Parade with dogs for a Howl-o-Ween time

Spooky-lite costume fun with dogs

Add some joy and put a little fun in your life and go to a local Halloween dog parade. These dog-loving Halloween parades are run across the country and are anything but scary.

Bark if you like Howl-o-Ween

Every year dogs around the world stare up at their owners and, using their deep, dark, pleading eyes, try to send the human the news of the local Halloween dog parade. Of course, the dogs are also excited about their choices of costumes. My Pug Charlie is obsessed with Halloween costumes, so much so that he's insisted we take a poll to help him pick his Halloween costume.

My dogs could make their own parade

Around here, with six dogs ranging from a 3.5 lb Mi-Ki to a terribly tall Geat Pyrenees, we can put on our own parade, but, of course, it's much more fun to have friends and folks who share your passion for dogs and for this spooky, fun time of year. We all need an excuse to dress up, right?

Three reasons to attend a Halloween dog parade - A fun Halloween event to share with your dog

  1. It's fun. If you have a dog, it's a great opportunity for you to do something your dog and share in an activity. If you don't, think of the fun you'll have people watching and laughing and enjoying as all the dogs in costume parade by.
  2. It's an opportunity to exercise--with your dog. Walking with your dog is a great active activity to do with your dog. Doing it in a Halloween dog parade really ups the ante for fun while you burn off a few calories--and it's good for your dog, too.
  3. It's a great way to meet new dog lovers--and for your dog to show off his or her's meet-and-greet charms.

Rose Jones on September 07, 2013:

I have got to check out these parades this year, I have seen them advertised around the area and never gone. Very nice lens, pinned to my Halloween board and linked to my own lens: https://hubpages.com/animals/bestdogHalloweencostu

I had not heard of dog parades before and I love dogs and would love to have another one in my life again....Yes, I would love to attend a dog parade for sure! My brother has a Pgu and Jack Russell mix and bought a costume for him but he just doesn't want to walk with it on though he looks so cute, maybe he thinks its just for having his picture taken. :)

BarbsSpot on April 20, 2013:

@Lensmaster...Haven't had a Halloween walk here, but it looks like a blast for everyone! Have been to some dog park fundraisers with Cee-Cee (left) where we live. We hope to get a off-leash park here soon. Go Dogs!

Wednesday-Elf from Savannah, Georgia on September 19, 2012:

No, because I don't have a dog. But dog owners (and their puppies) sure look like they are having fun in these Halloween parades!

Morgannafay on September 19, 2012:

If I had a doggie I would most certainly love to attend. I do think that a halloween doggie parade sounds like a wonderful new halloween tradition. The dogs are also so adorable in their costumes too! <3

dellgirl on September 18, 2012:

Attending a Halloween Dog Parade would be quite an interesting experience, different anyway. What a novel idea. Thanks for sharing this.

GiftsBonanza on September 12, 2012:

Such funny costumes! I don't think my dog would let me :)

aurora7 on September 01, 2012:

I love this lens. I like your digital dog parade.

Vikk Simmons (author) from Houston on September 01, 2012:

@MaggiePowell: Yeah, I have feeling a couple of my dogs might find him very tempting, too. :) Thanks for stopping by.

Vikk Simmons (author) from Houston on September 01, 2012:

@BarbRad: I think they usually do. Dogs are as social as we are so it's fun. Of course, you want to be sure your costumes don't inhibit them and that sort of thing but all in all it's a happy place for all.

Vikk Simmons (author) from Houston on September 01, 2012:

@ohcaroline: Thanks. They're great opportunities for dog owners to socialize with their pets.

Vikk Simmons (author) from Houston on September 01, 2012:

@OhMe: I know. I got into such a good mood doing this page and the Ghostbusters music had me rocking in my chair. :)

Nancy Tate Hellams from Pendleton, SC on September 01, 2012:

Actually, until I read this lens, I didn't know dog Halloween parades existed. Do the dogs enjoy them? I'm not a dog owner, so I just don't know.
