How to Tackle Negativity?

What is Negativity?

Before, heading towards the main topic. Let just understand that what is negativity?

Have you notice that whenever something bad happens to you then your mind is full of bad things, you feel that something opposing you and you are not able to work to the best of your capability. You are always in the thoughts that 'I am looser', 'I am not able to do this thing', 'what people think about me', and in this case, your mind secretes Cortisol, the stress hormone that makes you feel depressed and anxious.

Remember negativity is very contagious if you give it chance then it just destroys your life. Negativity is just like a prison that confines you and degrades your own capability. So, beware of this virus-like disease.

Sources of Negativity

According to Jay Shetty, author of 'Think like a Monk', that if you want to get rid of the negativity then find its source. Yeah, you heard right you have to find the sources that built negativity in your own mind. If you find such sources then you are successful to make your way out of the negativity and allow yourself to make your life more fulfilling.

Our mind is full of external influences that guide us towards the path of negativity which leads to anxiety, depression etc. It takes thousands of influences from external sources in a day, some of them are positive and the majority of them are negative thoughts. Through these major negative influences, you feel negative. According to Muniba Mazari, a Pakistani activist, if you allow negativity to disrupt your internal environment then it will destroy your life and always force you to believe that you are looser.

As I mentioned above that if you wanted to get rid of the negativity then first find the sources of negativity. Maybe it is your friend circle, family or movies, find them and analyze how you will change these sources for the positive influence. But I don't want to make it complex for you, instead, I am going to tell you some sources that help to find the track of negativity. In day to day life, we meet different people that are negative

Ways to build a strong wall against negativity

Now, I hope that you find all the sources that build the ladder of negativity in your life. If you don't find it till now then find it as much as possible.

If you find those sources that help negativity to grow roots in your life then analyze how that emotion affects the thinking power of your mind and makes you feel negative. If you find the answer then, Congrats!! Now try to find out how you change that feeling into a positive one. Let's take an example, suppose that one of your friends said to you that you are stupid and not able to do anything in your life, then instead of convincing yourself that you are ugly and looser, say to yourself that you are grateful for what you have. Gratitude is like an elixir for your life. If you feel gratitude for what you have when you allow yourself to reflect your values, intentions in your minds and this realization helps you to tackle negativity, it basically disallows the negativity to enter your mind. Jay Shetty said in his book 'Think Like a Monk', that if you transform your mind from Monkey mind(temptation, greed, lust, etc) to Monk mind(positivity, gratitude, sympathy etc), then you free yourself from the prison of negativity.

You can also try the spot, stop and swap method to get rid of the negativity. In this method, you have to spot the sources, as I mentioned above, then stop them from inflicting your life and at the last step swap them into a positive one, in this way you can effectively remove negativity from your mind. But don't expect that you can conquer your negativity in a single time, only a god or an expert can do so. No one can conquer negativity in a single attempt, it takes time to control negativity.

Other strategies to get rid of the negativity.

  • Do meditation. Meditation allows or helps you to transform your mind from a monkey mind to a monk mind.
  • Give yourself some time of 10 or 30 minutes to realize your values and feel gratitude about such values.
  • Read good books. Personal suggestion Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty.
  • Spend some time doing service for others. Listen, you don't need to be rich for the service of others. You can help anyone who needs help.
  • Spend your time with quality peoples, not with those peoples who are always negative.

So, these are the good habits that help you to overcome negativity, anxiety etc.
