What is Yes.fit and Why Would You Want to Use It?
Yes.fit is a super easy to use fitness app with several unique features that make it a little more fun and motivating than some other fitness apps you may be familiar with. You can use this app to track any kind of exercise that you generally measure in miles (walking, jogging, biking, hiking, or even swimming).
The main premise behind Yes.fit is that you participate in virtual races of varied lengths, and each time you finish a race you get a prize in the mail.
The app itself is free, but you do have to pay for each race you participate in. That being said, the prices of the races range between $25-$30 which is cheaper than a lot of races I've registered for, so I thought it was a great deal.

What Is a Virtual Race and How Does It Work?
I was a little confused about what a virtual race was when I first came across the Yes.fit app, but once I learned a little bit more about it, I fell in love with the idea.
Basically, instead of lining up on the starting line with hundreds of other people at a specific time to run a 5k, a half marathon, or whatever other race you may be a fan of, you just set a mileage goal and track your miles using the app.
Each virtual race is set in a specific location and requires you to run a specific amount of miles.
For example, the Unicorn Race was a 121.1 route through Scotland since the unicorn is the official animal of Scotland.
You can either manually enter your own mileage or you can connect Yes.fit to the fitness app of your choice, and it will automatically update your mileage whenever you do a workout.
I use the Strava app to keep track of my runs, so I connected it to the app and whenever I recorded a run on Strava, my progress would automatically pop up on Yes.fit as well.
One fun part of this app is that you can see your progress on a map after each run (I included a picture of the Unicorn race route below so you can see what the map is like). If you tap on the points where you've finished each individual run, a google image of that place on the map pops up.
In other words, even though I did most of my running in my own neighborhood, I could come home and look at the scenes of the Scottish countryside that I would have seen had I actually been running on my specific route in Scotland. I really enjoyed that aspect of the app.
As soon as you finish your race, you get your prize (either a t-shirt of a medal) shipped to you without you having to do anything.
My Experience With the Unicorn Race
I first came across this app when an ad for the unicorn race popped up on the internet. I've had a bit of a unicorn obsession since I was a little girl, so as soon as I saw that there was a race that would get me a unicorn t-shirt, I was excited.
I clicked on the link to find out when and where this race was, and that was the first time that I learned about virtual races. I loved the idea for a couple reasons.
I've done several races in the past, but I liked the idea that this one was 121.1 miles long, because it seemed like a bigger challenge.
I also love race t-shirts, and I thought it was awesome that I could get a 121.1 mile t-shirt for the same price (or even less than the price of) a 5k t-shirt. Usually the longer a race is, the more money it costs to participate, but this was like running an ultramarathon for a fraction of the price...OK, and without running it all at once.
There's an option on the Yes.fit app that allows you to set a goal for when you want to finish the race, but I opted out of the timeline goal. I figured if I finish 121.1 miles, I'd be happy no matter how long it took.
That being said, in my head I kind of created an unofficial goal of three months. I figured if I got done in three months that would be like running 2 miles a day for five days each week. It seemed realistic and doable.
Well, what happened when I started this race is that I was so excited to get my t-shirt that I not only increased the amount of days I was running, but I also increased my mileage too. By the time I finished, I found myself running 2.5-4 miles on most days (compared to 1.5-3 mile runs when I started).
I even got in a five mile and an eight mile run in the last week of my race. The eight mile run did have a few walking breaks mixed in, but I was running for the most part, and I felt like a champion! That was the first time in my life that I'd run that far!
I finished the race in just a day over two months! It felt so good on that last day when I got the notification on Yes.fit that my race was complete!
I'm not an ultramarathoner yet, but to be honest, by the time I finished this race, I felt like I'd achieved a huge accomplishment, and for how good it felt, I might as well have finished an ultra.
This app made running so much more fun for me, because I had a goal, and I knew I was getting a prize. Of course, exercising is a prize in itself. It makes you feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally, but I love wearing my unicorn t-shirt with pride (I'll include a picture below so you can see how it fits).
How's the Quality and Sizing of the Shirts?
If you're anything like me, you get nervous ordering clothes on line, because you never know how the quality will be or whether or not the sizing will be accurate.
I think the shirt I got is great quality and very true to it's size. I ordered a size small which is what I usually wear. As you can see in the picture above, this shirt fits great.
Obviously if you're someone who's usually in between sizes or prefers a loose fit, you might want to order up a size. There were also unisex options available, but I wanted the more feminine cut, so that's what's pictured in my photo.
