Planning a Valentines Day Party

Having a Valentine’s Day party? Is it time to get organized and decide what supplies you need to purchase?

Are you going to have a theme party? A party for singles or for couples—or both?

Whatever type of party you have, there are some basic things to decide. You need at least a few Valentine’s Day decorations to set the tone. Fortunately, they don't have to be lavish or expensive.

What kind of food or snacks will you serve? What will you and your guests do all evening?

Is it enough to mingle or do you want to have some games or activities planned? Finally, party favors, however small, are a nice gesture for your guests.

Valentine's Day Decorations

The simplest—and cheapest—items you can decorate with to make your place festive are streamers and balloons. Mix or match colors of red, white, and pink. You can even get heart-shaped balloons to go with the holiday.

Another easy decoration is cut-out hearts. To go really cheap, cut out your own using red or pink construction paper. To make it easy on yourself and perhaps get some more intricate decorations such as Cupid and his arrows, you can purchase these without spending too much.

Now that you’ve decked out the house, focus on the tableware. Think about what you’ll need to serve your snacks and drinks. You will need plates, cups, and napkins at the very least. If all your foods aren’t finger foods, you’ll also need to get some plastic forks or spoons.

For a festive table, start with a red or white tablecloth, adding your decorative tableware. You can also purchase a centerpiece of flowers to set it all off.

Valentine Party Favors

Party favors give your guests something to take with them. Favors can be as simple as a bag of candy. Going a step further, you can order personalized candy bars—or even lollipops for each guest. A simple silk rose is a nice gesture, too.

Valentine's Day Food

Now that you have your tableware, how are you going to fill it? You can always go with a basic party appetizer menu that will work for any gathering, or you might want to be more creative and go for some valentine-themed appetizers. With a heart-shaped baking pan, you can make anything you want in the shape of a heart.

At the least, you can set out a few heart-shaped foods, such as sugar cookies with red frosting or a heart-shaped cake. Just buy some sugar cookie dough, follow the directions, and after they cool from the oven, add red or pink frosting on top. You can do the same with a cake or brownie mix.

For some simple fun, fill clear bowls of conversation hearts for your guests to read and snack on.

Provide a simple punch with a combination of strawberry and ginger ale. Here are some additional punch ideas.

Valentine's Day Games and Activities

Depending on your guest list, you may or may not want to have some planned activities. Your particular group may be great at mixing and mingling. However, throwing in some fun activities could serve to get the party started off right or rev up a party when there’s a lull.

You can play silly games like Bingo and word searches where winners win small prizes. For ladies’ only parties, you might watch a sappy romantic movie to make fun of. Cyndi--The appetizer recipes are some tried and true ones that I have made over the years. They are always popular. I think it would be fun to visit you way off in the woods! :-)

Fun ideas and I have to check out the "easy appetizer recipes" link - I'm always wondering what the heck to make when I have people over because, let's face it, I don't have people over very often - I live far, far away in the woods, through the mountains and over the hills. Haha.

vibesites--I'm glad you think so! Party on! :-)

I think this is really good, it can be a way for a group of friends who are unattached at this moment, to celebrate Valentine's Day if they mind it at all. Instead of scowling over not having a date or a relationship, why not create a great V-Day party? Invite your equally single friends... Fantastic idea. :)

Up, useful and shared. :)
