Mallika loves to enjoy small things and fun in life and believe in contentment. Life is an everyday celebration.
Indian winters are mild, pleasant, and dry with average daytime temperatures around 25 to 30-degree Celsius and nights around 10 to 18-degrees Celsius with virtually full sun and clear nights. The days are warm, and the nights are cold. India experiences frost in very few places in the northern part of the country near to the Himalayas. So, not all people enjoy snow in winter and snow fun activities.
When we google topics like "winter in India" or "winter activities in India", we usually find information about the travel places in India where people can enjoy and spend their winter but less information is present on the activities/fun, people can have in this season in India. It inspired me to write an article regarding different creative ways to enjoy winter, moreover winter evenings following the COVID guidelines.
Let's start and see ten different ways in which we can chill and have fun on those cold and lovely evenings.
1. Winter pyjama dress code and photoshoot:
Let's start the fun with winter wear like winter pyjamas as a dress code. There are many cosy winter pyjama sets available in the market within the budget. Add extra warmth to these cute pyjamas with sweaters, scarfs, shawls, winter caps, gloves and socks. These are comfortable for winter evenings and people can go outside wearing these as they cover full body and provides warmth. Cute accessories like reindeer horns, Christmas caps, pyjama dress code with stripes, hearts, ice creams, a particular colour code etc. can be planned. Make a photoshoot with different poses and accessories in this dress code with your family and friends for your scrapbook collection. A cute ramp walk may also compliment the fun time.
2. Visiting a new street food stall or cart:
India has lots and lots of street foods in every city, town and village. There are different varieties of foods and stalls to be explored in various streets of a place. One can visit a new street food stall without any plan and with a friendly budget. Gather your gang and visit some new stalls to taste hot and piping street foods whether they are kebabs, chats, butter rotis, sandwiches, hot coffee or tea etc. in your city. The evenings are the best time to enjoy any street foods.
3. Winter crafts:
A hobby adds colour to life and helps in relaxing our mind and make us tension free. Crafting is a creative hobby and making different DIY crafts with a seasonal theme is fun. Have a list of crafts with winter as the theme. It is not only fun for kids but to adults as well. Once in a while, everyone should become kids, indulge and experience their pure happiness and carefree life.
List: Paper snowflakes and hanger items, DIY snow globe, winter greeting cards for Christmas and new year, winter theme charm bracelets, paper cup luminaries, paper or cardboard penguins, winter paintings or drawings etc.
4. Bake some new winter foods:
Cooking is associated with every celebration in our lives. No food, no celebration. In every culture, there are some traditional and modern recipes suitable for a season and must and should consume in that particular season. Sometimes cooking regular recipes or native ones is boring and trying new recipes is interesting. There are some awesome winter recipes around the globe and baking is an art. Make a list of some new winter recipes which you want to try with the available ingredients and start baking with family and friends as a team. It will be fun.
List: Gingerbread, ginger cake, bonfire cupcake, muffins, cookies, pizza, chocolate cake, brownies, pies etc.
5. Winter buffet dinner:
Arranging a mini buffet dinner in winter evenings/ nights is one of the yummy ways to enjoy this season. The buffet should have a platter of winter foods like desserts, cookies, hot chocolate, hot and spicy foods, nonveg. foods etc. either traditional or new recipes. They can be either homemade or outside good food.
A home barbeque is perfect at these times. There are many gas barbeque stoves or charcoal-based barbeque stoves available in the market which can be used in the back yard or on the terrace. Grill your favourite marinated veggies or nonveg on a barbeque enjoying the buttery or greasy flavour with fire crackling sounds.
Arrange the buffet on a table in a balcony or on rooftop/terrace or in the back yard because the mantra here is to enjoy the food outside in cold climate. Let this warm winter buffet be filled with lots of laughter and happy moments.
6. A camping party in the backyard or on a terrace:
Camping in wild is exciting but camping in the backyard or on a terrace is safe and comfortable. Plan a small party with camping as the theme in a farmhouse/ home garden/a terrace/ backyard. For more excitement, plan it in a farmhouse's backyard or garden so that the thrill will be alive and it will be nearer to the experience of camping in wild. Let the place come alive with decorations like winter theme fairy lights, paper lanterns, paper snowflakes, glow sticks etc. Make your camping tent with camping gear or just a blanket tent and start a campfire or small bonfire. Take care of all the arrangements while one takes care of camping like food, gear, bugs spray etc. Do not camp alone but have a company like family, partner and friends. Enjoy the party with some board games, winter music playlists, movie marathon, star and meteor gazing etc.
Storytelling is a favourite past time from ancient times. Everyone likes to listen to stories, fictional and real. Gathering a group of people and listening and telling interesting stories is simple fun and art as well. Cosy up with blankets and pillows and gather in a hall or around a campfire or on a terrace and enjoy the fun with interesting, inspiring, thrillers, spooky stories and let your imagination run free at the narration.
8. Romantic novel or book reading:
Book reading or any novel reading is the best and simplest option if a person does not feel to do anything and simply lay on a couch or bed. Pick a fictional or nonfictional book of your favourite and start reading surrounded by warm blankets or shawls. Reading romantic books or novels in winter is like a tradition in book culture. There are many varieties in this category like historical romance, contemporary romance, teen/adult romance, erotic romance, paranormal romance etc. One can pick world-famous classics like Romeo&Juliet, Wuthering heights, Bride and prejudice etc. Pick up whatever genre you like and start the reading. If not a fan of romanticism and want some change, pick horror or thriller and let the hair on the neck raises and enjoy the suspense. The secret of enjoying the reading a good book is in visualizing the scenes when one reads a book. It is more creative than one watches a movie.
9. Spice up your bedroom life and physical intimacy:
This point is exclusively for couples. In a romantic relationship, physical intimacy is as important as an emotional connection. It is a necessity of human life and one of the seven pleasures of life(Sex, good food, lavish clothes, relaxing bath, arts and riches). This season is perfect for couples to spice up their bedroom life. The cosy snuggles and cuddles with radiating body heat accompanied by the chill weather outside are like a paradise in their bedroom. Plan a romantic evening with scented candles, hot chocolate and cosy blankets in front of a fireplace or your lovely room and let the intimacy take your relationship to next level.
10. Start a winter journal or a scrapbook:
The habit of writing a journal is one of the productive ways of healthy living and a good habit as well. Start a winter journal or create a scrapbook with a winter theme and fill it with all your memories and sweet moments with family and friends and the fun cherished in this season. Penning down the thoughts and feelings on a paper or a digital medium is a wonderful feeling and a way of reminiscing the memories. It is a beautiful habit to end a day before going to sleep.
The biggest happiness in life is being contented and enjoying every moment happily. Have a wonderful winter fun!
