While a journey to recovery is lengthy and hard; the path to recovery is one constant, and that is hoping. Hope is important as it assists with the proper action from beginning to end toward a series of steps leading to a plan for recovery. Without hope or motivation to recover; there is only merely a dream with no road to recovery. One of my favorite quotes is “Everything that is done in the world is done by hope,” by Martin Luther.

There are treatment programs for behavioral addictions and a person with a behavioral addiction needs treatment in the same way as an individual with an addiction to cocaine or alcohol. Research demonstrates that over 30 million individuals in the U.S. alone have an addiction to sex.

Some are so addicted that they find themselves preoccupied with thoughts or behaviors of sexual activities. People with sex addiction are so trapped that porn is their prison. A person addicted to sex can be as destructive as an individual addicted to drugs and alcohol. For sex, most people feel sex enhances their quality of life. Sexual struggles are typical of families of sex addicts.

How to Break free From Sex Addiction

Sexual addiction is a tough habit to break. It is not easy to break free of because most addicted people lie to themselves. The lies come with excuses like I do not have an addiction; I am just spending precious time with an individual I love. To successfully overcome the sex addiction you need to stop lying to yourself.

When you are ready to overcome sex addiction you first must acknowledge, you have a problem with an efficient attitude. After admitting you have a problem, you must decide to change. To make a change is what it will take to break the bondage, the addiction has over you. The next step is to seek a counsellor; he or she will help you to stop lying to yourself. Counseling will help you to be entirely truthful about your sex addiction.

It will also equip you with an efficient method on how to overcome your sex addiction. Here are a few techniques a counselor might advise a sexually addicted person to repress their addictive desires: Stop looking at porn on the Internet. Don't watch movies that have sex stimulating in them. When you feel sexual desire, don't hesitate to contact me. With all these advices and the council proper guidance, the sexually addicted person will be motivated to face his/her addictive desires.

When a person makes an attempt to get control over sex addiction, they are doing much more than breaking a bad habit. They are struggling to change their deepest and most personal feelings. Sometimes the first try fails, but that does not mean you should be discouraged if the first try is a burst. You are dealing with profoundly deep feelings that are not easy to transform. In time, you will get your addiction under control if you hang in there and not give up. Keep in mind; every failure is a new experience that teaches you how to deal with the situation next time.

You will encounter difficulty as you strive to get the addiction under control, but don’t confuse the careful with the impossible. It is not impossible, and you will realize with the proper approach, what sometimes seems to be impossible can actually be very doable. Thousands of people have benefited from the experience of failure, don’t allow failure to stand in the way of your progress. Of course, deciding you want to stop an addiction does not mean you can just blink like Jeannie in I Dream of Jeannie, and you cured.

It takes hard work, first-time failure, honesty, determination, self-awareness and a commitment never to give up. To successfully overcome your addiction you cannot be afraid of failure. Realize in this very traditional world; we have to understand that there are things that feel good that are not good that will lead to offensive penalties. Not dealing with sex addiction will bring about consequences. Hang in there and know it will feel good to conquer your sex addiction.
