Trying to launch your website but not getting time? Are 24 hours getting too short for you to prepare for your dream career? Everyone on the planet has the same 24 hours. All you need to do is smartly manage those 24 hours. That starts with effective time management tips.

When you use effective time management tips for work, your workdays become more cheerful and less stressed. Yes! you read that right.

1. Prepare a Strategy for Your Entire Week

Don’t let the calendar control you. Instead, come up with a plan to manage your calendar. Don’t just pick up tasks and start doing them. Plan your tasks. Reserve a particular day in a week, most preferably Saturday or Sunday to plan your tasks for the upcoming week. Try to stick to that schedule. This way you can review yourself and track your progress.

2. Make a Priority List

Keep the 3 most important tasks on the top of your priority list. Do not multitask. Multitasking is a high demand for job skills in the current market. But from my personal experience multi-tasking is just going to increase your pile of work. Therefore, I recommend a focus on one task at a time.

Don’t make your priority list unrealistic. Rather than making a to-do list for 50 tasks per week, I recommend making a list of 2-3 priority tasks each day. I don’t jump to task #2 until I have finished task #1.

The result? I can complete my tasks for the entire week, learn new skills, and get more productive.

3. Follow a Morning Ritual

Mornings determine how your entire day is going to be. The early hours are the best time to focus on your physical and mental development. Do not start checking your work emails or opening the messages stacked up on your notification panel, when you wake up.

But yes! If you want to say good morning to an important person, say it and keep your phone aside.

Spent your mornings with self-care practices like journaling, meditating, exercising, reviewing your life goals, eating a healthy breakfast.

4. Learn to Say “No”

Learn to say “No” to things that are not important for your career. Just because you are free do not accept someone else’s assignment. Use that time to build yourself.

Saying “no” is not easy. You may think it sounds rude. To date even I feel hesitant to say “no” in certain instances. But you have to make practice because the only important thing for you is your development.

Waking up early automatically puts you ahead of the race. The morning hours are peaceful. And you are unlikely to get interrupted during that time of the day.

6. Do the Most Dreaded Task First

As the day passes by your energy levels drop. And eventually, you postpone the task the next day. Get done with that one boring task right in the beginning. And you are at peace for the rest of the day.

I had this habit of procrastinating the most boring task. The outcome? That task used to get pushed over and over each week until the deadline arrived. And I had to stay awake late at night to complete it.

If it is a time-consuming huge task break the task into simple parts and complete it over a week.

Here are some suggestions for time management-

  • If you have to complete a 20-slide presentation, spend each day working on 3-4 slides.
  • If you have to submit a 1500 words article in 3 days, work on 500 words each day.
  • If you have to hire 3 people per month focus on shortlisting 2 CVs per day.

7. Try to Implement the 80-20 Rule

The 80-20 rule states that 20% of your efforts reap 80% of your results. So, focus on that 20% input. The rest 80% might not be very essential for your career and personal development.

Here are some illustrations of 80-20-time management tip-

  • The initial 20% of your sales pitch is the most important part.
  • The most impactful 20% of your marketing plan can get you 80% leads.
  • The first 20% of your content needs to be interesting to keep your readers glued to the end.

8. Categorize Your Time

Try to dedicate time slots for your tasks. It is an essential part of time management. Break down your entire day into dedicated time slots. Keep a timeslot available for the tasks that will enhance your career, keep a time slot to spend with your family or partner, keep a time slot for reading.

Last but not least keep a dedicated timeslot for yourself. It can be any part of the day when you feel motivated the most- morning, evening, afternoon, or night.

9. Use a Timer

This is an essential tool to use your time efficiently. Set up a timer for each task. This trick has worked for me, it can work for you too.

Here are some examples of how you can use this time management tip for work-

  • Dedicate 10 mins for re-working your to-do list and get a recap of the previous day.
  • Dedicate 1 hour to prepare your sales pitch flow
  • Dedicate 2 hours to design a product launch copy
  • Keep 3 hours to write a blog and 2 hours for writing a news release article

Set a timer that suits your work pace the best. Again, don’t keep unrealistic timelines.

10. Ask For Help

It is great to be self-reliant but, it’s not so smart trying to do everything yourself. Delegate your work. If you are an entrepreneur, hire someone suitable for the job. Outsource your work. Yes! Initially, you might not have the funds to do so. Try hiring interns or freelancers. You are just not growing your career but also helping someone else to grow.

Remember you don’t have to follow all these steps from tomorrow. Take baby steps. Have patience and try to be disciplined. You will become a productivity queen. Persistence is the key to success.
