Arts & Crafts Crayon Theme Birthday
I had an Arts & Crafts Crayon theme party for my daughter's 6th birthday. This theme would be perfect for children of all ages. You just need to tailor the craft activities so they are appropriate for the age of the children attending.
For your partyware, I would suggest incorporating a mix of colorful plates, napkins, cups and decorations. There are crayon balloons and crayon cardboard decorations that you could add to the party room to pull the theme together.
You will find a large selection of invitations here including painting party, artist & easel and crayons. To embellish your birthday party invitations and thank you cards, I have also listed some artist address labels and custom postage stamps.
There are many favor ideas featured here including paint brushes, paint, crayon erasers, crayon keychains, crayon banks, crayon sharpeners, crayon bubbles, handprint boxes, crayon favor boxes, chocolate lollipops, candy bar wrappers and inflatable crayons.
For your birthday cake and cupcakes, there are crayon candles, crayon cupcake rings, crayon picks, crayon cake decorations, edible sugar decorations, pop top decorations and more. I also feature Paint Palette and Crayon cake photos for inspiration.
Other party items you will find here include a crayon box pinata, art palette snack trays, custom Pin the Paint on the Palette party game idea, party shirts and how to make rainbow crayon cupcakes!
Custom made party invites
For my daughter's invitations, I created custom invitations using Create & Print. My daughter drew a picture. I then scanned the picture and inserted it onto the card with a decorative photo frame from my photo editing program. I downloaded some crayon clipart to complete the invitation.
On the inside of the birthday invitation, I included all of the party details such as date, time, place, etc. I was really happy how they turned out!
Custom Party Supplies
There are many stickers like that one pictured here that you can use to embellish your party favor bags and/or boxes.
Some of the styles include painting, easels, crayons, paint palettes, pottery and more. You can place the sticker directly onto your bag or box or matte it onto cardstock and attach.
Party Supplies & Decorations
Colorful tableware ~ Crayon balloons ~ Artwork
The party décor was all about color! I incorporated brightly colored blue, red, yellow, green and orange plates, cups, napkins, utensils, etc. Another great party item would be this art party pack.
We decorated the party room with colorful balloons & streamers. I also purchased two crayon balloons to add to decorations.
I collected some of my daughter's favorite drawings she had made, matted them on colored construction paper and hung them around the room to resemble an art gallery.
I found a large fabric crayon hanging to accent the party room. It was perfect! We also personalized the crayon theme cardboard decoration pictured below with my daughter's name and age. We hung it on the front door to welcome the birthday party guests.
Another fun party decorating idea would be to purchase a white paper tablecloth and have your child make handprints on it with finger paint. Once dry, you will have a terrific table cover for your celebration.
Awesome Painting Party!
Crayon Theme Cupcakes
Cupcake picks ~ Cupcake rings ~ Candles
I decided to make cupcakes for my daughter's party. I decorated the cupcakes with icing tinted red, blue, green and orange. I topped the cupcakes with colorful sprinkles, cupcake rings and crayon cupcake picks.
There is another cupcake pick design on the market that would also work well for your celebration. I placed the finished cupcakes into a fun cupcake stand and added adorable candles.
Another cake and cupcake decoration includes sugar decorations These Sugar Dec-Ons include 6 pieces per package. Each decoration is approximately 2.125 inches across.
Birthday Cake Gallery
Unique way to serve your birthday party treats!
For fun party snack trays, I purchased two plastic paint palettes. I filled each paint palette with colorful Goldfish crackers and pretzel sticks.
There are many other paint palettes on the market that you could use for your snack trays. Another idea would be to fill paint cups with the snacks. Paint palettes are inexpensive and really pull the party theme together.
These paint palettes would also make a wonderful birthday party activity. You could play the classic penny toss game and have the guests try to toss the pennies into the different sections of the palette. Each section would have a point value.
For the birthday party favors, I purchased smiley face pencil cases to use as the party bags.
I filled the pencil case with smiley stickers, bubbles, a personalized pencil, tattoos, bendable characters, erasers, keychains, and assorted candies.
I placed the party favor bags in a basket and used them to decorate the party room.
Another favor idea would be to go to your local dollar store and purchase inexpensive paints and paint brushes Other party favor supplies include banks, keychains, handprint favor box, inflatable crayons, favor boxes and more.
Great for party favors or for a fun party activity!
I came across this Rainbow Crayon Cupcake Recipe the other day and thought it would be perfect for this party theme.
Making crayon cupcakes is a great way to recycle old and broken crayons and they also make a fun party favor or party activity. You could make the cupcakes ahead of time and either 1) wrap them in cello bags and hand them out as inexpensive party favors, or 2) have them out on the table for the party guests to color with.
Another idea would be to make the cupcakes during the party. Have a bunch of old crayons out on the table when the kids first arrive. The children can each take a small handful of crayons, remove the labels and break them into pieces. Then they can each put their handful into a cupcake liner. After the cupcakes are baked and cooled, they can be used during the party or put into the party favor bags for the kids to take home.

Games & Activities
Since I knew I was going to have a large number of guests, I purchased crafts that the kids could do without much assistance including Magic Scratch Bookmarks, Magic Scratch Glasses, Design Your Own Visor and Artist Cups. I also purchased plain white bags for the kids to decorate with stickers and markers when they first arrived. They used these bags to keep all of their party goodies in!
Our party games:
- Colorful Bean Bag Toss:
I purchased a colorful bean bag game. This coordinated with the crayon theme nicely.
- Pin the Paint on the Palette Game:
A take off on 'Pin the Tail on the Donkey'. I purchased birthday party poster board at Staples and drew a large paint palette on it with the yellow color palette missing. I accented the palette by taping on real paint brushes. I cut out yellow circles and put each child's name on it. During the party, I added some double stick tape to the circle so the kids could stick it to the game board.
- The Crayon Limbo:
I purchased a large inflatable crayon. The kids did the Limbo Rock under the giant crayon!
I had searched and searched, but could not find a good pinata for the party theme, so I went with a colorful #6 pinata for my daughter. It wasn't until after the birthday party that I found this Crayon Box pinata. I so wish I had come across it earlier!
Pin the Paint on the Palette Game
I purchased two colorful crayon pots to store the party game prizes. They also made a great party decoration as they were out on the table during the party.
I decided to hand out porcupine characters for prizes since they were colorful and fun! After the party, you could use these crayon pots to store your child's crayons or art supplies. You could also plant a flower in them and give them out as teacher gifts or use as a unique bedroom decorating item!

Cute Theme Shirts
I purchased the shirts pictured below for the birthday girl and her sister and brother to wear. They were very cute!

I love at-home birthday parties. For my daughters 9th birthday we used a vase I've designed as the party favors. The girls loved decorating the decorative wraps with stamps, "real artist pens, pencils, pastels and paints" and add as much glitter as they liked. Everyone got to take home their vase filled with party favors: pencils with flowers glued to the erasers, lollipops and licorice! Several of my daughters friends have told me they still have their pots and use them as pencil holders. Thanks for sharing your great ideas and wonderful lens ~ Cathy
