Does Santa Claus Prefer Northern Climes or Sunny Spain for a Vacation?

I live in Houston and have worked as a nurse. I have a lifelong passion for traveling, nature, and photography (preferably all together!).

Santa is making a list and keeping track of good little boys and girls.

Santa is making a list and keeping track of good little boys and girls.

Vacation Time

Where do Santa and Mrs. Claus spend their holidays? Do you think they like to relax in Lapland, the North Pole or somewhere like sunny Spain? Let's face it. Of all people on earth, after a busy night of delivering all of those many gifts to good little girls and boys worldwide, Santa Claus needs a vacation!

Sure he has all of those elves helping him make and assemble just the perfect toys and other requested goodies throughout the year.

And, of course, we cannot forget his faithful reindeer who haul that sleigh through the sky with a seemingly endless supply of toys to be delivered precisely on time for Christmas celebrations around the globe.

Think of the training that goes into keeping those reindeer in tip-top condition! That in itself would be a full-time job for most people. But Santa Claus handles that with aplomb and more!

Santa's reindeer are in shape for that annual journey.

Santa's reindeer are in shape for that annual journey.

Red Santa Suits

Mrs. Claus works during the year to maintain her husband's wardrobe keeping his distinctive red suit in tip-top condition for that whirlwind night of toy and gift deliveries. She is also in charge of distributing additional look-alike red suits worldwide.

Why? Isn't that obvious? Santa Claus needs extra suits that look just like his for all of those Christmas Santa's that help him take orders in stores and other places where little boys and girls gather during that busy holiday season of Christmas shopping.

Store Santa will pass along the child's wishes to the real Santa Claus.

Store Santa will pass along the child's wishes to the real Santa Claus.

A Top Secret Arrangement!

Special arrangements occur to collect those whispered desires from the store Santas and get them back to the one and only real Santa Claus who can fill those orders. How those arrangements happen remains top secret!

Finland or Suomi means the same thing in the Finnish language. All of this area of Finland and more is a portion of Lapland where many people worldwide think Santa Claus or Father Christmas lives and works during the year.

Does he and Mrs. Claus call Lapland home? Like the top-secret arrangements made with those store Santas, his workshop and home locations are also secrets.

Droves of sightseers would no doubt flood the location of Santa's workshop all year long if they knew the whereabouts, and his vital work would never get done.

The North Pole

I think that Santa's home is the North Pole. As children, we always addressed our letters to Santa at the North Pole, and it seemed to work. On the night of Christmas Eve, my parents always put out a plate of homemade Christmas cookies and a glass of milk, and by morning there were just some cookie crumbs left, and the milk glass was empty. Presents had been left under the tree. Try as hard as my younger brothers and I did to stay awake and listen for Santa Claus, we always seemed to be asleep when he came and made his deliveries.

If we had written to Santa with an address in Lapland, do you think he would have gotten our requests? I don't see how unless he has a post office box there to collect letters on that side of the world. I suppose that is possible!

Santa's reindeer could run a shuttle service during the year collecting mail from different post office boxes leading to that all-important Christmas delivery schedule. It might even keep them in shape during the year for that exhausting worldwide run done in so short a time frame!

It would be like going to the gym to keep their bodies toned, as I am sure that Santa also has to do. After all, Santa must eat a vast amount of cookies if he eats not only ours but many other people's offerings as well.

Where To Spend Their Holidays?

After a grueling night of deliveries following a busy year of supervising the elves and also keeping the reindeer in good shape for their important one-night worldwide delivery schedule, perhaps Santa merely wants to crawl into his pajamas and robe and settle down with Mrs. Claus in front of a roaring fire with a steaming cup of hot chocolate and some cookies in his home. Who could blame him?

Be it Lapland or the North Pole, it really wouldn't matter. Both places are cold much of the year, so that roaring fire and a little time off might be just "what the doctor ordered" by way of relaxation.

I think Santa and Mrs. Claus take their holidays, not in Lapland or the North Pole, but somewhere in the sunny climate and beautiful rolling countryside of Spain. They would probably like to shed those heavy coats and lay on the beaches catching some brilliant rays of the sun and watching the surf roll in while they catch up on some reading.

Be on the lookout for an older gentleman with a white beard and a generous laugh accompanied by an older pleasant looking lady. It just might be them!

Which of these places would Santa and Mrs. Claus prefer for a vacation?

If you choose somewhere else, please let me know where you think they might be vacationing in the comment section below. Thanks!

What a cleverly written tale. Personally since we live in the Southern part of the U.S., I think Santa Claus is coming to town.

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on July 22, 2018:

Hi Patricia,

Obviously I had some fun with this. This would be the time of year for Santa and Mrs. Claus to be getting some rest and relaxation before gearing up for the end of year holiday deliveries. Ha Ha!

Patricia Scott from North Central Florida on July 21, 2018:

This is TOO cute!!! What fun it is to speculate on their vacation plans. I certainly hope they are getting some R & R time as before you know it delivery time will be here. Enjoyed this so much. Angels on the

Hi Au fait,

This was just a lighthearted post about where Santa might wish to vacation after his delivery of Christmas presents world wide has been accomplished for the year. Ha! Thanks for the pin. Enjoy this Christmas season!

C E Clark from North Texas on November 23, 2013:

Perfect article for this time of year. Thanksgiving is just days away and then Christmas will be in full swing, though it seems like it already is when it comes to advertising.

Most western Europeans go to Spain on holiday don't they? I understand the expense is less compared with other places -- but maybe Santa gets a discount.

Voted up, interesting and awesome. Pinned to my "Christmas II" board, and will share.

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on November 19, 2012:

Hi Mary,

I agree with you. After all of those snowy and cold days, am sure that Santa & Mrs. Claus would like a warm vacation spot. Ha! I imagine that many letters are being mailed to Santa about now! Glad to hear that you enjoyed this hub. Appreciate your comment and the share.

Mary Hyatt from Florida on November 18, 2012:

Can you believe it will be Christmas soon, and Santa will be making his way to visit all the good little boys and girls??

I really think Mr. and Mrs. Claus should go to a warm climate. I would think they would get tired of being cold in the North Pole.

This was a fun Hub to read. I enjoyed the videos, too.

Voted UP, etc. and shared.

Hi Kiara Dearest,

Merry Christmas to you too! Hmmm...Perhaps you are related to the Jolly old fellow and are joining them on a family vacation? :))

Kiara Dearest on December 03, 2011:

Peggy W,

Gotcha! That's why I am also on vacation 2 weeks later for Christmas. Peggy W, Merry Christmas!

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on December 01, 2011:

Hello Kiara Dearest,

Hopefully Santa is not bogged down with economic concerns. He just wants to make good girls and good boys happy once a year with his gifts. He deserves a good vacation after his efforts. Don't you agree? :))

Thanks for your comment.

Kiara Dearest on December 01, 2011:

I guess Santa Claus should visit the States to resolve recession. Phew! Good hub btw. Thanks.

Hi Prasetio,

Haha! Ok...I also believe Santa Claus lives in the North Pole...but where does he take his holidays? Do you vote for sunny Spain or elsewhere? :-)

Santa Claus is the spirit of Christmas, start form kids until adult always love the kindness of Santa Claus. I do believe that Santa's home in North Pole based on the story I've ever knew before. Hohohohohoho.....I give Vote up to this hub. God bless you!

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on November 10, 2010:

Hi Cheryl,

Hahaha! Glad that you caught the humor in this hub about holidays for Santa Claus. Did you vote for Lapland, the North Pole, Sunny Spain or elsewhere as a holiday location?

Cheryl on November 10, 2010:

Another cute and hilarious hub. The videos are really cute.

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on November 10, 2010:

Hello Billy,

Since the reindeer come from Lapland, perhaps that is the real home of Santa Claus? I still think it is the North Pole! Haha! So where does Santa vacation? Spain...or did you choose some other great spot?

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on November 10, 2010:

Hello daydreamer13,

Happy to hear that you enjoyed this hub regarding where Santa Claus and his helpful wife may wish to spend their well deserved holidays. Did you vote for sunny Spain? Just curious.

billyaustindillon on November 10, 2010:

love it - Lapland is where many Scandis and Baltics put them at - it is home of the Reindeer :)

daydreamer13 on November 09, 2010:

Very cute. Nice writing.

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on November 09, 2010:

Greetings Hello, hello,

Only too happy to mention your hub about Lapland as it adds some good background depth to just where Santa Claus might be living when he is not on holiday. Ha! Seriously, I enjoy your hubs and it was my pleasure.

Hello, hello, from London, UK on November 09, 2010:

Oh, Peggy, such a wonderful and cutely written story. Of course, he is at the North Pole. The tour operators haven't got any idea of geography. I T - I S - T H E - N O R T H - P O L E !!!!!!!

It was so sweet and kind of you to mention my hub. Thank you. Oh you are kind.

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on November 08, 2010:

Hello lyjo,

Where do you think Santa and Mrs. Claus would like to take a vacation? I thought that sunny Spain would be a perfect place. Of course...since Santa sees the entire world he might have some other great destinations in place! Haha! Glad you enjoyed this! I'm still having fun with each comment.

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on November 08, 2010:

Hello agusfanani,

Yes, Santa Claus definitely always ate the cookies and drank that glass of milk. We saw the leftover crumbs as evidence each morning! It was always a big deal determining which of my mother's homemade cookies should be left out for him to enjoy. Generally we figured 3 or 4 cookies would be all the time that he could spare before once again going out to deliver toys to good girls and good boys. Haha!

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on November 08, 2010:

Hello Happyboomernurse,

Thought that I would have a little fun with thinking about Santa Claus and where he and Mrs. Claus would like spending their holiday. Like you, I think that sunny Spain would be a great place. Haha!

lyjo on November 08, 2010:

Such an uplifting glorious it! Sunny Spain...? And what a special person you are to remember Mr.& Mrs. Claus, and how exhausting it is for them...of course they would need a vacation...I'm ashamed I never thought of that! Voted up & everything else...Take really good care!

agusfanani from Indonesia on November 07, 2010:

It's a very interesting story. I wonder what happened to the cake and a glass of milk, did Santa really drink them ?

Gail Sobotkin from South Carolina on November 07, 2010:

Hi Peggy,

Loved the lightness and humor in this hub and the videos were cool. Particularly liked the thought of Santa and Mrs. Claus vacationing in sunny Spain. You have a terrific imagination and I enjoyed this hub.

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on November 07, 2010:

Thanks Pamela,

I had fun with this Santa Claus hub and where he lives. Did you vote? What is it? Lapland, North Pole or do you think he vacations in Sunny Spain? Thanks for the comment.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on November 07, 2010:

Peggy, This is an adorable hub. I think children might think of these things and wonder. Very cute.

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on November 07, 2010:

Hi Micky,

So you think of Santa as a celestial being. Not far off the mark as he DOES spend time with his reindeer up there in the sky. As to skiers spotting him...I suppose depending upon how high in the sky Santa Claus and his reindeer are flying and how high up the mountain the skiers are ready to start their downhill adventure...this is more than possible.

Besides skiers, I am sure airplane pilots and perhaps astronauts have also spotted them at times? Is it possible that some UFO sightngs were really just a momentary glimpse of Santa Claus and his sleigh? Perhaps it is just the angle of assent that catches the light and glows?

Did you vote? Was it Lapland, the North Pole, Sunny Spain or elsewhere that Santa Claus takes his holidays? Maybe he even likes to ride a bicycle! Are there any jolly old fat men on your bike rides Micky???

Peggy Woods (author) from Houston, Texas on November 07, 2010:

Hi dahoglund,

Good point! Personally I think that Santa Claus, being the good guy that he is, would also give the reindeer a vacation holiday so he probably leaves them to roam about in the North Pole (or is it Lapland?) to frisk about and do whatever they choose as a favorite pass-time. Santa and Mrs. Claus probably fly commercial disguised as best they can and head south to some sunny climate. My bet is still on Spain. So you think the Caribbean and a cruise? I'll have to ask friends of mine who like cruising to keep an eye out and see if they can be spotted among the other passengers. Haha!

Micky Dee on November 07, 2010:

I think of Santa as a celestial being,

While many have spied this being skiing!

Don A. Hoglund from Wisconsin Rapids on November 07, 2010:

Up and funny.I never gave this question much thought. Does Santa travel by reindeer sled to his vacation spot or does he fly commercial? Maybe a caribean cruise would suit the need to relax.
