How to Feel Happier in Life

I'm in my 3rd year of my degree in CS, but I'm just 18. Apart from that, I enjoy video games and I plan to take up a career in Accounting.

What Is Happiness?

Happiness is an emotional state of a person in which the person feels and shows pleasure or contentment. When an individual is in a state of happiness, he or she feels satisfaction, contentment, joy, and fulfillment. Happiness is a lot more than a positive mood, it can also be used in the context of subjective well-being, life satisfaction, and individual well-being.

How to Feel Happier in Life

A lot of people feel that being happy is not a thing they can control, but in reality, your happiness is completely under your control. If you want to be happier, you need to change your view or perspective to be accepting of whatever life throws at you, like the saying “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”.

These are some actions you can take to feel happier in life.

Think Positively:

The easiest way to become happier is to become more optimistic in life. You need to be able to monitor and control your thoughts, notice when negative thoughts are springing up in your mind, and fight them with positive thoughts. Surrounding yourself with positive thinkers will go a long way in your journey to feeling happier in life.

Stop Comparing Yourself To Others:

If you pick up the habit of looking at your life on its terms rather than wishing you had much more money or friends or even a better job or car, you’d be able to let go of bitterness and jealousy and live a happier life. Remember that every individual has his or her struggles and strong suit, and no one can have everything. You are being unfair to yourself by measuring your progress by looking at what other people have achieved.

Build your Resilience:

Resilience is what helps you to cope with life’s ups and downs. It involves making something worthwhile out of your painful times or experiences. For example, if you had just lost your job, you could see it as an opportunity for you to switch careers and try something new. Setbacks are a part of life, and no one is immune to them. When you are having a hard time, do your best to find a silver lining, this can help you feel better at that moment and help you grow too.

Boost your Self-Esteem:

Self-Esteem is simply the way you feel about yourself. The best way to improve your self-esteem is to treat yourself the same way you’d treat your important friend. Forgive yourself if you make any errors in a task you are handling, and encourage yourself. Having good self-esteem is vital, and it will help in making your life happier

Manage your Stress Levels:

Sometimes, unhappiness can be linked to a high-stress level, maybe your job is too demanding, or schoolwork is too difficult, these factors can affect your happiness. Managing your stress level is a key role in living a happier life. You can manage your stress levels by creating a schedule for yourself, taking time off tasks to relax or rest, enjoying your free time or weekends with family and loved ones. Simple activities such as watching TV shows with a friend can improve your day.

Final Thoughts

Happiness comes from all the small things and habits you do every day.
