5 Foods That Fight Cancer - The Science Behind It All

Their findings show that eating lots of fruit and vegetables reduces your chances of developing certain types of cancers. Eating too much red meat increases your risk of bowel cancer. And drinking alcohol increases your risk of breast cancer.

There are several foods that have been shown to reduce the risk of developing certain cancers. These foods contain compounds called antioxidants, which protect our bodies against free radicals. Free radicals are molecules with unpaired electrons that damage DNA and cell membranes. Antioxidants neutralize these free radicals by donating electrons to them.

2. Broccoli

3. Olive oil

Olive oil contains antioxidants which may help prevent cancer. Researchers at the University of California, San Diego, found that people who ate extra virgin olive oil had lower levels of DNA damage than those who did not eat any. The study showed that the antioxidant properties of the oil could protect against cancer.

4. Turmeric

Researchers believe that the fibre in beans helps keep the digestive system healthy. It's thought that the phytochemicals in beans could also protect against certain types of breast and prostate cancer.
