50g cocoa
Two eggs
Three tablespoons baking powder
One small cup soft butter
One cup milk
Three and a half cups flour
Three cups sugar
One teaspoon cinnamon and half teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients into a bowl. Do not mix separately but add the milk last.
- Mix all the ingredients together then beat for three minutes.
- Bake in a 350 oven in two 8 x 8 x 2 inch greased pans for twenty five minutes.
- Allow to stand for five minutes before turning out on wire trays to cool.
- When cooled down, first turn top layer upside down and frost bottom and sides of cake.
- Put aside to set while you deal with the bottom layer which forms the box part of the treasure box. With a sharp knife slice the cake into two layers.
- Take the upper layer and cut a square out of it, leaving a border of cake about one inch.
- Place this hollow square on top of the lower layer, fixing it on with jam, filling or frosting. Now frost the bottom layer in the shape of a box.
- Turn over the cake which forms the lid of the box and frost the top.
- Fill your box with foil covered chocolate coins, candy necklaces, smarties and other candies.
- Rest the lid on the box as if it were open and pipe on ‘iron bands’ and ‘nails.’
- Cut up the square you cut out of the ‘bottom’ of the box into little cakes for the party and frost them.
Pirate Party Games
If your child’s birthday is in the summer, they can play ‘walk the plank.’ Fill a portable pool in the garden with water and support a plank that leads into the portable pool. The older children get blindfolded and walk the plank, then fall into the ‘ocean,’ while the younger ones walk without a blindfold. The kids love this game. Remember to include a notice in the invitation for the kids to bring their swimsuits. Another popular game to play at a pirate’s party, is a ball toss game. Use water filled balloons as ‘cannon balls.’
For The Pirates Party Theme
Ask the children to dress as pirates.
Hand out eye patches to all his little friends
Give each child a pirate’s ship created from cardboard.
Decorate the table with a tablecloth painted with a skull and have cup cakes with little flags with painted skulls attached to toothpicks.
Have hot dogs with little flags on toothpicks.
A Treasure Hunt
Pair the children in two’s with a ‘old’ map. Bury ‘treasure’ in covered boxes for the children to find. Each buried treasure containing two packets of ‘treasure’ with foil covered chocolate coins and candy necklaces filling up the rest of the box.
Show a Pirate and Treasure Themed DVD.
This is sure to get them in the mood. A pirate theme party is inexpensive but requires quite a lot of preparation and effort. However this is one theme that is very popular with little boys.

You're right aviannovice, would be a wonderful change from formal boring parties.

This would even be a wonderful switch for adults. There is no law that says we cannot still play. After all, innocence is what keeps us young.
