Unfortunately there have been many unscrupulous companies and individuals who have claimed to have the cure or the treatment for this condition only to be proven later to be scamming unwary and desperate customers. There are remedies which do remove warts including over-the-counter solutions and some home remedies which have some success.

The best wart removers contain salicylic acid which is a keratolytic or a peeling agent. This causes the outer layer of skin to shed. Salicylic acid is a topical treatment for removing warts slowly causing them to shed and shrink and eventually to disappear. The salicylic acid must be applied over a course of days, perhaps even a month until the wart shrinks up and eventually drops off. Each individual's situation will be different and each person will typically react differently to each wart remedy. Some may be more effective with some people than others and it may take more than one type of solution to get rid of a wart.

Tips on Using A Wart Remover That Contains Salicylic Acid

When using a wart remover that contains salicylic acid it is important not to get it in the mouth, or eyes or inside the nose or on the lips. It is also very important not to get the salicylic acid on the anal area or on the genitals. Never use salicylic acid on birthmarks or moles or on warts with hair growing from them or those that are an unusual color or that have red edges. Do not use salicylic acid on any areas of the body which are sunburned, wind burned, chapped, and dry, have broken or irritated skin or on open wounds. If any acid gets on these areas, wash with water immediately.

Talk with a doctor before using any product containing salicylic acid for wart removal if there is any history of the following:

- Treating a child

- Poor circulation

- Diabetes

- Liver Disease

- Kidney Disease

If there are any of these presently of if there have been any of these in the past, salicylic acid may not be appropriate for use or a dosage adjustment may be necessary or special monitoring by a health professional may be required during treatment.

The effects of salicylic acid on an unborn child are unknown so do not use a product containing salicylic acid if pregnant, could become pregnant or if nursing before talking with a doctor.

Salicylic acid should be used exactly as directed by the healthcare professional or as directed on the package. If these instructions are not clear, ask a pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them. The following are typically the steps that should be taken:

1. Clean the affected area gently with soap and water. Pat dry. Gently remove any loose skin with a clean washcloth, emery board or a soft brush and the wipe with a clean, soft dry cloth.

2. Shake the bottle of medication gently.

3. Apply a thin layer of medication to the affected areas. Allow to dry. Apply a second thin layer, if directed.

It is important to continue to use the best wart remover with salicylic acid continuously until the desired results are achieved. It may take several weeks to see results, so do not stop using the wart remover if no results are seen immediately. Continue to use the best wart remover as directed for the full amount of time directed by the healthcare professional or as directed on the package. If excessive burning, dryness, changes in the color of the skin, or irritation to the skin are experienced, talk with a doctor immediately.

If a dose of the medication is missed, apply the dose of medication as soon as it is remembered and continue on as is scheduled. Do not double up on a dose of medication. Do not ingest the medication.
