The Ultimate in Gadgets - For every man who envied James Bond's Collection of Hi-Tech Tools

For more than Fifty years, ultimate high-tech gadgets (and sexy women) have been a mainstay of James Bond films. From the amazing cars to small but powerful cuff links and pens and sunglasses that are far more than they appear to be, sophisticated gadgetry is a popular feature of the spy genre and nobody did it better than Bond.

Bond’s gadgets were not just the envy of every man. Real-life spies were also fascinated with them, but technology was not advanced far enough to make most of the devices fact not fiction at the time most of the films were released. Perhaps one reason the most recent incarnation of James Bond (Daniel Craig) films place less emphasis on gadgetry than previous 007s is because technology is currently advancing exponentially faster than at any other time in history.

Bond films featured many of today's cutting edge technological advances decades before they became available. From car and cell phones to fingerprint identification, text messaging wristwatches, touchscreens, gps and microchip tracking, it seems that life does indeed often imitate art.

Fast forward to today, and spies aren’t the only ones with sophisticated tracking devices, biometric identification screening, hidden cameras, and the like.

High tech gadgets are now available for every man who ever wished he was Bond. James Bond.

Live the fantasy with these great items.

Above, left to right:

  • The Barska Biometric Fingerprint Wall Safe can easily be concealed behind furniture or a picture because it can be recessed into the wall. In the spirit of James Bond, it features a technologically advanced biometric fingerprint identification system. In addition to sophisticated fingerprint recognition, this safe is secured by two motorized steel deadbolt locks. Safe is black steel with pre-drilled mounting holes and two removable shelves.
  • The Spy Pen does more than just write. Records full-color video with audio (microphone located under pen clip) in AVI video format at the push of a button. Features a CMOS camera lens with a 45 degree viewing angle. Plays back in 720 x 480 resolution on your computer or mobile device via USB connection.
  • The Virtual Laser Projection Keyboard connects via Bluetooth® or USB and is compatible with Apple®, Android™, and other smartphones, tablets and devices (see video). Projects a full size 78-key keyboard onto any flat service. Includes a mouse mode for track pad style capabilities.

Nostalgic Tech: The Best of Bond

From the comparatively mundane geiger counter and cyanide cigarettes in the first Bond Film (Dr. No, 1962) and the more imaginative jetpack Sean Connery dons in Thunderball (1965) to the latest incarnation of James Bond's wristwatch in 2015's Spectre starring Daniel Craig (no, we won't give away what this one does in case you haven't seen the film yet), gadgets have played a major role in the 007 series.

Sometimes prescient like the 1971 fingerprint scanner, sometimes frightfully contemporary like the Spectre membership ring (compare SPECTRE's Nine Eyes to the all-too-real Five Eyes Intelligence Alliance), the fascination with James Bond's generation-spanning gadgetry is boundless.

The Attraction of Cutting-Edge High-Tech Gadgets

Let's face it, men. Technology can be addictive. Once you become interested in techno-toys, it is difficult to stop even if you want to. The latest iPhone, highest resolution screen, next generation video game, or remote-controlled drone is impossible to resist.

Scroll to Continue

Keeping up with the latest techno trend is more than a status symbol. It is part of your identity -- who you are and who you want to be. It separates the men from the boys, the alpha male from the rest of the pack. Funny how the further we get from the real to the virtual, the more we seem to revert to the primal in many ways.

Do you remember playing video games as a kid? Do you remember how impossible it was to stop before you got to the next level? And the one after that? Even if your mom was calling you for dinner and you were hungy, you were hungrier to succeed in your virtual world. Even your favorite food and threats of revoked privileges could not tear you away.

Fast forward ten or twenty years: Now you anxiously await the latest generation of your tablet, phone, or wearable tech, scouring ezines and tech guru blogs for hints about what the next version of your tablet, phone, or wearable tech will feature. You read the reviews and check You Tube several times a day for current unboxing videos, and, if you can manage to delay gratification an extra day or week or even month, comparison shop (online, of course) until you find the best deal. The cutting-edge is addictive and there is no twelve step program that I know of for the gadget obsessed - a fact that most of us are glad to know.

"Big Boys" And Their Toys: Why Do Men Love Gadgets?

Men have a virtual love affair with gadgets. From techno toys to plasma screen tvs, men can't seem to get enough gadgetry. Why?

Could it be that since that blue blanket is wrapped around a newborn male, our culture treats boys differently than girls?

Aside from still being introduced to different behavioral expectations, little boys are usually given toys like remote control cars, video games, kid-sized tools, and similar items that encourage competition and action, while most girls' toys encourage nurturing and cooperation. Whatever your opinion about that, and although more girls are becoming interested in gadgets, the domain is still overwhelmingly male.

The fact is, gadgets make men feel like a kid again. The latest gadget makes them feel as engrossed and empowered as when they unwrapped their first "power" toy -- not to mention that it is fun! The latest gadgetry increases a man's status among his peers and has the added bonus (think shiny new sportscar or peacock tail) of increasing his (perceived?) attraction to women.

Gadgets can also have a practical side. That is, some gadgets (such as power tools) enable a man to do something he might not otherwise be able to do. Cutting down trees, building with wood (from a birdhouse to a deck or a barn) no longer require the physical strength that doing such things by hand with manual tools did. Power saws, nail guns, and the like have largely taken muscle and agility out of the picture. What might have been impossible for a man to do in the past, become far easier with today's technology.
