Gift Ideas to celebrate new Big Sister

Becoming a Big Sister is a very exciting but often confusing event. Now is a good time to assure your older child that she holds a special place in your heart and that no one can replace her. It's important to start preparing for changes in your daily routine well before the baby brother or sister's arrival. Take the time to look over the older siblings baby pictures and answer any questions she might have about babies. Encourage her to express any concerns she may have and discuss how she would like to help take care of the newborn. Also, be sure to get her a little gift to celebrate her becoming a big sister. Here you will find new big sister gift ideas that will help you celebrate and prepare for the new addition to the family.

Best books for a new Big Sister

When young children think about a new baby, they often picture a play buddy, someone to share fun activities with, not a crying baby with smelly diapers who takes time and attention away from the older child. Sibling relationships will play a very essential role in your child's development, therefore, it is very important to prepare your child for the arrival of the new baby and encourage good sibling relationships from day one. And one of the best ways to do that is to introduce her to books about new baby and big sister. Below you will find our top picks of books that will help your child understand what being a Big Sister is really like and will explain the differences between the big sister and the baby, give Big Sister (and you) ideas on how she can help, and remind you how important it is to make one-on-one time with your older child. A book about new baby and big sister is one of the best new big sister gift ideas.

New Big sister gift ideas - for little girls

Little girls are usually very excited about the arrival of a new sibling. However, they don't anticipate the sudden shift in parental attention and changes in family's daily routine. After the initial excitement of being a Big Sister wears off, little girls may feel confused and have hurt feelings. In order to make the transition to being a Big Sister more smooth, I recommend the baby doll gifts below. You may want to buy the gifts early and then wait to give them to the Big Sister on the day you give birth to your baby. Later, you can encourage your older child to take care of her baby just the way Mom or Dad takes care of her newborn. Instead of feeling left out, your little girl will feel included and will enjoy imitating parents.

Big Sister Gifts - to remind her how special she is

Big sisters are very special. And these are some great gifts to remind her how important she is. Help her celebrate the important event, make a big deal out of it with big sister satin sash, necklace, and hair bows. The big sister photo album is a fun keepsake to fill with big sis' baby pictures that she can show off to friends and family, and "The Big Sibling Book: Baby's First Year According to ME" is a fun journal to help her prepare for the new baby and express her feelings towards him or her. The journal is recommended for ages 2 to 6, but older kids would enjoy it too.

"Big Sister" gift basket or tote filled with goodies

Consider giving the Big Sister a gift basket or a Big Sister tote filled with crayons, coloring books, a kids camera, a drawing pad, and a book about Big sister - great "busy" bag to take to the hospital.

Fun gifts to brighten up the Big Sis' day - and give Mom and Dad some extra time with the baby

Occupying an older sibling while taking care of a newborn is not a simple task. It's a good idea to plan in advance and have play-doh, games, legos, and puzzles on hand, so that you can have a minute for yourself and/or the baby. You can stock up on the gifts before the baby arrives and then gift them to your child one at a time (once a week, for example). The toys will come especially handy on the days your older child feels down or left out. These new big sister gift ideas may also come handy around the time of your baby shower - it's a good idea to get a little something for the Big Sister-to-be when the little one and Mom are showered with gifts and attention.

New Big sister gift ideas - How are you preparing for the arrival of new baby? Do you have some unique new big sister gift ideas? Please do share :)

These are great ideas. I just had my third baby 6 weeks ago and I'm a big believer in buying the older siblings a special gift. It's important that they don't feel overlooked and a part of things. I always give it to them from the baby while at the hospital:)

These are great big sister gift ideas. It's tough for kids to have to adjust to a new baby getting so much attention, parents need to do their best to give the older sibling special attention. :)

I wish giving the big sister a present too when baby is born was around when I was a kid, because I am the oldest of 4!

As a big sister to 2, and as a mom of a big sister (5 years older than little sis), I love this lens. We let our then-5yo daughter name her little sister - she named her after my youngest sister. That was kind of special.

This is sweet and couldn't help but remembering some times I've treasured with my own big sister...she's a little out of your age range here but I should think of something special for her as a surprise....this is sweetness. I do have a granddaughter who has been a very good big sister to her brother and is about to have a baby sister soon, she'll be Mommy's little helper for sure. :)

My little one doesn't have a big sister yet (unless I count the dog who likes to act like her big sister :) I love Enesco Big Sister Photo Album, I had something similar when growing up with my little sister and it is still the most treasured thing for us 30+ years later.
