Would You Donate A Kidney?

Kidneys

Kidneys

"Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love" (Mother Teresa)

Love is what it is all about. That four letter word has been running around in so many different ways. The Bible has the best realistic definition for it and Jesus proved it with His life for us.

I cannot donate a kidney, but I can write (with great love) a hub for my son's petition (with great love) about sharing the story of a man (with great love) searching for a kidney donor (with great love) for his wife.

Larry Swilling & Jimmie Sue

Larry Swilling is on a mission. His love as a devoted husband dares him to go through the streets asking for a kidney donor. His wife, Jimmie Sue, was born with only one kidney and now it has got to a point where she requires a transplant for another good kidney. No one in their family is a suitable match, and those that have responded to the petition are not either.

The video below will show the real story about Larry Swilling & Jimmie Sue; a very inspirational act of love.

Kidneys

When we are asked if we would donate any part of our body, we want to know if by being a donor, we will still be safe or healthy without a body organ.

What are the kidneys, since it is the organ asked by Larry for his wife? These pair of organs, about the size of a fist, are located in the back of the abdomen. Any symptoms or problems may be experienced even when we lose 90% of the kidney functions, which are:

  • Filter all our blood several times a day
  • Make hormones to keep strong bones and healthy blood
  • Remove wastes
  • Control body's fluid balance
  • Regulate the balance of electrolytes
  • Create urine

Dialysis

Kidney treatment

When a kidney has failed, only a miracle by God will heal it, otherwise men can only offer treatment for it. Having a living donor, the operation can be done before dialysis starts. Having a kidney transplant may also avoid dialysis, which is the treatment to replace the work the kidneys are supposed to do. Two main types of dialysis to filter blood to rid the body of harmful wastes, extra salt, and water; are:

  1. Hemodialysis = use of a machine to filter wastes, salts, and fluid from the blood.
  2. Peritoneal dialysis = uses the peritoneal membrane of own body as a filter to clear wastes and extra fluid from the body, and to return electrolyte levels to normal.

Be a donor

We can do so much in the name of love. Love wants the best for everyone. Love is not egoistic. Love walks, talks, asks for others well-being, quality of life, and wellness.

Be a donor if it is in your hands to save a life. Be a donor if you are well with the idea. Be a donor if there is nothing that you will lose. Be a donor demonstrating love! You can donate:

  • Time
  • Money
  • Blood
  • Body organs

I wrote this hub in case this news is new for someone like me. I pray and ask prayers that our Creator, Lord, and Savior will let us know when to do such an act of love. I pray and ask prayers for healing, or God.s will be in Larry Swilling & Jimmie Sue life. Amen.
