The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7610 Electric Walking Folding Treadmill is a low-cost electric treadmill that can easily fit into most homes. Based on its size and price, it's a great way to get and stay fit without paying too much or having bulky exercise equipment taking up space. Walking daily is an easy way to stay in shape and it's recommended we get at least 10,000 steps per day. Time and weather can make that a challenge. A treadmill is great because we can go at a suitable pace and walking isn't as demanding as cycling or stair climbing on an elliptical. There's also a space to hold a phone or tablet, so you can watch shows and videos while you work out.
There are several things to consider before purchasing an SF-T7610 including size, speed, max weight, return policies, etc. One thing that surprised me about this treadmill is how sturdy it is. I was concerned that for the price, I would get something that wouldn't be strong and stable. But it's a solid machine.
There isn't a whole lot to the display. Pricier treadmills come with touchscreen displays with built-in workout programs. Some are compatible with fitness apps. The SF-T7610 displays time, distance, speed, and calories.
"The user mode setting allows the user to set specific workout times, calorie goal, or a specific distance."
If you have young children, safety is important. The treadmill comes with a safety key. The treadmill will not run if the safety key isn't in place. Pulling out the safety key will also stop the treadmill in an emergency. If you have small children, place the safety key somewhere they can't reach it when the treadmill isn't in use.
To run the treadmill, you have to plug it in, turn it on using the switch on the bottom front of the machine, and insert the red safety key.
Dimensions in inches are:
- 49.6 Length
- 26.5 Width
- 47 Height
Compare that to a regular size treadmill like the ProForm - Carbon T7 Treadmill, which is:
- 73.5 Length
- 35.2 Width
- 57.5 Height
I have my Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7610 in a hallway and there's plenty of space to walk past it.
Another thing to consider is the maximum weight of the individual using the treadmill. For the SF-T7610, the Max Weight is 220 LB (99.79031kg). The recommended max weight for the ProForm - Carbon T7 is 300 pounds (136.0777kg).
The walking/running space is 39 inches for Length x 14 inches for Width. I was worried based on pictures that the belt would be too small. However, for me, it's more than enough space for walking or jogging. I personally would be too nervous to run on such a narrow belt.
Speed ranges from 0.5 to 5 MPH (0.8 to 8 KPH). When I walk the dog, my speed ranges from 3.0 to 3.4 MPH (4.8 to 5.5 KPH), so I was concerned the maximum speed of the SF-T7610 would be too slow. For comparison, the ProForm - Carbon T7 has a maximum speed of 10 miles per hour (16 kilometers per hour). However, on the Sunny Health and Fitness treadmill, even 3 MPH (4.8 KPH) feels fast to me. That may be due to the incline.
If you want a treadmill for running, use a smartwatch or your phone to determine your normal speed. Before making a purchase, determine if the 5 MPH (8 KPH) maximum speed is enough for you. There's a slightly more expensive model, the SF-T7603, that goes up to 9 MPH (14.5 KPH). However, it is a bit larger than the SF-T7610.
Many treadmills have adjustable inclines. This isn't one of them. According to the product description:
"The incline is set at 4.8 degrees which challenges the body and increases the quality of the workout."
When you use it, you will feel like you are constantly walking up a slope. One upside of not having an adjustable incline is that fewer moving parts mean fewer things that can go wrong. And it does make for a more effective workout. But it is something to take into account before making a purchase, especially for someone who is elderly or not in good shape.
Sunny Health & Fitness has more expensive models that have adjustable inclines. For example, the SF-T4400 has inclines of 0%, 2%, and 4.37%.
Check the return policy for any large item before purchasing. If you buy from Amazon, they will accept returns. However, make sure to keep the box until the return period is up. You will have to disassemble the treadmill and fit it back into the box before returning.
Assembly & Lubrication
This treadmill is heavy at 70 pounds (31.75 kilograms), which makes it hard to get into the house, and in our case upstairs, but it is easy to assemble. It took us about 20 minutes to set up. It comes with everything you need to do the assembly. You mainly have to attach the base support tubes and the handrails.
It also comes with a lubricant that has to be placed directly underneath the belt. The Sunny Health & Fitness video below shows how to apply the lubricant and the instructions contain information on how often to lubricate.
"Light user (less than 3 hours/ week) - every six months
Medium user (3-5 hours/ week) - every three months
Heavy user (more than 5 hours/ week) - every two months"
How to Lubricate Your Treadmill | Maintenance Tip
The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7610 isn't going to be for everyone. Exercise enthusiasts may want to spend more and get a better machine with more features. But it is ideal for casual users who want to stay in shape and get enough steps each day. It's easy to assemble, easy to use, and easy to fold and store when not in use. The max speed, max weight, and permanent incline are things to take into account before making a decision to purchase this particular model. If buying online, pay attention to the return policy because it is a large and heavy item. And keep the box until the return period expires.
