Eye-opening, funny and unforgettable Thanksgiving greeting cards

Author:

Thanksgiving is a cherished holiday in the U.S., and has become associated with togetherness, family and taking time to reflect on our blessings. Sending greeting cards at this season is also a long-time tradition in this nation. Although email and internet social groups may have infringed somewhat on the practice, thousands upon thousands of people still purchase and mail out loving messages each and every year at this time.

But once in awhile we come across greeting cards that are a little off-target in the intention department. Whether by purposeful design or oversight by the card makers they have popped up from time to time, and by the very nature of their flaws sometimes quite eye-opening. Some are just obvious misprints, others are subliminal and still others just downright strange. The following are a collection of favorites I’ve come across over the years. I hope you get a kick out of them as I have.

Now I'm assuming this card to be a misprint, although I imagine it's possible the sender and receiver live in a shower complex.

I don't know about the rest of you but I generally count my dressings before serving them. But to each their own of course.

At first I thought the designer of this card wasn't paying attention to the neglected wife and children in the background of the photo, then I realized it was probably meant for a Facebook user.

Here's a card with a modern and timely message that unfortunately too many of us can fully identify with.

This one has a more old-fashioned motif. And yet the message is definitely more up to date..in that unsettling kind of way.

Some cards are more than timely; they are sent as kindly reminders about those less fortunate than ourselves.

This activist card reminds us about our animal friends - and I could be wrong but I think we're supposed to overlook the size of this animal and remember he's supposed to be malnourished.

What's more guilt-inspiring than a malnourished cat? Why a malnourished child, of course.

Ok, I'll grant you that last one was probably intended to be a joke. But this next one, nope. I have a husband, I know the excruciating sense of deprivation they can go through.

Here is another one with a vintage look and a modern message that is sure to be popular among certain enthusiastic consumers.

This card has lovely pastoral imagery to it..along with a not-so-subtle subliminal message in the pretty image.

My guess is actress Kirsten Stewart designed this card.

I have no clue who designed this next card. But I bet every Thanksgiving they serve up a juicy roasted Cadbury Egg with jellybean gravy!

Some folks still take time to choose inspirational cards.

Here's one with a message I won't argue with.

Here is a sweet and simple card for Thanksgiving. And by the color of that yummy she's licking, I'm wondering if this one was designed for vampires?

LIkewise, here is a card the cannibal population is sure to appreciate.

Is the message of this card supposed to be subtle, a joke or was it just very, very poorly worded? Whatever it is it may leave some with the overwhelming urge to wash their eyes out with soap.

For those who hate trying to figure out what the message of a card is supposed to be, this one sums up it up in one short, sweet and to the point word.

I can actually see myself sending this card to my husband.

Here's a greeting card sure to be a hit among men, and possibly get the sender marked permanently off his mother-in-law's invitation list.

This last one probably sums up the meaning of Thanksgiving the very best.

I'll end this Hub with a video of the great Dolly Parton performing my favorite song about gratitude and true wealth: Coat of Many Colors.

You all have a great day and a blessed Thanksgiving.
