Mother and Child
Celebrate Mother's Day Long Distance
We cannot always be there to celebrate Mother's Day with our moms. My mother lived almost 2,000 miles away. Our celebration would be a phone call, sending out a Mother's Day card and gift of flowers. Sometimes I would send her a different gift. She loved flowers as all mothers do.
Had I known then about Mother's Day Vouchers, online coupon deals and specials, I could have sent her a special gift of flowers, a memorable photo gift of the family, a figurine from Amazon or a gift from Zazzle (a custom print on demand store). Something amazing, unique, like her and save up to 50% off a Mother's Day gift, and still feel good about it.

My Daughter - Long Distance - Amazing Flower Bouquet
First Flower Bouquet
(Photo Credit: I Picked These for You Mom - Dandelion Bouquet Print by no_reason.)
I remember when my daughter was in college. Mother's Day was the week of final exams for a student living over 100 miles away from her family! Not the best time to come home. She would call on the phone to wish me a Happy Mother's Day. Then later, after exams she would bring me a bouquet of flowers.
Now she still is living away long distance. With her work schedule, I may not see her for Mother's Day.
I will always remember my daughter's first flower bouquet she gave to me. Too young to know they were weeds, the beautiful yellow dandelions looked so elegant in the vase on the table.
These flowers were special, for they were a gift from the heart.

Happy Mother's Day Aunt Alice - I Will Miss You
A Thrifty Artist
(Photo Credit: Peace Wrapped Canvas by Olivia_Mike)
On March 21 2012, my dear Aunt Alice passed away. She was just short of her 90th birthday. Alice was a very talented person with her art and humanitarianism. She is featured in "Artwork in the Family on Zazzle".. I would have gone to the funeral as I had for my parents, though not possible at the time. All my blood relatives are long distance.
One of the words to describe my aunt in the obituary besides mentioning her great talents and services was "thrifty". Raised by their grandmother, my father and his sisters learned the lesson of thriftiness. Money was tight when they were young and they had to help their grandmother keep the expenses down. My father taught me to be thirty. He said that I needed to be a survivor. He taught me well, for it runs in his family.
To share my sympathy, I wanted to send the best flower arrangement.
Not trying to sound tacky, but flowers for a funeral are anything but cheap. I wanted to get the best deal on a beautiful flower arrangement. I looked through the online flower shops listed through various coupon savings sites to get the best deal with online vouchers, also called coupon codes before sending the flowers to the funeral home. I found a beautify selection of roses and mixed flowers with an attractive vase, yet conservative looking enough for the memorial service.
I think Aunt Alice would be happy to know of my thriftiness. After all, it is in my blood. She may not be with us physically; still, I want to wish her a Happy Mother's Day.

It's when they are no longer around that you realise that even long distance is better than not at all. Great lens and featured on Blessed by Skiesgreen 2012-2. Hugs

Distance is no barrier to the love that we have for a mother! Actually, I have found it to increase many fold as we tend to realize the importance of a mother only when we are far away from her!

Long distance is what we do most of the time. Still, the thought counts.
