Brenda loves a good movie including an occasional horror movie. There are ten here on this page. I hope you find a new villain to watch.
The 'Best' Halloween Villains Of All Time
Best is one of those words that is complicated. What does it mean? I think that the 'best' movie villains of all time is an interesting contradiction, when you think about it. How can something that is so horrible be best?
Anyway, this page is an older list of the best Halloween villains using favorites from when we were younger and villains who are so memorable. Some are newer than others and some have been scaring people for generations. They will all be remembered for many more years to come.
I arranged the movies in alphabetical order so that the order will not influence your thoughts when you vote for your favorite horrible movie character at the end of the page.
There are spoilers on this page so if you have not seen a particular movie. Don't read the discussion.
Candyman in Candyman
Candyman was a villain that scared a friend as a child but I cannot help but wonder what she was doing watching it as a child for it certainly is NOT a child-friendly movie. Anyway, the Candyman was wrongfully tortured in the 1800s and comes back to kill anyone who calls on him. All you have to do is say 'Candyman' five times. My friend had nightmares of Candyman coming after her with his hook. This movie is not for anyone who scares easily. Candyman, like most of the movies on this page, is rated R.
Carrie White in Carrie
Carrie is the villain that we are all pulling for even though she just killed off her entire class. How could we not love her? She was picked on and tortured by the popular kids and her home life was less than savory. She just snapped. Who could blame her? She is on my list of scariest villains because a chick with telepathy who is mad is not someone I would want to be alone with. She's also the prettiest villain on this page.
Frank The Rabbit in Donnie Darko
Frank is a scary looking bunny in the nastiest rabbit costume you will ever see. Frank the rabbit predicts the end of the world and tells Donnie Darko to do horrible things in his sleep. Frank is ruthless and creepy...just like the movie. If you like movies with a twisted ending, this is the one to see.
Jason Voorhees in Friday The 13th
This has to be one of the most recognizable masked villains out there. Jason is the machete wielding killer who was immortalized as the boy who drowned at Camp Crystal Lake. Many people don't know that the film was actually created with Mrs. Voorhees, Jason's mother, being the killer and the film ending in her death. Before the filming was over, it was decided to have Jason 'come back' from the lake and continue to avenge his mother's death. How sweet. It wasn't until the third film that Jason took on the hockey mask look that we all recognize today. Jason is a villain icon and deserves to be on any Halloween list.
Michael Myers in Halloween
Michael Myers is the scariest villain that you will never truly understand. He murdered his older sister as a child and was committed to a Sanitarium. After 15 years, he escaped and went on a killing spree. Over the course of nine films, Michael has terrorized what is left of his family and their friends and keeps coming back after several 'attempts' on his life...if he even is alive. That's what makes Michael so scary. He is a soulless individual with no regard for human life and he also possesses an intelligent quality that makes him hard to outsmart. He is like the complete package when it comes to villains.
Freddy Krueger in Nightmare On Elm Street
You knew Freddy Krueger was going to be on the list...he's on every Halloween list. Why? Because Freddy is awesome. He never dies! He keeps coming back to terrorize the families of the people who killed him. Wouldn't you? Freddy was the first villain to keep us up at night and he still gives all of us the heebie jeebies. Thanks for all the nightmares, Freddy!
Damien Thorn in The Omen
Damien is the Antichrist...literally. He has the 666 birthmark to prove it. He is an orphaned child who ends up in the care of Mr. and Mrs. Thorn. What makes Damien so scary is that he is a child who has enough gumption to push his pregnant mother off a balcony with his tricycle, making her lose her unborn child. Any kid that would do that scares the ***beep*** out of me.
Norman Bates In Psycho
Can you honestly tell me that you have never thought about the deadly bathroom scene when you were getting ready to take a shower at home? Norman Bates was a great villain because he was so unsuspecting. Creepy, yes, but he seemed harmless. I think those are the best kind of villains. The added element of him being schizophrenic and pretending to be his dead mother didn't hurt either.
Jigsaw in Saw
I have read that Jigsaw is one of the most intelligent villains of our time. He is calculating and planned. Everything he does has a purpose even the attempted murders of dozens of people. He claims to only want to help you, but if you can't repent and be willing to give of yourself, you will die. There's nothing scarier than a villain who doesn't actually kill you but rather, makes you kill yourself. Saw is a movie that there is absolutely, positively NO WAY I would watch now. However, I know that Jigsaw has many, many fans.
Jack Torrance in The Shining
In one of Jack Nicholson's iconic roles, Jack is a father who takes his family to a hotel for the winter. He is suffering from a bad case of writer's block and it is driving him crazy. He tries to murder his family thinking that it will cure him. That's scary and crazy. I guess it would give him something to write about but it's not very practical or sane. "Here's Johnny!"

How did we do? Is this list of Halloween villains scary enough for you?
anonymous on September 06, 2013:
These villains are scary for sure. The Hostel movies were scary when you put thought into " what if this was real". But that doesn't fall under the villains category. I was just wonering if those movies put fear into anybody else?
noner on August 31, 2013:
You got Jigsaw on there, and he was the first to come to my mind.
Aminaguirre on July 26, 2013:
I love all the baddies on this list (my personal favorite is Michael Myers.... he has terrified me since I was 5!)
anonymous on September 16, 2012:
Yeah - you can say what you want about all the others, but Jigsaw scares the living s*** out of me. and not on the list? Esther from Orphan. She seriously freaked me out.
gypsyman27 lm on October 24, 2011:
The best villains for Halloween are the children, witness Damien from the omen. What could be more horrifying than a child with evil intent? I enjoyed this lens as it took me back to some of my favorite horror movies. See you around the galaxy...
moskit on May 04, 2011:
This is a great lens. Having seen all these movies and their sequels I have to say my favorite is still the old school 1980s Freddy Krueger. This lens has been Blessed!
Mortira on April 18, 2011:
Great list! Although, I kinda like Frank.
Dianne Loomos on April 18, 2011:
I've only seen a couple of these a long time ago. I know lots of people love horror movies but they are not my cup of tea. I'll stick with the Hallmark movies that you review!

I'm not into scary movies, though of course I did watch Psycho. I agree that the Norman Bates type villains have to be the worst - because they could live next door! Ha! Made you look (or maybe think a minute)!
GetSillyProduct on April 17, 2011:
good list, Krueger is king!
