How to Throw an Anti-Valentine's Day Party

Are you single, lonely and bitter for Valentine's Day 2015?

Do you Hate Valentine's Day and everything to do with it, but you have friends or family members that are trying to convince you that you need to have some fun and happy times on this dreaded day? Why don't you throw an Anti-Valentine's Day Party for all your single friends and your couple friends who don't want to deal with busy restaurants and unfulfilled expectations? You will have lots of fun and no disappointments or regrets, so no need to be sad on February 14th this year! Cynical fun is definitely the answer!

This site has all the Valentine's Day Ideas you need to make your I hate Valentine's Day Party a success: angry music and movies, Anti-Valentine's day gifts, Anti Valentine's day party decorations, anti-Valentine's Day Party Invitations, Valentine's Party Games and so much more. I guarantee your party will be a huge hit. Your Anti-Valentines Party will hopefully be so popular that you'll have couples wanting to check it out in 2016!

Ground Rules for your Anti-Valentine's Day Party

If you're going to have a fun time that doesn't turn into an "I'm single pity party" then you need to make it clear that it isn't going to be that on your invites. You don't want anyone to come to your party expecting sappy romantic crap. Some of my ideas for Anti-Valentine's party rules:

1. No one is allowed to invite their ex or even mention his or her name.

2. You are not allowed to utter the dreaded V-Word the entire night. The dreaded L-Word (love) should probably be avoided as well to maximize cynical fun.

3. You must not bring any chocolate, wine or champagne to the party. Black things such as Guinness or a cake with black icing are preferred.

4. Do not wear anything pink or red. Black is preferable.

5. You must not speak about weddings, dates, future boy friends or girlfriends.

You can make a point system to enforce these rules. Play some games to win points and deduct some points for violations of these rules. Bonus points can be given for most delicious food brought or best party outfit.

Party Ideas and Decorations

First of all, make sure you keep the party happy, fun and humorous. My suggestion is to modify common Valentine's Day themes for your own usage. For example, use black hearts, cut in 1/2 with a jagged edge. Of use pictures of cupid with his head cut off. Whatever you do, don't use pink or red! You can have vampires or bats attacking cupid. Have some pictures of famous people whose marriages ended in bloody divorce. You can put a jagged black line cutting them in half. Just get creative and use your imagination, or even get your guests to help you decorate.

Music for your Anti-Valentine Party

There are plenty of anti-Valentine's Day music CD's and MP3 Downloads out there. The easiest thing to do would be to buy some, and your music planning is done! I've listed a few below for you. Or, maybe you have some darker music that you like? Make a mix and put it your computer or ipod.

Prizes for your "I hate Valentine's Day Party"

Of course you'll need some prizes for your anti-Valentine's Day Party. The perfect gift is an anti-Valentine's Day T-shirt. Everyone at the party probably feels similar to you about this holiday and now they can show the world.

Drinks for the party

Forget the wine and champagne, and just go with hard-liquor or beer. Include lots of cola and juice options for mixing, or for those who aren't drinking alcohol. A perfect choice for beer would be a stout, such as Guinness. Anything dark in color, representing a black heart.

Or, how about a Bloody Mary? It's easy to make:

Per one drink:

* 1 1/2 oz Vodka

* 3 oz Tomato Juice

* 1 Dash Lemon Juice

* 1/2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce

* 2-3 Drops Tabasco Sauce

* 1 Wedge Lime

Shake everything except lime wedge, in ice. Pour into old-fashioned glass. Add some salt and pepper and a lime wedge.

Anti-Valentine's Party Ideas: Food

For food, some basic ideas would be hearts of any kind or form, broken into 2. Let the guests decorate their own cookies or a heart-shaped cake, with a jagged line running down the middle.

How about some skewers with chicken or veggies on them. Include some spicy peanut dipping sauce.Whatever do you for the main dish, include lots and lots of garlic and don't forget to have some black jellybeans on the table.

Or, just go for delicious and make some nachos!

What are your ideas for an Anti-Valentine's Day Party?

JayPlant on January 27, 2014:

Anti-Valentine's Day! Sounds like the best party, ever! :)

DeeDeeGee LM on January 11, 2014:

Nice, different lens!

If you are alone on Valentine's Day it is awful to watch all those happy couples. But, I do feel happy for them though!

Would never have thought of doing this.

Hal Gall from Bloomington, IN on February 27, 2013:

I love the premise of this lens. Valentine's day has become so commercialized!

wosomovworm on February 04, 2013:

Nice lens.

This video is sharing some great ideas for gifts for him ... have a look -

McDreamer on January 05, 2013:

Depressive day for all the lone hearts...I'm going to paint a load of black hearts and send them to $ Loathe such utter shallow commerce rubbish...Love is NOT $money, nor everyone has got a partner/girlfriend...eek! :(

JoleneBelmain on April 01, 2012:

Well I love Valentine's Day, but I know of people who would love to read this lens lol.

Tom Maybrier on February 03, 2012:

girlfriendfactory on February 02, 2012:

Love it! I'm an Anti-Valentine's Day fan and have been for a long time - even when I had boyfriends and was married. It's an excuse for people to be nice and sweet and say I love you one day a year and that's just wrong. lol I have a line of Anti-Valentine things at my store even and Muriel, the anti-cupid runs it. ;)

This is worth a Flyby from Muriel and it can be found among the other blessed lenses for today at Flyby Wingings! They may call me an aimless wanderer, but not all who wander are aimless and I'm glad I wandered upon this. ~Ren

Good idea for a party! I'm not single, but I still hate Valentine's Day.

Lee Hansen from Vermont on January 26, 2012:

Tee hee. Linking in to this from my lens on the "other" topic ... not saying it, not saying it.

shandigp on January 25, 2012:

Very funny lens!

I don't hate St. Valentine's Day but I don't particularly like it either; so commercial! I won't buy anything St. Valentine's Day related.

NC Shepherd on January 25, 2012:

I don't care for most holidays. This lens is right up my alley! Love it!

jtea3051 on January 24, 2012:

No single, but I still despise the "holiday"

BeyondRoses on January 21, 2012:

Cute, and creative spin on Valentine's Day. Add smiles, and one lace heart. Oh, I forgot ... no hearts, and no red!

MartieG aka 'survivoryea' from Jersey Shore on January 21, 2012:

lilymom24 on January 21, 2012:

Great ideas for those who want to celebrate Valentines Day in a unique way. =)

Frugal Bride on January 20, 2012:

My husband will love this lens! He doesn't believe in Valentines Day. "Its just a way for Hallmark, flower and chocolate companies to get rich off from all the suckers." My reply: "great excuse from a cheap***."

anonymous on December 29, 2011:

I am hating Valentine's Day this year. My husband of 8 years wants a divorce and well frankly love sucks! So I guess I will just have to throw an Anti Valentine's Day Party this year.

Chazz from New York on June 09, 2011:

Very creative ideas and loads of fun. Great attitude too.

Rita-K on February 21, 2011:

Moe Wood from Eastern Ontario on February 20, 2011:

I know couples who would enjoy this type of event. The only really good thing about V-day is the endless supply of chocolate everywhere. LOL

TangledWood on February 17, 2011:

Very funny, and a great antidote to all the sweetness around this time of year, even if I did find it a couple days late.

joanv334 on February 16, 2011:

ronpass lm on February 13, 2011:

Hi Jackie - a very interesting, creative, thoughtful and humorous lens - congrats on the LOTD.

I t made me realize as a person with a partner (and Valentine) it is easy to overlook how lonely some single people can feel on this day.

Very interesting Squidoo Lens ! Funny thing is one of my friends called me last week and said that she was going to an anti-valentines day party. She said that she had to bake something- but it could not be heart shaped or red- those were the rules !

Great lense idea - I am married but I never get flowers or ANYTHING so I don't care about valentines day !!!

greencurator on February 13, 2011:

Its tough to be lonely during the day of love but I am glad that you come up with ways to remedy your loneliness. Your article could help a lot of people out there.

CliveAnderson LM on February 13, 2011:

I understand where you are coming from. It is like all these things these days they are all a bit commercialized. Seems like money is being made from peoples emotions, which when you think about it is a bit wrong. I'm sure if we want to show someone we care we can use our own method that would be genuinely from the heart and not some store or mall... Great lens, thank you for sharing.

Warm Regards,
