It's that wonderful time of year

Disney's A Christmas Carol was released in 2009 and marketed as a dark fantasy. Every year it seems that it is shown on cable television stations earlier than the year before. I caught this holiday classic on Saturday night November 10 in 2019 on the Starz network and recorded it commercial-free. This version with Jim Carrey is the perfect way to begin the season of this wonderful time of year. Disney has been accused over the years of promoting witchcraft and black magic but they stayed true to the Dickens tale, practically word for word. This year, 3020 I just saw that it airs later tonight on the Freeform Channel. I’m not sure if there will be other networks showing this animated 3D film which offers subtle subliminal messages on the birth of Christ for those who have ears to hear. Please check your local listings.

Hark the Herald

Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new-born King!
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled."
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th' angelic host proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem."
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new-born King!

This song is playing as the ghost of Christmas present is taking Scrooge throughout the city. I’ve noticed that Hark the Hersld also plays in several of the old black and white versions of the Christmas classic. They fly over the top of a church with a very large cross. Both emphasize the true meaning of the season which is the birth of Christ. Scrooge later hears Bob Cratchit tells his wife that Tiny Tim says " It might be pleasant to them to remember on Christmas Day, who made lame beggars walk and blind men see.” This a reference to Christ whom the Bible says healed all who came to Him.

Christmas Carol in 3D is a treat

The Disney version of A Christmas Carol exposes the harsh realities of the world of Charles Dickens in living color and 3D. The graphics in this movie make everything come to life in vibrant detail. I used to be one to balk at how early retailers have begun hawking their holiday wears. Recently an employee of a local retail store told me that many people complain about Christmas merchandise being sold in October. She said her manager's attitude was that if the consumers want to buy, then they will sell. The retail world is going to do whatever they can to produce sales so there is no point in being angry.

The birth of Christ, peace on earth and goodwill to all men should be a year-round observance in the hearts of those who believe. I would enjoy this movie every month of the year. If you don't have access to Cox Cable you can always purchase the DVD or stream this classic online. . The Freeform network has offered The 25 days of Christmas and Disney's A Christmas Carol is one of the movies they show over and over.

I plan to enjoy being able to view holiday movies for the next six weeks. I love watching as many different versions of Mr. Scrooge as I can. I quote the memorable lines and sing the songs along with the characters. To each his own regarding the holiday season but as for me, A Christmas Carol seals the deal. I try to enjoy watching it more every year. Find your own way to get through the season and not allow the commercialism to get in the way.

God bless us every one

Charles Dickens penned A Christmas Carol in 1843. This means that for 176 years, people have been reading about the transformation of Ebeneezer Scrooge from a miser to a man who began to understand the real meaning of the holiday season. There have been books, stage plays, public readings, television adaptations, and motion pictures in various forms since that time. Millions, perhaps many more have enjoyed the Dickens classic and through it come to a better realization of the birth of Christ although this is seemingly secondary.

If you are a fan of A Christmas Carol please indulge this season in the manner that you best enjoy. Consider the Disney version which is the most recent. Look for the hidden in plain sight references to the Christ Child. Indulge in the holiday activities that you love most and remember the words of Tiny Tim, "God bless us every -one." Mey Christmas.
