Royal Icing Using Meringue Powder

4 c powdered sugar

1/2 t salt

2/3 c sugar

1 egg

1 T light corn syrup

1 T vanilla extract

thin licorice

375 degree oven. Mix and form a roll to refrigerate. Slice the dough and roll to 1/4". Use a mitten cookie cutter. Make 2 different color dough and shape into rectangular shapes. Refrigerate. Then, roll out to 8 x 11 and stack both together and slice into 2 inches and then turn them onto the side so that you see alternating stripes. Press together and then put wax paper on top of the stripes and then roll out. Poke a hole in each mitten if you want to thread a thin licorice.

Use two color dough and twist to form the candy cane cookies.

How many dozen do the recipes make?

formosangirl (author) from Los Angeles on January 24, 2012:

Thanks, Alocsin. You are right. The techniques can be used on cookies for any occasion.

Aurelio Locsin from Orange County, CA on January 23, 2012:

Wish I'd discovered these techniques during Xmas. But I suspect they can be adapted to other holidays. Voting this Up and Useful.

formosangirl (author) from Los Angeles on December 31, 2011:

Thanks, homesteadbound. Themed cookies are considered fancier, and I have noticed a lot of people giving cookies and pastries as gifts because food tends to be better group gifts. Here in Los Angeles, there is a Cuban bakery shop that has a waiting period of over an hour right before the holidays.

formosangirl (author) from Los Angeles on December 31, 2011:

Thanks, RTalloni.I think small children do not associate certain cookies with certain holidays. Cute is all year round.

Cindy Murdoch from Texas on December 30, 2011:

These cookies were great! They would make great gifts and be really fun at parties. I loved them all!

RTalloni on December 30, 2011:

These are really cute examples of decorated cookies. Christmas may be over for this year, but these ideas are adaptable for every holiday season and I intend to keep them in mind. Thanks!
