Halloween Decor: Skeletons

Fun And Amusing Things To Do With A Halloween Skeleton!

Halloween is such a fun Holiday. I love seeing all the cool decorations people come up with. And there's so many! Whether they are jack-o-lanterns, bats, spiders, ghosts, or wicked witches; I love them all! But what's Halloween without skeletons?

Over the years I've seen so many crazy and amusing skeleton decorations, and one of the greatest I've seen were pirate skeletons. Maybe I love them because I'm a huge pirate fan, but I think that anyone could get a kick out of them. I've put together my favorites in this lens and many other skeleton decorations. I believe that these can give people some good decorating ideas this year. I hope everyone enjoys this lens!

I love everything about this guy, he is too funny. And the old torn clothing look is awesome!

To get the old torn clothing look, you'll need some cheesecloth. Simply cut some pieces and tear them to make them look ratty. You can also rub them with dirt or stain them with coffee to make them even more grungy. Wrap the skeleton's chest with the grungy cheesecloth, but be sure you still leave a tattered look. If needed pull at the cheesecloth to make it tear and stretch to achieve the look you desire.

Wrap some strips of cheesecloth around the arms and legs and have them hanging for a more ragged effect. Don't forget to wrap a piece of cheesecloth around the skeleton's head as a bandanna. If you wish to glue the cheesecloth in place all you have to do is water down some glue and just "paint it" on with a paintbrush. Make sure the glue soaks through the cheesecloth to the surface of the skeleton for it to stick.

Purple Star!

This lens won a purple star, and I want to say that I very much appreciate it!

What's a purple star you ask?

It's an honor to receive, and it's a fantastic reminder that people love what you do. A wonderful pep that tells you your lens is one of a kind.

I love purple stars and cherish them!

Pose-N-Stay Skeleton

A better than your average skeleton prop. A must have for those who don't want a cheaply made skeleton. Stands on its own two feet and will stay in the position you put him in. You won't have to worry about flimsy joints that might pop off with this guy!

Dead Old Pirate!

If you're lucky enough to have a little pond in your yard, you have an excellent opportunity to take advantage of this cool idea. All you need is the skeleton, mud, and a torn up pirate hat. Just muddy up the skeleton's face and hat, and place it in your pond where people can see it.

If you don't have a pond you can always lay him against some rocks, or your porch stairs! Maybe even put a rum bottle in his hand, spread out fake doubloons near him, or anything else you can think of!

Old Pirate Hat

I wish I had this hat when I was a kid during Halloween. I always loved pirates and would dress up like one even though I was a girl. This was a time when girl pirate costumes were not popular. The only hat we found was the stupid cheap kind that had a skull and crossbones on it. This is a much more realistic replica of what the real pirates once wore.

Shiver Me Timbers! Pirates Ho! - Arrr me bucko!

halloweendecor2

This so reminds me of the scene in "The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" when the two pirates were dressed in women's clothing. That's an idea someone could use if they know where to find old fashioned clothing like that. And it's a great way to decorate and old rowboat you may have. Do you happen to have one in your yard? Or do you know someone who does? If you don't have a boat, you can still prop up your pirate buddies by your doorstep for the trick-or-treaters, and party guests to see! All you need to get this started is right here:

Everything is here except for the rowboat and oars!

Skeletons On The Roof!

This is super cool idea, All you need is a ladder, a few skeletons, lights, and you're good to go!

Be sure to be careful when using a ladder:

Make sure you use a ladder that rests against the eave of the house and that it is two feet or more above it. Have a trusted friend help you steady the ladder as well.

How To Age Your Halloween Skeleton - Some tips to make your new skeleton look like it just crawled out of a grave:

What You'll Need:

Soap

Wash cloth

Hot water

Dry towel

Newspaper or paint drop cloth

Latex gloves

Paper plates

Wide paintbrush

Brown stain

Acrylic paint in Nutmeg, Eggshell, Golden Harvest, and Black

Outdoor Waterproof Lacquer

  1. First wash the skeleton with hot soapy water, use a wash cloth to make sure that it's super clean.

Dry completely with a fresh towel.

  2. Lay out newspaper or a drop cloth on the ground. Put on some latex gloves and squirt some Eggshell paint on one side of a paper plate and the Nutmeg paint on the other. Add a couple drops of Golden Harvest. Mix these three colors with your fingers to get your desired look. Be sure not to use too much Golden Harvest because it can quickly become too yellow. Spread the mixed paint evenly all over the bones with your fingers.
  3. Next put some of the Black acrylic paint onto another paper plate and paint the inside of the eye sockets and nostrils with a q-tip. Hang the skeleton to let dry.
  4. After the acrylic paint has dried, paint on some brown stain all over the skeleton and let dry again.

For the finishing touches to make your skeleton look real:

Use some sand paper and sand the "bones" anywhere you wish to get the look of an old, worn out skeleton!

  5. If you are going to keep the skeleton outside for a decoration you're going to need to put a coat of lacquer on it. This keeps the paint from running off if it's out in the rain. After you put the coat of lacquer on let dry completely before moving the skeleton.

My skeleton cardboard cutout I usually hangup on a wall, pales in comparison to these gems, the skeleton on the back of the old hearse is a good one.

My favourite is the one crawling on the roof! Really good

I like the hanging skeletons especially when they scare the hell out by falling on top of you.

I also like dancing skeletons especially when they dance to mixed music from rap and rock to classics.

Great lens! I love the two skeletons in the boat - it reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean too, even before I saw you say that!
