Box of Crayons

Great Group Halloween Costume for Sorority Sisters

Crayons, anyone? Here's a costume that has maximum impact when you go out in numbers - and a box of crayons makes a colorful group costume for a sorority Halloween party or you and your best girlfriends.

You can do the matching terry wraps with black felt applique if you're DIY gifted... or check out the genuine (licensed) Crayola crayon costumes from Rasta Imposta, available on Amazon. Kids crayon costumes are available as well as Crayola gear for adults, so you can do the Box of Crayons costume as a family, as well.

Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem - The Muppets Show Rock Band - Group Halloween Costume Idea

Electric Mayhem (The Muppet Show) Band group Halloweencostume

Electric Mayhem (The Muppet Show) Band group Halloweencostume

Muppets make for wonderful Halloween costumes, nothing but pure fun! But instead of a collection of the usual Kermit, Miss Piggy, and other individual Muppet stars, why not dress up your group as an actual group for Halloween?

Go out as Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem!

The legendary puppet rock band is made up of 5 core members - Dr Teeth, Animal, Floyd Pepper, Zoot, and the lovely Janice.

If you've got a bigger crowd to costume, you can bring back Lips, the silent trumpet player with big hair and a slick goatee who was briefly a band member - remember him? - or any of the great "guest performers" who have appeared with the Electric Mayhem on The Muppet Show over the years.

This is one groovy group Halloween costume idea that can work for any number of friends. Bonus points if any of you can actually play a musical instrument.

Roadies and Groupies

If you've got too many people to make do with just the band itself, or you've got some of those guys (you know the type) who aren't too keen on getting into a full-on costume, how about an uber-cool vintage-style "I'm With the Band" Muppets T-shirt for them?

Hobbits, Elves, and more Tolkien-inspired Halloween costumes are ideal for groups of LOTR movie buffs. Swashbuckling around Middle Earth? Yeah, it just never gets old.

Gnomes, Elves, or Snow White's Seven Dwarves - Costumes with Pointy Ears

It's all in the make-up and accessories, really, whether you're naughty or nice...

Tweak your elf-gnome-dwarf costumes to replicate the famous Disney characters, and you're the Seven Dwarves - with an agreeable friend in a Snow White costume, of course, and maybe the Evil Queen and Magic Mirror for good measure if you've got a large enough group to fit all the roles.

Kinda Like Gnomes, Only Much More Blue

I've seen the Smurfs group costume done with a whole lot less clothing and a whole lot more blue body paint, but if you plan on doing any up-close-and-personal dancing at that Halloween frolic, maybe better to minimize the amount of body makeup there is to smear off on your partner and opt instead, like these cheery revellers, for lightweight blue pullovers to cover a good part of the blue smurfy look. Also convenient for those of us who live where October 31st tends to be a bit chilly outdoors.

Now, which one of you gets to be Papa Smurf?

Evil Garden Gnomes! - Beard, Hat, Ears, and Eyebrows...

Personally, for a group Halloween costume, I love the Evil Garden Gnome idea... sort of a variation on the childhood nightmare theme of Scary Circus Clowns, you know?

Haunted Halloween Forest - Spooky Tree Costume x Group = Haunted Forest

Get a bunch of friends together in tree costume as a haunted forest, pair up with Adam & Eve to fill out their Garden of Eden scenario, or hang out with the characters from Lord of the Rings and call yourself Treebeard... the opportunities for a group of friends in tree costumes are unlimited on Halloween!

Garden of Eden Group Costumes - Adam & Eve ... and Friends

Get Your Fig Leaf On?

It takes a bit of derrring-do self-confidence to don one of those nudie suits (or perhaps a couple of pre-party cocktails, if that's your kind of courage), but one thing's for sure - everyone will notice you and your partner when you go out dressed (or should we say "undressed"?) as the original First Couple.

There are so many possible variations on the Adam & Eve costumes... and I'll leave that up to your own sense of modesty and occasion...

But the infamous 'first family" of the biblical Garden of Eden only counts for a couple of costumed characters in your Halloween gang, so what about costumes for the others in your group?

To turn this couple's costume into a group costume for three, four, or more, add the tempting Apple and the evil Snake first, then fill out your supporting cast with the Halloween costumes to evoke the whole garden scene. Surround the famous Tree (spooky tree?) with all manner of garden-inspired costumes from birds and bees and butterflies to flowers, fruit and vegetables - whatever garden-ish costumes your imagination may suggest.

Costumes For Vegetarians - A Tasty and Colorful Halloween Costume - Honor the Healthy Food Groups!

Everybody into an apple costume for Halloween, to show your allegiance to the plant-based life form.... or any other fruit and vegetables of your choice. After all, it's an important food group, as well as great colorful costumes.

Definitely, if you're going out trick-or-treating as a family, you can have a lot of fun dressing up the kiddies as healthy (cute) produce.

Bonus idea: One friend can dress up as the hard-working farmer in straw hat and overalls - or, perhaps, since this is Halloween and all, make it a zombie farmer. Zombie veggies, too? Maybe! Just add the appropriate gruesome grey-green makeup and a few splashes of red around the mouth.

Zombie Farmer & Garden Veggies

Bonus idea, good for any size of group: One friend or family member can dress up as the hard-working farmer in straw hat and overalls - or, perhaps, since this is Halloween and all, make it a zombie farmer. Zombie veggies, too? Maybe! Just add the appropriate gruesome grey-green makeup and a few splashes of red around the mouth. Everyone else gets to be the fruit or vegetable of their choice. Or a scarecrow. Or a crow. Maybe even a hungry rabbit, if you've got a spare bunny costume lying around - we're not asking!

The Chicken Family - Funny in Feathers! A Great Costume Idea for a Family Group

Check out the "chick" in the baby stroller!

Beekeeper and Bees - or possibly a Bee-Boys Dance Crew?

Borrow a beekeeper's suit from your friendly neighbourhood apiarist, or pick up an inexpensive pith helmet and bug-screen veil to pair with plain white coveralls and work gloves, ba-da-boom! You've got a beekeeper costume for Halloween! Now, once you've got your friends or family all geared up in buzz-worthy black-and-yellow striped bee costumes, the only trick will be to get your dance moves down...

Are you brave enough to wear a Full-Body Spandex Body Suit?

Superhero / Ninja / Zentai Costumes - Are you brave enough to wear a Full-Body Spandex Body Suit?

Are you wondering how one gets into this costume? No superpowers are required, never fear. The full bodysuit, which covers all of you (including your feet and hands) has a zipper in the back for access. It doesn't cover your head, you'll be glad to hear, so you can still consume food and beverages while in costume - there's a separate full-coverage see-through hood that you pull on over your head.

Tip: Gentlemen in particular will want to be careful to choose the right (ahem, modest and supportive) undergarments before slipping into these super-stretchy form-fitting body suits!

Angry Birds Halloween Masks and Costumes - Another Fun Group Costume "for the Birds"

For a group of Angry Birds game fans, what could be more fun than to dress up for Halloween as the characters from our favourite time-waster? You can make your own homemade costumes, if you're crafty and frugal, but that sounds like a lot of work to me...

Tetris Costumes

Got Cardboard Boxes?

If you and your friends are classic game geeks, and you've got access to a nice supply of carboard boxes, paint, and duct tape, the absolutely perfect prize-winning costume for you may be the timeless Tetris pieces.

This is a costume you can adapt for any number of participants, too, as there's no end to the number of Tetris pieces that just keep on coming when you're a ninja expert player. Endless fun, thinking up all the ways you can position yourself together in interlocking arrangements, too - there's a whole evening's entertainment right there!

Out of the Wild West

Cowboys, Barkeeper and Saloon Girls, Gunslingers and Outlaw, Sherriff and Posse... and the Horse you rode in on!

Western plaid shirt and blue jeans, boots, and a wide-brimmed hat - if you've got those items, you've got yourself a basic cowboy outfit.

If a few more friends just decide on the spur of the moment to go out with your group on Halloween, pulling together a last-minute cowboy costume is easy as roping a newborn calf - but this is one of those traditional Halloween costumes where you can pull out all the stops and make a great impression, with a little pre-planning of your group's costumes.

There are so many options, too, out on the style range between the Historical Re-enactment realistic costume and the modern urban Satuday-night cowboy on the line-dancing floor.

Take your inspiration from old western comics of the 1950s, from vintage TV like Bonanza and Gunsmoke, from the steely-eyed Clint Eastwood (Pale Rider, still awesome!) or from any of Hollywood's decades of western movies.

Ladies can't miss with a sexy western Miss Kitty costume or dress as queen of the rodeo, all tomboy athleticism in blue jeans and leather. Guys will have to fight it out (at High Noon, maybe?) to see who gets to dress as the mysterious stranger who rides into town to put the run to the rustlers and outlaws and crooked sherriff...

With a Wild West group costume theme, there is no limit to the number of people who can join in. After all, you've got a whole western town full of characters to choose from!

Gingerbread Man Group Costumes - Cookies always travel in a group!

Gingerbread Man Adult Group Costume Set Of 4

Gingerbread Man Adult Group Costume Set Of 4

This set of four Gingerbread Man costumes is a clear winner for re-use at Christmas pageants and parades, when you've done your Halloween trick-or-treating as a tasty treat indeed. Cookies are one sweet group costume!

And if your other cookie friends should happened get munched on October 31st, leaving you as one lonely cookie - no problem! Just change up the color of your buttons, draw on a big bushy pair of blue eyebrows, and go looking for a donkey and big green ogre. Who says you can't makeover your Halloween costume as the Gingerbread Man from the Shrek movies, and get in with that ensemble?

Halloween night is all about digging back into the spirit of childhood and using your imagination to play "make believe," after all, isn't it?
