Christmas Gifts Ideas For Women

Men Must Read!!

I know there are some out there who have no idea what to get their sister, wife or girlfriend for Christmas. Buying for females forty years and older can prove difficult, so when getting gifts for these females take it from a female at that age. From my point of view I will attempt to help by choosing stuff that I would like.

In general, I love gifts and no gift is too bad, but if someone should ask me what I want for Christmas I would think about two things:

  1. What are the things I like the most
  2. What are the things I need the most

Depending on who is buying the gift I also think about cost. If I know the person's budget then it's easier for me to tell them exactly what to get me. See below for my Christmas wish list.

I am trying to keep the budget under US $500.

What women want!

Before I get to my personal list, lets talk about what women really want.

Women want romance. So when you get a gift for your spouse think about the romantic side of the gift. The better you know your spouse the easier it will be to get her a gift. For instance, if your wife is a sexy vixen you will get her sexy lingerie and even something that both of you can enjoy. On the other hand if your wife is a deeply religious woman maybe a cross pendant and chain will be great for her.

One thing to remember is that you would not get your wife the same gift you would get your daughter or sister. Never buy more than one of the same gift unless you are giving several people from different household who will never meet. Don't buy the same jewelry or cologne for both wife and mother.

Try to figure out, not what they really need but what would make them happy. Some women will be happy with what they need at the moment while others have their minds set on their wants. Oh, another thing, never get your wife a household appliance unless she specifically asks for it.

  • A romantic getaway for two
  • A diamond ring or tennis bracelet
  • A new car
  • Getting engaged
  • and the list goes on.............

To cut a long story short, jewelry will make any woman smile.

  • For your mother get her jewelry, a good painting or a sculpture.
  • For your sister a gadget, a great book or a house plant. Your mom may like the house plant if she is a gardening freak and the plant is unusual.
  • For your child's teacher, please do not send a religious gift. A book, plant or basket of goodies is a great idea.

See list of suggested gifts below:-

Appliances your wife may want....

As I mentioned before don't get an appliance unless your wife sees something special that she hopes you will buy. If this happens she will start murmuring or mentioning it early so as to give you a hint. Here is a small list of specific appliances that your wife may want and need:

  1. KitchenAid KSM150PSER 5-Qt. Artisan Series with Pouring Shield
  2. Cuisinart CBK-100 2-Pound Programmable Breadmaker
  3. Cuisinart CSB-80 Smart Stick Power Trio High Torque Hand Blender

My need list

  • MS office software
  • The digital recorder
  • Webcam
  • CorelDraw software
  • Screenwriting software
  • A bathroom scale. I have been gaining weight and must get one soon. I never had a problem with weight before but recently I have been steadily gaining.
  • Any good recipe book

My Want List

  • I am a jewelry lover so maybe a nice earring or necklace may make my Christmas special. I don't like synthetic material so the stones must be real. It doesn't have to be diamonds. Any natural stone will do. My favorites are Aquamarine, topaz, emerald, amethyst and sapphire. Aquamarine and topaz are semiprecious but real non-the-less.
  • I love gadgets. I don't have a Kindle yet so maybe a digital reader of some sort will do. I personally prefer the kindle to other readers and getting it from the Amazon store will save some money.
  • My digital recorder broke so am hoping for one. I like to record stuff, helps to keep me organized and as a writer sometimes I can record my ideas if I am not near my computer
  • A nice perfume will always get me smiling. I have to hide my stuff from my fiancé because he is not particular about what is written on the bottle (for men or women). So long as I use it, he will.
  • Computer software. I would really like MS office 2013. It has features that my current office software does not have so an upgrade would be nice.
  • Handbags. I am not particular about brands but a Louis Vuitton would be nice.

I don't know how helpful this is to anyone shopping for gifts for females in my age group but I hope this really helps. I have never shopped for someone I don't know, so it's easier for me to give my own personal ideas. The main thing is to know the person you are shopping for so you can give them something they want.

When it comes to Christmas many women would like a gift they want rather than what they need, especially women my age or younger.

Amelia Griggs from U.S. on March 02, 2012:

Hi again, Cardisa... I used to only eat milk chocolate but then with all the talk about health benefits and dark chocolate I figured I would try it and I really liked it. Now I notice a lot of foods have dark chocolate added, such as granola bars, cereals, etc. So I think it's getting more popular.

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on March 02, 2012:

Thank you Easylearningweb. I don't know a lot of females who like dark chocolate but I could add it, since I myself am a

Amelia Griggs from U.S. on March 02, 2012:

Cool ideas...dark chocolate nut assortment is one I would add to the list...since there are health benefits to eating dark chocolate, it's a win-win situation!

Nice hub. :-)

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on December 02, 2011:

Me too Mljdgulley354, me too!

mljdgulley354 on December 02, 2011:

The gift I am enjoying and is unique and fun is the friends I'm making here on hubpages.

Stephanie Das from Miami, US on November 08, 2011:

Ok, I'll browse them very soon.

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 08, 2011:

Hi Stephanie, no it's okay to chuckle here and there. Thanks for the compliment.

Yes I do have other hubs on visiting Jamaica. I'll share them so check your feed.

Stephanie Das from Miami, US on November 08, 2011:

No matter what the topic, you always come through with great writing. Is it bad that this hub made me chuckle a litte bit though?

Oh, but the one at the bottom caught my eye...I may choose Jamaica for my next winter destination to escape from the cold where I am now. Do you have more hubs about planning a trip to jamaica?

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 07, 2011:

LOL...anticipation and imagination!

Hubertsvoice on November 07, 2011:

Truly, imagination and anticipation are good things that add to great creative writing.

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 07, 2011:

Hubert, I wonder what part of yourself you usually give. I am wondering all sorts of parts wrapped in a bow...LOL

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 07, 2011:

RH, I have observed quite a few things, that culture makes no difference once you are female. Women basically like the same things.$50 on a bag inn Jamaica is cheap, trust me, it translates to $4,500 and that's the usual price range for a good regular bag. A brand bag would cost over $6,000 so it's not bad at all.

Hubertsvoice on November 06, 2011:

I always give a little of myself wrapped in a tiny bow. Sad when you think of it. Perhaps this year I should go shopping. Oh me. Hmmmmm

Kelly Umphenour from St. Louis, MO on November 06, 2011:

Cardisa - I love the same stuff you do! I'm going to just give this list to my husband and tell him a smart man would use it! Lol.

I just got some of the Sex in the City perfume - I actually like it! My fav is my Mademoiselle Chanel;) love it - in fact I'm gonna go spray some on right now!

Hey I hope that some rich dude send you everything on this list! Haha! Voted up and all that. Hey I want a Louis Vuitton too - I just can't see spending that much on a bag - I'm not rich enough yet:). I'm working on it - I've made 7 bucks on hub! Lol j/k

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 06, 2011:

Sunnie, we are so different from guys. They want that nice tool set, drill or lawn mover that the can show off to their friends. We want that hand bag or diamond that we can't boast about.

Sunnie Day on November 06, 2011:

Thank you on behalf of us women out there..and it is true a lawnmower nor a drill is on our wish list..hahah

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 06, 2011:

I love books, I just hate them as gifts. I always prefer to buy my own because people will either give me something I already have or something I really don't like.

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 06, 2011:

Tlpoague, that's a really good idea, but where I come from the only gift that someone might make is Christmas pudding!

FloraBreenRobison on November 06, 2011:

From a 35 year old who is apparently old for my age (see latest rant): People used to get me books because they know I love to read-but no one knows what I have already read anymore! That's a non-age related gift that usually works, but with me I've read so much...

Tammy on November 05, 2011:

Great ideas for those that are in need of some. This year, my family has decided to make our own gifts for each other than to buy them. Knowing me, I will wait till the last minute to think of something...LOL!

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 05, 2011:

Do your gift shopping early and you will get the gift you want. Sometimes waiting until the last minute means the gift you were planning for might be gone, out of stock and you have to settle for whatever is there.

PixelsToLife from Arkansas on November 05, 2011:

Usually I wait until the last minute to pick up that special gift for my wife but this year I am going to do better. These are some great ideas and I may try a few out.

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 05, 2011:

I figured that a long time ago Epi. It's not that they can't read...they get distracted easily!

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 05, 2011:

Oh, you are making me blush again Ahorseback.

I forgot how to do the fan

I know how you feel so seeing you on my hubspace is fanmail enough.!

epigramman on November 05, 2011: reference to Maggie: yeah but can most men read, I think they just prefer to 'look' ..... lol

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 05, 2011:

Leslie, I am happy you think so. Thanks for reading and commenting.

ahorseback on November 05, 2011:

And have I told you lately how I love your soulful gifts of knowledge and wisdom.......I couldn't figure out how to give fan mail if it doesn't hit me in the head!....Hugs......;-}

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 05, 2011:

Ahorseback, never listen your wife on her birthday, valentine or Christmas! It doesn't have to be expensive just something you know she will really love. Jewelry always work! Anything else is a matter of her personal tastes. One more thing, on these three occasions, give her something that she wants and not necessarily what she needs and if you can afford it, give her both.

Leslie Jo Barra on November 05, 2011:

I am sure this will be very helpful to some men out there.

ahorseback on November 05, 2011:

Cadisa , Here's the thing ! women are deceptive! "Oh I don't need anything honey" or just one or two "little things " , or "let's not spend any money this year , we'll save our money".......Help , I really need help here Cardisa......What doe's a woman really want.....LOL....:-}

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 05, 2011:

Maggie, thanks for confirming! I was wondering how accurate I was. I will put a subtitle there!

Nadine M AuCoin from Fort McMurray on November 05, 2011:

Hi there (Cardisa), this seems to cover it!!! Most women would agree!!! Maybe change the title: MEN MUST READ!!!

Carolee Samuda (author) from Jamaica on November 05, 2011:

Epi, if I was laying under your Christmas tree, I probably be wearing my birthday suit!

Love and hugs and I am very happy to have met you too.

epigramman on November 05, 2011:

...well I already have my Christmas gift sweet dear Carolee - it's you; your friendship, your esteemed status as my hub colleague, and that the fact that we met at all in this big crazy world - and that is a miracle in itself - and yes if you were laying under my Christmas tree in something by Victoria's Secrets - lol - that would be okay too!!!!
