Top 7 Free Gift Certificate Template Websites

Are you looking to create a free gift certificate for your business or perhaps to giveaway to friends or family during a special occasion? You’ve come to the right place, in this article we will look at the top 7 best free gift certificate websites that you can use to make the perfect certificate for your needs.

There are many programs and websites you can use to make certificates, but sometimes the problem is the significant cost and knowledge required to get started. For example, if you wanted to make a design from scratch, you will need an expensive graphic design program such as Adobe Photoshop, you may also need to buy stock photography or specific images. Furthermore you will need to know how to use the program or even pay someone to make the design for you. Now sometimes, this is what is required, especially if you have a high budget and want the best artwork possible. But if you are doing this for a small business or personal use, it doesn’t make sense to spend hundreds of dollars to design a couple of gift certificates. By using resources and websites available for free you could still design an amazing gift certificate, all it takes is just a little bit of your time.

#1 GiftTemplate.com

There are no watermarks on the templates, and creating the gift certificates is very simple and easy.

The nice thing is that you can modify many different parts of the certificate, such as colors and images. However please be aware that some of the certificates images are paid, so you will need to find free replacements. There also appear to be restrictions on how you can use their free resources, so you may want to do further research. One more annoyances is that you will need to create an account or use your facebook login information before you can edit their gift certificates.

#4 OpenOffice Templates

OpenOffice templates offers quite a few simple gift certificates that can be edited in a word processor. You can use Microsoft Office, or OpenOffice/LibreOffice (Free Alternatives) to make edits to your gift certificate.

The editor offers some nice options such as changing colors and text. However it is also very small in size and hard to see what you are editing. The designs are perhaps a little outdated, but the simplicity is nice and they offer PDF or PNG image downloads of the gift certificate.

#7 Vertex42

Vertex42 offers a small selection of gift certificates, in particular Christmas, Birthday and Blank Gift Certificate. They are very simply designed, but do require Microsoft Office to edit. You download the DOCX file and edit the certificate on your computer. There are 3 gift certificates per a printed page.

Here is a quick list of free software that you can use for further editing, in case you want to add a custom logo or graphic to some of the gift certificates after you obtain them from the websites listed, or if you need a word processor for some of the editing.

  • GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) - A very complex free alternative to Adobe Photoshop, can be hard to use but is extremely powerful in editing images.
  • Microsoft Paint - A simple image editing program available on most Windows machines, your probably have it already or can obtain it from Microsoft Store for free.
  • OpenOffice or LibreOffice - Free alternatives to Microsoft Office in case you don't have a word processor already, might be useful to edit some of the templates.

There are many different types of gift certificates you can find online, which are completely free, but you also have to be aware of the limitations. Some websites might have specific restrictions on how many times you can use a gift certificate or for what purpose. Other times you may still need a word processor such as Microsoft Office to modify the certificate. So in certain cases you just need to be aware of these limitations and find the website and template that fits your needs.

Thanks for the comment Mary. Do you mean the Amazon eGift Cards with customized messages? They are very cool gifts, but are limited to the Amazon website. The difference is that if you own any type of small business, you can make a custom gift certificate (or even a discount gift certificate coupon) that you can sell or giveaway to customers. Specific to your own business. Or do you mean actually buying pre-made gift certificates from Amazon which you fillout by hand? I think they can be quite pricey, and easier to make yourself and print at home.

You can also make a certificate for personal use and give it as a gift. It's a good alternative to giving cash, a little bit more thoughtful and official perhaps. For example you can include an activity as part of the value for the certificate, the person would redeem it on a day of their choosing and give it to you and you would cover the costs of the activity. Like going to dinner or to a future event. You can get pretty creative with way that they can be used, as invites, as future gifts (if the product or service is not available or you don't have the money to get it for the moment).
