Beard and Mustache Care!
Every year I start growing my beard, and every year I complain about it! But as Christmas gets closer and the weather gets colder, I remember why I have been growing my beard for all these months. And the answer is: I love to play Santa Claus for Christmas! Just to let people know, I also do it to make holiday cash to help make my two teen daughters' holidays brighter.
So every year I grow my beard to be a very realistic Santa. I tried to be a fake-beard Santa but found it very hot and well, fake. It got stuck in my mouth when I tried to perform my Santa speech or sing or tell "T'was The Night Before Christmas".
So, I have decided to bite the bullet and grow my beard every year to be the most realistic Santa that I can be. Starting in May, the beard starts to sprout and I put the razor away. It doesn't take long for people to start to comment about how much I look like Santa.
This is fun, but also can become a little bit weird in the summer. A lot of people who come to my office ask for me by saying "Is Santa here? Where is Santa? Santa helped me last time." Which I don't mind at all, since my regular job consists of trying to help people get funds for paying home heating bills. It goes with the Santa theme.
Well, let me tell you, it is hard to get a date when you look like Santa. I am 48 years old, but when I grow out the beard I appear to be much older. Anyway, why would I go out with someone who doesn't love Santa! My friends always ask if it's worth it to grow that beard all summer for just a little extra cash. And I say absolutely. The reason I say that is because I also do it to see all the kids' joy and happiness when Santa walks in. I take pride in being a good Santa and I always try to make sure I have spoken to all of the children and that everyone that wants a picture with Santa gets one.
Along with the fun and profit of being Santa, the great people I meet is also a blessing. I have met the lowest income people to some of the highest income people and found the joy of Christmas in almost all of them. No one is ever mean to Santa. No one can take the smile off their faces when I walk into a room with a hardy "Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas!" Depending on the size of the gathering, it can be very crazy! But very fulfilling and makes me feel very proud to wear the red suit.
Well, it is now September, the beard is getting thick and bushy and white. I know my time as a mere mortal is coming to an end. Soon I will be making my list of homes and parties to visit. I will check it twice for accuracy, hoping all the children have not been too naughty and very nice. One of the things I always say to the children as they get off of my lap and are finished telling me their Christmas wishes is to remember to be nice to their friends and family and to everyone else, too! I think this year I will have my best beard ever. The only thing I have left to do before the holidays really get going is decide what my Halloween costume is going to be!
