Zumba fundraisers are a fun and unique way to raise funds for your organization.

Zumba fundraisers are a fun and unique way to raise funds for your organization.

What's Zumba?

Zumba is a fun and exciting Latin-inspired fitness dance movement. People all across the world love Zumba! Whether you enjoy it as a serious workout or as just a fun way to get moving, Zumba is for everyone.

A Unique Fundraising Event

Zumba fundraising events are winning rave reviews from participants and the supported organizations alike.

Whether you're a Zumba instructor looking for ways to give back to a cause that's important to you, or a non-profit group or team looking for new fundraising ideas, planning a Zumba fundraiser may be the perfect solution.

Compared to other fundraising events, these fundraisers can be quite easy and fun to organize.

How Does the Fundraiser Work?

The basic premise of a Zumba fundraiser is a group class (or "party," as it is sometimes called) with money raised going to support a particular cause, charity, or organization. Participants pay money to participate in the event, which can last for an hour, or longer in the case of a Zumbathon.

Zumba Fitness's official cause is breast cancer, with thousands of Party-in-Pink fundraising events held to date by various instructors and clubs to support the Susan G. Komen For the Cure. However, it is possible to hold a Zumba fundraiser to support virtually any charity, group, or cause.

Benefits of a Zumba Fundraiser

There are many reasons to hold this kind of fundraising event, including:

  • it's a unique and fun fundraising idea
  • helps people get active while having fun and supporting a good cause
  • relatively easy fundraising event to run
  • low overhead for a fundraising event
  • great way to introduce people to Zumba fitness
  • can help improve participants' self-confidence and motivation to exercise
  • no previous Zumba or dance experience is necessary to participate
  • easily adapted to a variety of age groups and fitness levels
  • suitable for both large and small groups
  • everyone will have fun!

What Do You Need for a Zumba Fundraiser?

The basic things you need to have to hold a Zumba fundraising event are:

  • A venue: Try to arrange one at a location that is either free or negotiate a discount to help ensure your fundraiser is as profitable as possible. Potential locations include school gymnasiums, community centers, fitness clubs, or dance studios.
  • Instructor(s): It's preferable to have a certified Zumba instructor or group of instructors to lead the class. Having a few instructors can make the event more interesting, and is highly recommended for large groups so that everyone will be able to see an instructor to follow the movements.
  • Participants: Attendees can be either members of the organization or club that is trying to raise money, students from school, friends, and family of the organizers, or the general public. Depending on your fundraising goal you will need to ensure you can spread the word to reach your target audience.
A raffle table can bring in extra money for your fundraiser, and add extra excitement to the event.

Tips for Planning a Successful Zumba Fundraiser

  • Plan ahead as far in advance as possible (at least a couple of months) to allow lots of time to promote the event and obtain any necessary donations of prizes or supplies
  • Make a list of all of the various tasks and delegate different responsibilities to individuals or groups
  • Be sure to remind people that they don't need to have any previous Zumba experience to have fun at the event
  • If children will be attending the event, ensure the instructors know to play music that is appropriate for young ears
  • If there will be a silent auction, 50/50, raffle tickets, or merchandise sold at the event, make sure to advertise this so interested people know to bring extra money
  • Try to supply water for participants that don't bring their own.

Thank you! The Zumba fundraisers I've attended have been so much fun, and there's always great feedback from the attendees. It's definitely something a little different, which is great for organizations or schools that are getting tired of doing the same fundraising activities every year.

Claudia Porter on January 31, 2013:

This is a terrific idea. I will be passing this on to our PTA chairperson as they are always looking for different fundraising ideas. Thanks!
