Open Letter to the Easter Bunny

Linda (Kaywood) Bilyeu is a self-published author. Her books are available on Amazon. She writes from the heart—there is no other way.

Hoppy Easter!

Dear Easter Bunny, Your day to shine is quickly approaching. The children are already anticipating what gifts and surprises the Easter Bunny will bring them.

The squeals and cheers from children are always music to our ears. With your long, floppy ears I bet you could hear the jubilation from miles away!

During the Christmas season I wrote a letter to Santa and it was such a success that many have requested a letter to you. Just like Santa you are also very special. Granted you don't bring as many gifts, but your gifts are always appreciated.

Not that I am comparing the two of you, but have you considered having a competition with Santa to see who could bring the most gifts per child?

We could call it a challenge of the Holiday Icons. You might find some extra carrots waiting for you if you decide to take on this challenge.

Personally I am a fan of bunnies. I think bunnies are interesting creatures. My bunny Cupcake has a personality that intrigues me. She lets me know when it's time for her carrot, when she's hungry or needs water. Her and I have the same diet since we both enjoy raw vegetables. Once in awhile when she's "in the mood" she enjoys playing with the playground ball.

Easter time means springtime. My favorite season. Spring symbolizes new life. With the flowers bringing new buds and the trees budding new leaves. Eggs are a popular staple during the Easter season. They also symbolize new life. Actually the real eggs that contain chicks. Not the plastic eggs that are filled with candy and used to hide for Easter egg hunts.

Coloring eggs is a tradition in my family and most families. I've heard that if you boil eggs with onion skins the eggs get a nice tan color. I've never tried that, have you? I finally found a way to boil eggs without the shells cracking in the process. I cover the eggs with water. Bring to a boil. Immediately remove from heat. Place lid on pot. Allow the eggs to sit for 30 minutes and they come out egg-cellent! Perfect eggs to color! We use them for deviled eggs, egg salad and to use as a topping for side salads. There are many egg-traordinary ways to use them.

Easter Bunny you bring much joy to many children when you come hopping along. Your baskets filled with artificial hay or straw are always colorful and bountiful. I do have a slight issue with the hay.

Have you ever considered using festive tissue paper instead? Have you ever tried to clean up hay after a basket has been unloaded? It's similar to Christmas tinsel, it somehow magically keeps on appearing. It's just a thought you might want to consider.

Egg hunts are very entertaining. I could imagine you hip hopping along while hiding the treasure troves.

Some of the hiding places are still a mystery to me. Such as the time I found eggs in a tree? For years I thought rabbits knew how to climb trees! I now know otherwise of course. I think.

Jellybeans of assorted colors are a rainbow of delight. While they are delicious please keep in mind that since they have a gummy consistency they are capable of taking out a tooth filling or possibly a crown. Yep, been there and done that. No more jelly beans for me.

I do love my peeps! They are great for a sugar rush! Pink, yellow or purple...I'm not particular with color, I like them all. So, feel free to bring me lots of peeps! I might be a bit old to believe in the Easter Bunny, but I'm really not. Am I?

I apologize for always eating your ears first. I can't control myself they are so conveniently placed for easy access. I've considered your arse first, but I passed, or now that I think about it you passed...ewww!

We are looking forward to your surprise visit on Easter eve. You will be hopping from home to home with your ears flopping along.

Scroll to Continue

Will Peter Cottontail be joining you? Two hares might be better than one! Your generous gifts will be given to the good children near and far. Easter wouldn't be the same without the Easter Bunny.

Keep on hopping!

I tried to teach Cupcake some tricks...I repeat "I tried."

The Easter Bunny and Easter chicks and eggs, baskets, and chocolate Easter Bunnies are wonderful traditions. My favorite are chocolate bunnies.

Rabbits are wonderful animals. The Easter Bunny has several different origins.

Mary Craig from New York on April 09, 2015:

Three years later this hub is still timely. After all, bunnies are the thing! We had pet bunnies when my kids were young and t hey were so precious. Cupcake is adorable.

I love the tissue paper idea. Cats and small kids can get into trouble with the "grass" in bakets so tissue paper is much safer.

Hope you had a Happy Easter.

Voted up, useful, awesome, and interesting.

Gypsy Rose Lee from Daytona Beach, Florida on April 05, 2015:

I believe in the Easter Bunny because Santa told me there was an Easter Bunny. This was delightful. My Sid sends sincere meows to Cupcake. He admire the bunny's soft fur because his own is now a bit mottled as he sheds some in the spring. Happy Easter to you and your family! Passing the good news on.

Suzie from Carson City on April 04, 2015:

Just hoppin on by, wish you & yours a very Happy Easter....especially for the little chickies......and A very Blessed Easter to the whole family. a very jubilant day for Christians the world over.

I decided to make Gram Dawg an Easter basket this year. Just call me "Sneaky." I will use any excuse available to buy chocolate & stash it around the house!! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO.......Hallelujah, Paula

Haha! Happy Easter Effer! :)

Suzie from Carson City on April 10, 2014:

Another Easter....another Basket.....and lots of chocolate and colored eggs! Yum! I will eat the jelly beans you don't eat! They're my favorite. The Easter Bunny leaves me the mini-sugar-free....soft & chewy sweet n sour jelly beans!! I can eat a pound in an instant. (Don't tell my dentist!)

When my kids were little, they thought we had a mean Easter Bunny because their baskets were so hard to find! LOL.....Hey, I have no control over what the Easter Bunny does!

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on April 09, 2014:

Hi Teaches...Cupcake is a talented bunny.

Hoppy Easter Stephanie! I'm sure you'll be creating one of your yummilicious cakes, please enjoy a slice for me also :)

Mary Hyatt from Florida on March 29, 2013:

I heard on the news that the White House will no longer have the Easter Egg Roll on the lawn; trying to save $, I think!

We always hid plastic eggs for the kids and of course we never could find them all. They would turn up a year or so later!

Voted UP, and shared for Easter. Have a Happy Easter, Mary

Thank you Roger for sharing your comment with us. I need to try the onion skins! I never heard of it until I wrote this letter. Very interesting. Thank you my friend. Happy Easter!

rogerbamps from Bree in Belgium on April 08, 2012:

Dear Sunshine I would like to congratulate you nice story about the Easter Bunny.

The use of coloring Easter eggs, here is centuries old!!!

I quote: "I have heard that if you cook eggs with onion skins, the eggs a nice brown color. I've never tried."

It works perfectly and use comes from? "Previously, people were poor in Belgium and did not paint the Easter eggs to color.

So you see that only one bunny is all over the world!!!

My wish for you all:

"Easter is a rebirth of what once was, and ever will be." Many greetings from Belgium, Roger Bamps.

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on April 08, 2012:

Jeannie Marie from Baltimore, MD on April 07, 2012:

I never had the chance to really hear Cupcake's training video until now. I could not listen to it because of speaker issues at the time. Hehe. It seems like she is just not getting with the program. Oh well. Cupcake is so cute anyway!

Shhhh...I'm hunting Wabbit...

And I found him here (or would it be hare?..anyway...) I love Cupcake! My vote would nestle on Easter Bunny (over Santa) for the holiday icon slap down...Santa comes too much in the dead of winter for my taste...Spring is a good time to come hopping down the bunny trail.

Years ago, Linda, when my kids were small, we hid Easter eggs in the yard for them to find. Each egg was printed with an amount like 25 cents, 50 cents, $1 and so on. My husband hid them all - usually two dozen. The funniest part of the egg hunt was the kids never found them all and my sweet hubby didn't always remember where he had hidden them. Ah, those were the days. Thanks for this lovely reminder, my dear.

Nell Rose from England on February 26, 2012:

Hi, Sunshine, I love your Rabbit! Cupcake, what a great name! did you try to get cupcake to do that dance in the last video? lol! I love Easter, and now I know how to do the eggs too! rated up! cheers nell

Cupcake is darling - looks like a certain Hopper I know! Cute and fun hub - I enjoyed it! My kids wrote a great note to the Easter Bunny one year - they even asked him to leave a paw print. I treasure that little note! And yes, I still have it. Thanks for the fun read!

Where is the time going.....I can not believe the next major holiday of 2012 is almost here already...I really enjoyed your letter to Mr. Bunny. I also enjoyed your videos you included...with a special shout out to Cupcake.

Here is something you might think is funny a couple years ago Samantha was either 2 or 3....we bought here a hollow chocolate was so happy with it...until we opened it up for her to eat it....well she wanted nothing to do with it....and then her older brother bite one of the ears off....the look on Sam's face was she could not believe her brother was eating her new pet bunny....needless to say it took a year or two before she wanted a chocolate bunny again. Voted up and interesting.
