Interesting Things About the Month of June

Margaret Minnicks has been an online writer for many years. She writes articles that are interesting to her readers.

The Month of June

June is the sixth month of the year in both the Julian and Gregorian calendars. The month is named after the Roman goddess Juno, the goddess of marriage and the wife of the supreme deity Jupiter. That is perhaps the reason June is popular for weddings.

June is one of four months with 30 days. The others three are April, September, and November. The early Roman calendar had 29 days in June. It was Julius Caesar, who added the additional day.

Even though it appears to be summer earlier, summer really doesn't start until June 21. This is also the month with the longest daylight hours of the year.

June Is a Welcomed Month

People are glad to see June roll around. There are graduations, and school children begin their summer break. Families go to the beach and other places on vacation. There are weddings to attend as well as cookouts and many other summer festivities.

Days to Celebrate in June

Graduations and weddings could happen on any date in June. However, there are just three days that are highlighted on the same date every year.

  • Flag Day is always on June 14.
  • Father's Day is always on the third Sunday in June.
  • Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19 every year.

The most common colors of roses are red, white and pink. Red roses symbolize love. White symbolizes friendship and pink represents admiration.

The Honeysuckle

The honeysuckle is the other June flower. It traditionally stands for bonds of devotion, love, fidelity, and generosity.

The pearl symbolizes purity of heart and faith, as well as growth and transformation through difficult circumstances. It represents purity, innocence, and imagination. Each color has a different meaning:

  • White represents beauty, purity, and new beginnings.

Leland, thanks for your kind comments about my writing. I think my secret is to write articles the way I like to read them. If I don't like what I write, I don't expect others to like it either.

Leland Johnson from Midland MI on May 29, 2018:

Margaret- You are an excellent writer. You included information that I found very interesting, but doubt that I would've thought to add it had I written the article. you've inspired me to really think about what makes a subject interesting. I didn't expect to find so many gems when I began reading. Glad I did. Great job!

I didn't know there are plenty of famous personalities born in this month.

I think my dad's special month is really June. Apart from father's day celebration, it's also his birth month. He was born on June 3, 1953. Actually, that's few more days to go!
