Each of the Sanderson Witch wears a different colored costume and each costume reflects something of each sisters personality.

Winifred, the oldest and meanest of these evil sisters, wears green, a color that contrasts with her brilliant red hair. Winnie's costume reminds us immediately of a classic evil witchy sorceress.

Mary, the middle sister, wears a crimson colored costume and it's made of rather blander homespun style fabrics and reflect a cautious trait of her personality.

Sarah, the youngest, wears purple, but it's girly and light. It shows a playful side of her personality.

The Sanderson witch costumes are the perfect colors for the fall season, Halloween, and the witching hour! Each helps us to see a side of their personalities, witchy women and sisters, but each of them has individual traits that define them.

Hocus Pocus: How To Make Winifred Sanderson's Witch Costume

Winifred Sanderson

The trademark of Winnie's look is her striking flame-colored hair, her missing eyebrows and her big buck teeth. This costume is the ultimate sorceress from the past. Winnie is very sensitive about her looks and she hates it when anyone says the word ugly around her. In the movie Winifred is played by Bette Midler.

You can recreate her clothing by wearing a dress in a dark green or purple, or you can also use separates such as a shirt and floor-length skirt. Add a green jacket or vest with a long length and a belt with some sparkles to bring dimension to your costume.

The key to her costume is to go overboard with your accessories by wearing multiple rings, a necklace or some long fake finger nails. Winnie Sanderson is the boss so if you dress like her, make sure you act like her and behave like you are the leader.

Fun costume props to add to a Winifred Sanderson costume are a traditional witch's corn broom we see Winnie with during the movie. A second prop for your costume is the spell book Winnie used in Hocus Pocus. Said to have been given to her by her master, The Devil, the book changes during the film. In one scene the eye on the book is closed, in another scene the eye is open.

Sarah is the siren of the movie in both looks and her ability to lure children to the witches with a song. Her look is thick, long, curly platinum hair and some pale makeup with heavily emphasized lips, eyes and eyebrows will be just enough.

Sarah's witch costume is one of the easiest to create by using a sparkly shirt or corset in shades of brown or rose. She also wears a full skirt in red and purple tones and she keeps a small bag attached to it. Make your costume look more authentic by including a mop and a beaded necklace. Her flirty and playful personality can be brought to life by incorporating fun accessories and frills to this witchy costume.

This pretty looking witch, Sarah Sanderson is played in the movie by Sarah Jessica Parker.

Hocus Pocus: How To Make Mary Sanderson's Witch Costume

Mary Sanderson

The third sister, Mary, is in charge of sniffing out children due to her very sensitive nose. She is always trying to gain Winnie's approval, and that doesn't happen much. Mary is the more cautious of these witchy sisters.

Her signature look is her brunette hair tied up into a swirling up do and she wears bright red lipstick. Create your own Mary costume by wearing a long-sleeved shirt in deep crimson or russet and combining it with a floor-length skirt in plaid or rich browns.

Add a layer of depth by wearing black lace gloves, multiple rings or bringing a vacuum to complete the look. In the movie Mary Sanderson is played by actress Kathy Najimy.
