The feline pictured below is the classic cat, strutting his stuff, on an orange background.
The tomcat below is preened and ready for a night on the prowl. Look out ladies, 'cause here he comes:
It's the glow-in-the-dark eyes which give the black cats their eerie mystery, especially on a dark Halloween night when people expect to be frightened. Those eyes light up like a jack-o'-lantern!
Domestic felines are known as pets with an attitude. Sometimes, they just turn their backs and refuse to acknowledge your existence altogether. That's their way of saying that your ability to open a can of tuna fish is the only thing that impresses them about you. If you have one of these kitties at home, you'll appreciate the meaning of this pose in silhouette:
Here's a pose that looks like a cat acrobat – either that, or a lawn ornament. (Pink flamingos, look out!)
This art below is the classic Halloween clip art, in the black and orange colors of the holiday. (If you like the combination of felines and pumpkins, then you'll love these pumpkin carving ideas.) Remember that all of the art on this page can be printed out to use for holiday decorations.
Scary Halloween Cats
These Halloween cats are tricksters, ghouls and devils in disguise. We'll start this off with a black cat raising his back, which is a sure sign that he's about to pounce. Look out now because he's looking right at you!
The guy below is one mean dude and I wouldn't want to turn the corner and see him in a dark alley!
So where does the bad reputation come from for Halloween cats? As far as we know, the superstitions developed in Celtic cultures around a mythical creature known as The Cat Sith.
The legends report that certain black cats, with a patch of white fur on their chests, surrounded the bodies of the recently dead and could steal their souls on the way to the afterlife. The legends grew to embody the Cat Sith as a witch's companion and later, the witch could be transformed into a Sith. Spooky!
Below is an illustration of a flying Sith from a 1782 English fairy tale book:
Here's one with devil ears – truly creepy! Notice the curlicue tail. This guy is up to something, that's for sure.
This demonic Halloween cat sprouts horns and has cloven hooves:
Here's a screeching alley cat on the prowl with bristled hair on his back:
You can see this Halloween cat in the light of the full moon:
Here's another view showing the huge, golden harvest moon. The sketch resembles a character from the famous Dr. Seuss book.
This guy has his claws out and he's headed straight for you!
Here's one mean dude out Trick-Or-Treating on Halloween night:

Funny Halloween Cats
If your kids are so young they still cry watching Bambi, here are some funny Halloween cats. This one has a great big, Cheshire cat grin:
Here's a devilish Halloween clip art of a mouser cat catching mice with a pitchfork:
I can't explain it, but I just love this one. It reminds me of scraping a blackboard with fingernails.
This naughty kitty is sticking his tongue out. (Bad kitty!)
My what big eyes you have. All the better to see you with, my dear.
Halloween Cats Closeups
The black cats get the reputation for their ghostly appearance because, in the darkness, sometimes all you can see are the haunting eyes. That's enough to freak you out on any night, let alone on Halloween. These animals are night-time predators and their slit-like irises help them to see in the dark.
Here's a closeup that you could print out and use as a Halloween mask:
This ghoulish guy looks almost like a wolf in the darkness.
Check out the sinister grin on this Halloween clip art. That may look like a smile, but his teeth are bared.
Here's looking at you, kid. Oh, my!
The eyes say it all!
Happy Halloween!

Hi Shyron: I'd rather see a black cat than a coyote! I love that picture of the cat scratching down the blackboard, too. It's part of the LOL cats trend that's still sweeping the Internet. I still don't understand the trend. Why cats instead of dogs or some other animal?

Writer Fox, black cats are beautiful and interesting. The one with the pumpkin looks just like the one that goes by my house every night at 9pm. I just hope the coyote does not get him.
I like the one scratching the blackboard.

Some of my most favorite kitties of all time have been black. One named Toodie stole my heart right away. She was the most gentle kitty that I have ever loved.
This collection of kitty art is spectacular. So many choices to select from..
Thanks for sharing.
Angels are on the way to you ps

Hi Flourish: Many cultures have a tradition that black cats are lucky. In Japan, for example, if a black cat crosses your path it is a sign that good fortune will follow. The really weird thing is that cats come in many colors, but the black ones get the most attention. Thanks for sharing and for the pins.
FlourishAnyway from USA on October 10, 2014:
All black cats are sure lucky in my book! I have three of them, and we have to pay particular attention to them during the Halloween season, protecting them from potential ill-doers. Trick-or-treaters love the sight of three black cats, jack-o-lanterns, and our spooky decorations. The cats fit right in. One of mine even has the sprig of white on his chest, but I'm pretty sure he's not a soul-thief. He's too sweet for that. I shared and pinned this awesome creation of yours as you head for 2 million.
