Heart of the matter

This is the story of one fine day,

when my sweetheart broke my heart,

With a bleeding heart, I remembered

all the moments- heartrending, disheartening, heartburning.


And then I lay down with a sore aching heart for company.

The irregular heartbeat woke me up to dreams,

heartrending dreams of betrayal, neglect, and abuse

that vain, stone-hearted me had inflicted on it.


Heartless, I was forgetting its heartfelt service,

Of a million and more heartbeats,

Through all the moments -heartaches or heavy-hearted,

But its efforts, never half-hearted.


The heart to heart left me shaken.

Had I become as cold-hearted and black-hearted as those I whined about?

For here was someone so large-hearted,

with heart and soul working for me alone.


On that day, I had a change of heart-

not to take anything to heart but instead, follow my heart

to recollect only the heart-touching and the heart-warming,

For in the innermost chambers of my heart- the truth burns bright.

Interesting Facts about your Heart

- Your heart is the size of your fist

- Your heart beats about 100000 times per day. In a year, the heartbeats between 30- 50 million times depending on your heart rate.

- There you are sitting comfortably on your couch watching tv, eating a high-calorie pizza, and do you care to know what your heart was up to all the while. Beating over a lakh times a day, it manages 2000 gallons of blood and the distance covered by this blood – a staggering 60000 miles of blood vessels spread all over the body. All run by that super-efficient pump called your HEART. Respect. Big time.

- Want to know the diameter of your arteries--you’ll be surprised to know it is only 4mm. No wonder chances of it getting blocked are all too high.

- In literary use, a person with a large-heart is known to be generous but in reality, a person with a large heart or an enlarged heart has a medical problem.

- Imagine a person with a heart-related ailment actually being able to get a new one. These are definite possibilities sometimes in the future as scientists are at work using stem cells to construct a new heart.

Be kind-hearted to your heart – Tips for a heart-healthy lifestyle

- Healthy diet, physical exercise, decent sleep, and happy thoughts are all you need to take care of your heart.

- Your heart’s rhythm and sleep cycle enjoy an alignment. When we sleep, the heart rate drops significantly, and thereby it gets a wee bit of relief.

- Slip in half an hour of exercise 5 days a week. Exercise is also a mood booster. Double treat for your heart.

- When stressed, the body releases chemicals and hormones which up your blood pressure and increases the heart rate among other changes. Sustained stress and multiply the harmful effects many times over. Disastrous. Reflect on what stresses you out and pursue stress reduction techniques such as yoga, meditation, journaling.

- Give some time to your hobby.

- Nuts, fruits, avocados, oats, healthy fats, balanced diet.

- Balance is your best friend – a life where work, rest, and play each have a place.

- Laughing heartily can do your heart a world of good and its beneficial effects can last for as much as 45 minutes. So, indulge in some laughter therapy.

- Wine is supposed to be good for your heart. The actual reason is that grape skin and pulp are loaded with powerful antioxidants that have cardio-protective properties. So remember to add grapes to your diet.

Breathe in. Breathe out.

Breathe in deeply. Breathe out deeply.

Breathe in a little more deeply. Breathe out la little more deeply.

Breathe in a lot more deeply. Breathe out a lot more deeply.


Now as I breathe in, I inhale in all the love, the joy, and laughter I have experienced today.

Now as I breathe out, I release all the fears, doubts, and unhappiness I have felt today.

As I breathe in, I take in deep calm and peace. All is well in my life.

As I breathe out, I let go of all the small worries, big battles. I know that life will find a way.

As I breathe in, I fill myself with gratitude for all the resources I have been lucky to enjoy.

As I breathe out, I release all the worries of the past and my fears of the future. I enjoy today.

Now for the next few moments, just concentrate on your breath,

Relax, and slowly open your eyes.

If you go deeper and deeper into your own heart, you'll be living in a world with less fear, isolation, and loneliness.
