Alternative Cancer Treatment : Gerson Therapy

The Gerson Therapy

Alternative cancer treatment : Gerson Therapy

I came across an unpretentious little booklet titled “Close to nature, far away from death”. Below the title : “ A personal experience in natural healing as a way to cure cancer”. It is about an alternative cancer treatment. This alternative cancer treatment is called “The Gerson Therapy”. The author of this booklet is a Thai Buddhist monk by the name of Kittiyano Bhikkhu. He lives in Southern Thailand; to the south is Malaysia. It is just a few hours’ drive north across the Thai/Malaysia border from where I live. This in a way brought the monk’s message closer to me. So I started reading it. I shall provide the link to the PDF file for this booklet at the end of this article.

By the way, as you would have known, “The Gerson Therapy” was developed by a German doctor, Max Gerson (1881-1959). He experimented with his therapy in 1928 when a woman cancer patient asked him to treat her. With his diet and detoxification program, the woman responded positively; and from then on the whole world came to know of this alternative cancer treatment called “The Gerson Therapy”. With the advent of the internet, there is no stopping of the worldwide dissemination of this piece of life-saving information. I shall provide the relevant links to the websites of “The Gerson Therapy” at the end of this article.

Very briefly, this Gerson therapy involves a regimented program of nutritious diet, detoxification, oxygen therapy, medication, behavior and lifestyle change, and psychological motivation, and environmental change.

Right now let’s take a look at what this Thai Buddhist monk has to share. Please read on.

Front cover of "Close to nature"

Alternative cancer treatment : The little booklet.

It is most fascinating that the doctor who treated this monk was once an advanced stage cancer patient himself, but was cured by the Gerson therapy! His name is Dr. Samran Arbsuwan. To add authenticity and credence to the monk’s personal testimony, Dr. Samran wrote a “Forward” for the book. He has this advice, which I quote:

“As a medical doctor as well as a cancer patient once myself, I would like to share my experience and my understanding of cancer with others. I wish that no one would fall sick with cancer. This terrible painful disease brings to the patient and his/her family a feeling of hopelessness that cancer is terminal and a fearful sense that death is looming. Cancer is not necessarily terminal. While modern medicine has yet to find a cure for cancer, I want all to realize this and in every possible way to maintain good health and to avoid developing the disease. For those who are now living with cancer, do not feel frightened, do not be saddened, do not blame anyone, do not lose your wits, instead be wise, sensibly alert and mindful. Seek out information on cancer treatment that is as scientific and reasonable as possible. Do not accept only information from modern medical doctors who usually suggest surgery, radiation, and chemical therapy. These treatments could worsen the body condition. There are other methods of remedy that are widely available. Somehow the public at large does not seem to be aware of this alternative treatment.”

(Dr. Samran Arbsuwan : 21 December 2007)

Alternative cancer treatment : A Thai Buddhist monk’s personal testimony

Kittiyano Bhikkhu ( “Bhikkhu” means monk) was diagnosed to have skin cancer known as malignant melanoma, and the cancer had spread through the lymph glands to several other organs including the liver. It was at a terminally advanced stage. This was on September 3, 2007. The doctors as usual recommended surgery, which had only an 8% chance of recovery! Good fortune came to him when very timely, he received through the post, a book written by a doctor who was cured of advanced liver cancer by Dr. Samran himself using the Gerson Therapy. This led Kittiyano Bhikkhu to contact Dr. Samran and was advised by the good doctor to commence treatment immediately. The treatment was at the Be Mes Clinic in Kaoyai National Park, Nakorn Ratchasrima, which is somewhere northeast of Bangkok, Thailand. The treatment started on 20 September 2007.

Within a spate of only 3 months, the cancer was reduced by 80%! Very briefly, the therapy treatment involved the following:

  • Megadose injection of organopeptide (from organs of offsprings of animals)
  • Oxidation injection
  • Chelation and Glutathione injection (to remove poisonous heavy metals and toxins from the bloodstream)
  • Medication (vitamins and tablets)
  • Fruit and vegetable juice
  • Special diet
  • Herbal sauna
  • Detoxification using coffee and castor oil
  • Breathing exercise
  • Body and mind equanimity
  • Confidence, motivation, and healthy environment
  • A complete change to wholesome lifestyle

A Sad Update : Tuesday, September 11, 2012

I am very sad to announce that CT Chang leaves this world today, exactly three full years to the day, after being diagnosed with cancer. You are invited to read my article as a tribute to CT Chang: CLICK HERE

Alternative cancer treatment : What is the message?

Enough said. What is the message then?

  • Live a wholesome lifestyle to maintain a healthy life.
  • Cancer is not a death sentence, it’s only a 6-letter word.
  • Big Brother mainstream treatments have both success and failure cases.
  • Alternative cancer treatments also have both success and failure cases.
  • Does this mean we should reject alternative treatment?
  • Does this mean we should only accept conventional mainstream treatments?

However, if anyone is on conventional cancer treatment, this article by another Hubpages writer is worth reading: "Ten Things I Wish My Doctor Told Me About Chemotherapy".

Pdf file for “Close to nature, far away from death” by Kittiyano Bhikkhu :

97% of the time, chemotherapy doesn't work....

Good afternoon Marie Flint,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We are what we eat. I try to eat more vegies nowadays.

Marie Flint from Jacksonville, FL USA on November 01, 2013:

Thank you for writing about the Gerson Therapy from this unique perspective. Changing one's diet can be a jolt and be a hindrance to social ties with family and friends, but death is worse.

I became vegetarian at age 21; today I'm vegan. I still have many changes to make. For a 61-year-old, I could be doing much worse--everything is relative. Some of the things on which I'm working include vision health (myopia/astigmatism/presbyopia), dental health (misalignment of lower incisors, numerous amalgam fillings, and receding gums), general rehydration (sounds like fiberglass when turning my head), and digestive health (some flatulence). I realize all these things are connected.

The information presented in this hub is inspiring to those seeking answer not provided by their doctors. And, we are much more than a physical body.

Thank you for sharing.

This was extremely interesting. I, also, am a Cancer survivor, but I was lucky because I lived a healthy lifestyle and the Cancer was found very early before it invaded my body. I agree that things that work for one do not work for all. Choosing care is a very big decision and one I hope never to have to make again. Excellent article. Voted up and sharing.

I have heard both positive and negative. However it seems to me that a healthy life style can only help. Interesting hub and one worthy of thought.

Is Graviola A Miracle Cancer Cure?

The popular belief is that complete cancer cure is only possible with radiation therapy or chemotherapy since this kills cancer cells, but you can prevent cancer from recurring by using natural remedies for cancer. Recent research has shown that graviola, also known as paw-paw or custard apple, may be helpful in natural cancer treatment although no significant medical research exists around this.

Brilliant Good Guy, keep up the good work. MaitakeExtract refers to a wife "who put her husband on strict food therapy....." My link (look under History)will show you my history with cancer which has led me to meet many people living with cancer and whatever route you choose must be of your choosing. However good the intentions of a wife, sister, other family member or friend are the therapy won't be as effective as if it is of your own choosing. Gerain Tosh's book Living Proof is his experience with the Gerson Therapy. I spent two years living like a virtual nun and adhering to a very strict diet inspired by Gerain Tosh's book and by 2004 was the healthiest I had ever been in my entire adult life. After a second emotional ride in my life (a second disastorous marrraige) my Leukamiea reapperaed in 2009. I reverted to my strict diet, bretahing exercises and other alternative therapies and within 3 months was back to health. I can no longer afford to live the life I know would keep me well for many years to come, but hope to be able to go to Bali for six months detox when my son is older. However, just juicing organic carrotts every day for a week puts a spring back in my step. When recently a sceptic said to my son now aged 14 - you don't go along with all this do you, my son (who lives a very normal teenage life) said yes, organic food tastes better, makes him feel better and "Mummy's funny walk (my breathing exercise) looks funny, but keeps her well." My point is that YOU have to want to live. YOU have to put the effort in. Goodguy, The Gerson Therapy is apsolutley the way to go.

Justin Choo (author) from Malaysia on February 26, 2011:

Hi MaitakeExtract,

Thanks for sharing. I think you are missing an important point here. We are not talking about fine cuisine. Gerson therapy is a serious treatment programme for those already inflicted with cancer. It is not a matter of liking what you eat. It is a matter of life and death.

Be that as it may, as I said, the important message here is that cancer patients have a choice in treatment. It is up to each patient to decide on what he or she wants to do with his or her life, or rather, what's left in life.

MaitakeExtract on February 25, 2011:

Good guy,

Thanks for the info on Gerson Therapy.

In some ways, I like the Gerson ideas.

In other ways, they may be problematic.

For most food therapies, including Gerson's, the rules about what you "can" and "cannot" eat are quite strict and almost set in stone.

And the very important issue that most food treatments seem to miss is, eating food should be an enjoyable thing. That you love and appreciate every bite and look forward to the next meal. Keeping a strong appetite and having balanced nutrition. And have eating as social thing with friends or family.

If a person can't stand eating veggies all day, they will not be happy eating and their quality of life will drop significantly. Where eating becomes a chore and a depressing idea. The effects of Gerson therapy on this type of person may be quite different than on a patient who is already a vegetarian.

Especially if we consider that these people may actually die. And they should at least enjoy their lives until the end.

I know a woman who put her husband on strict food therapy for cancer. And she forever regrets pushing the strict rules because on the death bed of her husband, he told her "I just want to eat sushi one more time". But it was too late. He died regretting not eating his favoirte food. And his wife lives on, regretting her control of his food. And I've heard the same story many times from acquaintances.

We need food to be balanced, enjoyable and nourishing.

I hope I'm not a downer on this post. I actually like Gerson. It's just that I've also seen the other side of many alternative and main stream treatments personally.

In conclusion, flexible os better than strict. Especially about eating. (and life in general)

Thanks Good guy.

You are doing a good thing to bring this info to people.

Justin Choo (author) from Malaysia on February 25, 2011:

Hi MaitakeExtract,

As far as I know, Gerson therapy is a very comprehensive treatment. It incorporates medical treatment as well. So a patient definitely needs to undergo the therapy under the strict supervision of a Gerson expert. I think if you go to the links, you could find the various centres around the world. The monk described above got his treatment in Thailand.

MaitakeExtract on February 25, 2011:

No, we didn't have a Gerson therapy expert. We read the books and implemented it into our daily lives.

Tons of fresh made juices throughout the day. No salt, sugar, meat etc. Doing Coffee enemas.

Plus we did alot more, like 714-X, Japanese traditional medicine, Chinese traditional medicine, Maitake extract.

Also some new minimally invasive treamtents like microcatheter surgery. And major allopathic treaments.

Do you know anybody who has actually moved their life to Mexico to have a Gerson Expert?

Justin Choo (author) from Malaysia on February 25, 2011:

Hi MaitakeExtract,

Did your wife follow the therapy under a Gerson therapy expert?

MaitakeExtract on February 24, 2011:

Hey Good guy. My wife did the Gerson diet for over a year when she got lung cancer. But she got very thin from it and a top level Chinese medicine doctor dignosed her as nutrient deficient. So she started to eat thing like fish and eggs again and has bounce back well.

It's been 4 years now.
