Taking Pure Calamansi, One of the Self-Proven Natural Healthy Foods

It is distressing to hear news about a relative who suffered a heart attack and eventually die from it. It was relayed to us that after a day’s work in the house: cleaning, washing clothes and attending to other things that require physical exertion, she was so exhausted. A few hours before going to sleep, she enjoyed a hearty meal. The following morning, she didn’t wake up. Probably she was not keen on natural healthy foods to eat and gorge on anything. This prompted her immediate family to rush her to the hospital. She was in coma and different tubes were attached to her limp body. A few hours later, after the doctor told them that the tubes are the only ones that keep her alive, the immediate family agreed to have the tubes removed. She died of a heart attack.

Another distant relative, a male, just fell down. He was rushed to the hospital and was immediately pronounced dead. The doctors said he suffered a massive stroke. He was just 37 years old. He was a very industrious man whose main source of income is fishing. He lives in a coastal place and was very physically active. Although one can't guess if he's eating natural healthy foods that would have saved his life.

What’s so surprising is that both of them are healthy. They have no illnesses or in any medication. But all of a sudden, they are gone. Heart attack and stroke are truly treacherous, like a thief in the night ready to pounce on unsuspecting victims.

Somehow, we are entirely to blame. We never know when or if a thief will attack us. Similarly, we are unaware that a certain disease is creeping up and is ravaging our body already, showing no indications that it is slowly doing something. Just because we appear to be healthy, we need not suspect of anything bad. Why, even cancer victims will just know that they are at a later stage of the disease upon consulting and testing. The bottom line is, we are not always prepared at the onslaught of a certain illness. All we can do is to take precautions particularly by taking and eating natural healthy foods.

The story of the two relatives I mentioned above brought me to realize that health, indeed, should not be taken for granted. There are various medicines to cure a certain illness, however, there are far more ways of maintaining good health. All we have to do is to take and eat natural healthy foods. We don’t have to wait before an illness strikes us. Here are some of the self-proven and natural healthy foods which I and my family take to maintain and ward off diseases. Since using these natural healthy foods, i haven’t experienced fever for more than 15 years already. I occasionally get the colds but nothing more. Ditto with my husband and son. In fact, we have not used our health card for hospitalization because we simply have not experienced being hospitalized since my husband and I started our small family almost 17 years ago. I figure that maybe these three natural healthy foods which we never fail to take or eat help us a lot and I would like to share them to you. I hope you can get something from our experience.



1. Calamansi

It is also written as kalamansi, a Philippine lime. It is a small, round citrus fruit which is greenish to yellow in color and measures approximately 0.2. cm. to 4.5 cm. Its skin is green or yellow in color and it has a very sour taste. Its flesh is also of the same color. It can also be used as a food preservative. What I do is that every evening before going to bed or after eating our supper, I squeeze 15 calamansi for my husband, 8 pieces for me and 8 pieces also for my son. We drink the pure juice, even though it is very sour. We follow it up with water to remove the very acidic taste. Upon researching, I found out that calamansi contains vitamin B, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin C , calcium, iron and phosphorus . I also found out that it keeps our kidneys healthy and eliminates foul urine odor. It is also said to be beneficial in lowering cholesterol. I am particularly interested to know this one because prior to using and drinking calamansi regularly, my husband’s urine has a really foul odor. If he uses the bathroom and forgets to flush the bowl, I would get dizzy with the smell. He also had a high blood pressure, probably because he smokes and likes fatty foods. After a week of continuously drinking the pure calamansi juice, the foul odor is gone. His blood pressure is stable. So to this day, I continue to serve it on our table. Certainly one of the most natural healthy foods around.

Calamansi can even be used for personal hygiene as a deodorant and whitening agent. After taking a bath, you can rub a cut and halved fruit to your underarm. It can also be used to remove stains on clothes. You just squeeze a few drops of its juice to the stain while washing it.

For those who do not want to be bothered by preparing, cutting and squeezing the juice, there are many available ready-to-drink calamansi juice, juice concentrate, jam and jelly.

If somebody gets dizzy, crumple some leaves of the calamansi and let the dizzy person smell it.

2. Garlic

Another natural healthy food we take is a common kitchen herb called garlic. I came to know of its uses through my readings of science and medical books. Being a teacher, I have to upgrade my knowledge about various things. I just tried it on my husband after reading that it has a blood thinning properties. It purportedly helps reduce cholesterol and fatty deposits.

Since the early human history, the garlic is considered as one of the most dynamic natural food because of the properties of healing that it possesses. During that time, garlic was used to treat infections, wounds, viral or bacterial diseases, diabetes, altitude sickness, bronchitis, asthma, and sinusitis and a host of other diseases. At present, researchers found out that garlic also contains hundreds of different chemical components which make it an all natural medicine. It works together with our body's immune system. You cannot also discount the fact that it is used as seasoning to improve the flavor of all kinds of dishes. Its distinct odor cannot be missed and we can’t imagine many dishes not using garlic.

However, using garlic as a remedy does not mean that we can be cured by it overnight. It should be taken regularly just like any other medications. There are people who eat one whole clove of raw garlic but there are also some who like to take it in capsule form. A word of caution, though, not all people can take garlic. A person should consult a doctor if he/she feels something is not right after taking it. This is especially true if one is taking other medicines.

As for my husband, he has not experienced an increased level of cholesterol since regularly taking it in raw form. This reinforced y belief that garlic is a natural healthy food.

3. Virgin Coconut Oil

There are times when I feel so tired easily. A friend recommended this virgin coconut oil and I love it since the day I started using it. I take 3 tablespoon of it but now I reduce it to 2. I even blend it with calamansi when I give it to my son.

VCO, as it is popularly called, is a versatile, natural healthy food.

I particularly like its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties. It also gives me enough energy. Another benefit that I derive from it is that it aids in proper metabolism and digestion. In fact, I use it for slimming down as I can take 3 tablespoon of it in the morning even without eating breakfast.

Thanks for reading, injured lamb. I really am using this calamansi. I have proven its health benefits for how many years now. Maybe it's the same with the lime you are talking about since they come from the same family.

Thanks, frogyfish. As regards the coconut oil, if you will notice, I lessened the amount that I am taking. It really has great health benefits but I notice I am having palpitations now. I also know of someone who's having the same case so she stopped taking it for the meantime. Maybe the dosage should be lessened.

Very interesting. Your calamansi sounds similar, though better than our limes. Garlic is a familiar herbal and has been so a long time. The coconut oil you had such good response to might be due to the fact that it helps our thyroid work, assists in the transfer of T3 to T4 which is the form needed by our body. That and its antiseptic value makes it an important nutritional food for me, as I take it to assist my low thyroid medication. Great hub!

I think calamansi can be purchased at your local supermarket, if not, you can go visit a filipino store there. I really don't like the taste of coconut oil. I just take it for its health benefits.
