How to Start Charting Changes in Your Mood
Logging the changes in your mood and overall mental health helps you remember what happened, identify patterns and triggers and communicate more effectively with your doctor about all of the above.
I am SchizoAffective and am only very recently starting to manage my mental health effectively, in part because daily I take careful note of all the changes in my moods and symptoms. You can download free Excel and PDF versions of the mood tracker worksheets I use. They can be used as is, or modified for Depression, PTSD, Anxiety, Bipolar, Schizophrenia and other mental illnesses.
Identify triggers and patterns and communicate better with your doctor.
Monthly Mood Tracking Chart - This is How I Communicate Changes in My Mental Health to My Psychiatrist
I have SchizoAffective Disorder. It's a bit like having Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia. One of the things that is really hard for me is communicating with my doctor. Communication. Period. Is. Hard. For. Me (at least in person - I seem to do fairly well typing on a computer).
So being able to hand my doctor a monthly mood chart is a life saver. That's when we really started making progress.

I work with people experiencing mental health issues and I think mood trackers such as these can prove incredibly helpful in explaining recent patterns of moods when it comes to chatting with your doctor/psychologist. I also think simply taking a bit of time each day to reflect on your own mood is important in learning how to recognize when you might need to seek help.
