Dress Up As Doc Brown, The Mad Scientist In Back To The Future
Dress Up As A Mad Scientist This Halloween
A Mad Scientist costume creates a picture in your mind, doesn't it? Do you picture Dr. Evil from Austin Powers, Doc Brown from Back to the Future, Dr. Frankenstein from Young Frankenstein or the Mary Shelley book, Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein or some other professor type? Here is a list of some of the most famous mad scientists I can think of:
- Dr. Evil - Austin Powers
- Dr. Frankenstein - Mary Shelley's Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus
- Dr. Jekyll - the alter ego of the kind Mr. Hyde From Robert Louis Stevenson
- Dr. Moreau - H.G. Wells
- Dr. Strangelove - Wheel chair ridden evil scientist
- Dr. Frank N Furter - Rocky Horror Picture Show
- Doc Brown - Back to the Future
- Dr. Nefario - Despicable Me
These are some pretty whacked out characters, but they all fit the requirements needed to be classified as a mad scientist. Each and everyone of them is an evil genius who has gone too far in the name of science. My favorite looks on the list are Doc Brown and Dr. Frankenstein...at least the Gene Wilder version. Most of them would be a fun theme to dress up in for Halloween.

Dr Frankenstein Costume Ideas
Dr. Frankenstein is a character from Mary Shelley's novel written in 1818. It's the story of a young doctor who, after the death of his mother, tries to create living tissue. The funniest version of this story is "Young Frankenstein" starring Gene Wilder as the mad scientist. You can see he fits the part perfectly in the picture up above.
A key aspect of this crazy, mad lab guy is the wild hair! A stethoscope is another prop you might want to consider for this outfit. A Plastic container with a foam brain - you can find those weird "Grow A Brain" for this. It comes as a small brain and when you put it in water, it grows. Label this lab specimen "Ab-Normal" just like the one in Young Frankenstein.
The Mad Dr. Evil Costume Look
Dr. Evil is a character from the movie, Austin Powers. This maniacal doctor is played by Mike Meyers. He isn't dressed in the white coat we see so many scientists in, nor does he have the wild hair we often see. He is, in fact, bald. He is clad in a gray nehru suit. He has a bald Sphynx cat named Mr. Bigglesworth and his trademark hand gesture is holding his pinky finger to the corner of his mouth.
So, the clothing and accessories you need to recreate a Dr. Evil costume at home are:
- A Bald Cap
- Pinky Ring
- A Gray Suit - Nehru style
- FX Scar Kit - To Make A Scar Under Your Right Eye
- A Stuffed Sphynx Cat (that's a bald cat)
