Here's another way to Light up your Sweater
Add more Battery-operated Lights...
The sweater above sold for $41.
The best attention grabbing Christmas Sweaters use cordless light up ornaments or battery operated string lights to animate unique Chirstmas Sweater creations.
Wait... Did I say glowing Ornaments ~or~ String lights? I meant... both.
Even better use humongously large lighted ornaments like above and then add tons of glowing multi-colored lights to really kick it up a notch.
By the way.... Christmas Sweaters have gotten a bad rap...
... in recent years as being Ugly. With our help we can make some even more so than others. But you know what? We still buy them so we can make them really first class...

For a great start to your Christmas Sweater project, start with a seasonal plush stuffed animal, holiday animal pillow, or wall hanging. Then decorate around your holiday themed critter to really set it off well. Maybe I should have said "badly" instead of "well".

Add some Soft and Fluffy Glamor
Plastic Beads add Texture and Shine
Trim Ideas to add to your Ugly Christmas Sweater Project
Since Christmas Sweaters are usually worn only once a year, washing may not be required so embellishing can include apparel trims as well as tree decorations and wrapping elements.
Here are few ideas to get started:
Pom Pom trim has lost favor in current fashion, but is an awesome add on for your Ugly Christmas fashion choices. It adds color and movement to your creation.
Tinsel Garland made for Christmas Tree decorating adds sparkle
Feather or Fuzzy Boas add a fluffy texture
Lace or Ribbon can add glitz
Plastic Beaded Trim for Gift wrapping adds shine and texture
What else can be added? As you can see your options are unlimited so anything can be added to your apparel.
Do you wear Christmas Sweaters? Won't you share why or why not?

Once upon a time this page had a 2-sided debate. The following comments were left there, and they were much appreciated and lots of good-humored fun, so I brought them back.
Yes, and here's why...
squid-pinkchic18: Me and my hubby made our own ugly sweaters this year for our Christmas party and they were a hilarious hit. Always a fun time!
Barkely: I had one, but finally had to throw it out because it was worn out. I really miss that old sweater, it was my favorite, I may have to find it a spectacularly ugly replacement:-)
Virginia Allain: I have a black sweater vest with red poinsettias on it in bugle beads. Some may lump it in the too-much-decoration category but I like it. Actually I get a lot of compliments when I wear it, so people notice it.
No, and here's why...
mel-kav: because they're ugly! :)
SofiaMann: Impossible. In Chile we celebrate Christmas in summer. One of my dreams is to hold a Christmas with snow. It is clear that this is not going to be here.
Too warm in your area for a Sweater? How about a Ugly Christmas Vest?
This vest appears to be a vintage original and rightly sold for $46 on eBay! I wonder if the Chilean citizen who commented above could wear something like this instead?
Eeeeh, maybe not.
Are you a Christmas Dog Lover? Someone was...
Sold for $39.99.
Notice the 80's or 90's Bill Cosby style sweater used for the basis of this design? There are a lot of these vintage sweaters available in thrift stores and they are a great inspiration to kick start the design of your unique, one of a kind, Ugly Christmas Sweater. Oh, and notice the use of the 3D stuffed animal like the plush animal reindeer as mentioned before?
Over the Top, Attractive, yet Silly, FooFoo Christmas Sweater - Just needs to sing to capture all the possibilities
Sold for $49.99 on eBay
Lights, Boas, and Tinsel Garland, and not one, but two, stuffed Santas added for that oh so understated glamor. This style is appropriately named "Foo Foo" Christmas Sweater fashion. I think this creation has that soft lovely and ethereal lit appearance. Could it be decorated with battery operated seed lights? I saw tons of them at the Dollar store the other day.

Ho ho ho! Do you have a Ugly Christmas story? Anyone can leave a comment, so please do.
Beth Webster-Duerr (author) from Henrietta, New York on December 27, 2018:
You are totally right about the uglier the better when it comes to Christmas sweaters. The most decorated usually win the biggest contest prizes.
I haven't had a kids Christmas sweater decorating session yet, but it does indeed sound like fun.
Thanks for stopping by.
Poppy from Enoshima, Japan on December 20, 2018:
This is a great guide on making hideous Christmas sweaters. The uglier the better, am I right? It would be a fun Christmas project to enjoy with the children as well.
mel-kav on November 04, 2013:
What a great idea for a lens - I love it! I still wonder why they make these sweaters though - I'm thinking they make them just for a conversation piece. Although, ugly Christmas sweater parties are fun. I admit, I've been to a couple of them. However, I just couldn't bring myself to wear the ugliest sweater.

@myspace9: Sorry, liked but no blessing since I'm not an Angel. :)
myspace9 on January 07, 2013:
Thank you so much for squidliking one of my lenses and blessing it.
squid-pinkchic18 on December 28, 2012:
So fun! Loved reading this lens :)
Barkely on December 27, 2010:
Fabulous idea! Getting a head start for next year's Christmas season? :-)

Very entertaining. Nice lens.

I was thinking to make very similar lens.... Ha ha ha... Nice lens with some very ugly sweaters...
