree decorating creating rich, opulent looking Christmas trees
Over a hundred years later and the different styles of Christmas ornaments that are available are endless. You can decorate your tree with themes to suit anyone from your fashion obsessed teen to your sport loving hubby or more.
I absolutely love the range of Christmas decorations available and have certainly written a lot of different pages based around themed Christmas trees. If I had my way I would have a tree in every room in the house just so that I could incorporate a few different themes, unfortunately my hubby doesn't quite share my enthusiasm!
A Christmas Tipple on the Christmas Tree?
Christmas does seem to be a time of excess when we like to indulge and attend lots of parties so it seems appropriate to celebrate your favorite tipple on your tree don't you agree?
Whether you prefer a glass of wine, a cold beer or a fun cocktail then you'll enjoy some of these Christmas ornaments that are based on enjoying a Christmas tipple or two!

Hot Chocolate Christmas Ornaments
Personally I think sitting in front of the Christmas tree with a steaming mug of hot chocolate is divine which is why I believe a hot chocolate Christmas ornament like the one below would be perfect.
Of course while we're talking of hot drinks you can't forget about tea and coffee can you? I love some of the tea Christmas ornaments that are available as you can get them for regular tea as well as other types like jasmine or green so you can get your favorite to hang on your tree. You can even get cute tea pot Christmas ornaments and the like to hang on your tree.
If you prefer coffee well the range of coffee Christmas ornaments is truly amazing. Coffee percolators, pots and coffee machines are all available as ornaments so you really can get a tree dedicated to the goddess of coffee herself - Caffeina!
As well as the tools for making the coffee you can get all of your different types of coffees available to hang on the tree from espresso to mocha and everything in between. You can even get takeout coffees with the likes of Starbucks bringing out a new Christmas ornament every year.
Choosing the Best Christmas Ornaments for Your Tree
With such a large choice of unique and unusual Christmas tree ornaments available it can be a little overwhelming when you're looking to buy some.
You can just go with a nice color scheme as ornaments are available in just about any color these days. The best thing is to think about who your Christmas tree is for, if it's just for you then what's important to you - shoes, a sports team, a celebrity - pick something and you will find that there are ornaments that will suit.
If you have a family then you can do what I do and that's buy a new ornament every year (although I'll admit I tend to buy mine after Christmas when they're usually half price!) or make one that will mean something to a member of your family. I've already told you that we have an All Black Santa on our tree for my hubby, we also have some silver fern ornaments for him and a cute little Kiwi bird. We have some One Direction ornaments for my daughter which we made when she was obsessed with the group as well as a kangaroo and a guitar.
Talking of making Christmas ornaments this can be a fun activity to do with your children and I've spent time making ornaments with my daughter since she was a toddler from wooden stars that she's painted (purple was the color du jour that year!) to sequinned Christmas puddings and then the 1D ones. The One Direction ornaments were ones that I photographed us doing and you can see how to make celebrity ornaments on this link, these can be adapted to anyone from your family pet to your favorite musician.
I love writing about different Christmas ornaments because when I see a gardening ornament I think my late father-in-law would've loved it, when I see a diving or fishing one I know I've found a unique gift idea for my hubby etc. Getting special ornaments that celebrate a baby's 1st Christmas, the first Christmas in a new home or the arrival of a new fur baby into the house help your tree to tell your family's story every year when you put it up.

As crazy as it sounds each Christmas I seem to go backwards in time, I end up around eight years old. I can smell the sharp scent of a real Christmas tree, I can feel the calming warmth of a full on Aussie summers day, I can touch the stickiness of uncooked Christmas pudding and I can see unearthly sparkles on the ceiling when the sun touches the fragile glass ornaments swaying on the Christmas tree.
