The John Blue House

The John Blue house was built in the early 1890s by John Blue, Sr. Built entirely of heart of pine lumber harvested from the Blue property, located in Laurinburg NC. John Blue's  house has many intricate details that amaze hundreds of tourists during tours each year. All of the houses have been restored to their original sate.  Many talented carpenters keep these homes in tip top shape due to the traffic during tours and the Yearly October John Blue Festival.  Steamboat Gothic architecture, double circular porches, nine fireplaces, and stained glass elements over the twelve outside doors are just some of the great artwork displayed in the homes

Also featured on the property is fully functional 100% mule powered cotton gin. This building draws many people during the festival to see how cotton was once milled and processed. It still runs today by mule.

Mr. Blue was a very prominent businessman, farmer and inventor. Mr. Blue invented the first cotton stalk cutter, the John Blue cotton planter and a fertilizer distributor.

The John Blue Festival

The John Blue Festival has been a yearly tradition in Laurinburg for many years.  The festival includes tours of the John Blue Houses, Vendors selling homade items such as stained glass, quilts, Mobiles, Carved Wood and more.

There are lots of activities for children as well.  A train ride through the property shows all the historic attributes such as the Mule runned Cotton Gin.  It is stilll operable today.  Face painting is always a treat for the kids as well as the animals.

Some people dress like it was back in the day that Mr. Blues cotton gin was running successfully.  It has become a tradition in our town and hopefully will continue, getting better every year.

It was so fun, and i didn't want to wash it off!! But it was safe, etc.,, and she started crying when the mule looked at her becuase he was so big and it started to run so i had to wash it before we left!! The guy who did it told Aaliyah to lay back and close her eyes and she did, he was wonderful with kids, I bet be made several grand that day! It was only five dollars but the line was wrapped arount the whole festival, but mostly adults, lol
