Would You Like to Experience a Haunted Cemetery?
I was born and raised in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. There are so may haunted places in Natchitoches, but my favorite haunted place has to be the American Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA. This cemetery is said to be the oldest cemetery in the Louisiana purchase and it is located in the oldest town in the Louisiana purchase. The oldest markers that are legible date back to 1797, but there are a lot of the markers that are no longer marked. It has even been said that St. Denis is buried in the cemetery. My grandfather and other family members are buried in the American Cemetery, and I can tell you that the cemetery is haunted!

Other Family Members
My family has a fairly large plot area in the American Cemetery. These are a few of the graves that you can still see the date on, the others go as far back as the mid 1800's.
Stories of The American Cemetery
From the time I was a little girl i heard so many haunting stories of the American Cemetery. I actually believed most of them, because I saw a lot of haunting things growing up in a 19th Century home. The most memorable to hear was a women hanging in amongst the trees in the cemetery. I never heard the story in great detail, but it was a frightening story to hear. There were also stories of a women killing an Ax murder in the cemetery, and it is said you can hear the man screaming at night.
This cemetery has stories for generations. There is a diverse group of people buried there, there was no segregation. I have heard of murders, robbers, politicians, wealthy, poor, black, white, creole, and more. You never know what to expect from such a diverse group, voo doo, witchcraft, revenge! When you visit at night you can feel the haunting spirits, as well as see and hear them!
Do I think it is Haunted?
YES! I have been in the American Cemetery at night, and you would be surprised at what you can see or hear. Even driving by the cemetery at night you can see figures walking through the graves, then they are suddenly gone. My grandfather is buried close to the entrance gate. On a couple of occasions I went there at night, just to get away. While sitting in the cemetery I would hear screaming, talking, laughing, and other strange noises. Some of these noises could be explained by people living close by, but others are so unusual that there is no way that they were made by any person. I have seen figures walking, then just disappearing into a grave or the figure sits by a grave then it goes away.
Pictures of the Haunted American Cemetery
These are pictures taken by my sister and I around The American Cemetery. Even though I have been raised going to this cemetery, I still find it amazing to go and see the history.

The history of the Natchitoches area is great, and there are numerous areas that are haunted, or have unexplained experiences. Ghost adventures has even filmed a show in Natchitoches parish at the Magnolia Plantation. I lived about a mile from this plantation when I was younger. If you are seeking haunted places, go to Natchitoches Parish. Visit the plantations, the hidden graves of the civil war soldiers (some locals do not even know about these), the historic grave yards, and a few of the 18th and 19th century homes that are everywhere. There are even places closer to Robeline/Marthaville area that you can go out in the woods at night, and see crazy things.
The home I grew up in until I was 12 has to be the most haunted place I have been, but I do not think my dad is up for visitors. It was an old hotel of some kind but the upstairs burned, so it became one story. Even though there is only a small loft area up the closed off stairs, you can hear people walking all the time. I have also seen a great aunt when I was little. She had a red dress, and was holding her head in her hands. Come to find out, she was decapitated years prior to me seeing her.

I have seen ghost in my home. But...i went to the entrance of this cemetery and immediately sensed the spirits there. I did not go any further but rolled my car window down and took a couple of pictures. One of the pictures has a ghost seen in it. I have never been so scared to enter a cemetary as this one and i am 62 yrs old.

@tonybonura: Yes it is. I think it is because of the crazy history Louisiana has.

Yes, I have heard of this cemetary. I came across it when I was doing research for my lens about haunted New Orleans. I guess pretty much all of Louisiana is haunted and spooky. It certainly seems that way at times. Lots of times.

Great Lenses. I love cemeteries. I have a lot of kinfolks who live in and around that area. The next time I am down there I will go visit the cemetery. Thanks
