Fruits are man’s first food. Citrus fruits seem to be one of the best fruits mother-nature endowed humans with. This is because of their excellent mineral, photo nutrients, and vitamin contents.

Vitamin C particularly is found in all fruits and vegetables. Guavas seem to have the highest concentrations of this vitamin C 86%, yet the vitamin C and citric acid potency of guavas fall below lime and lemons. Lemons has 30% vitamin C.

Eating citrus fruits in varieties of 5 mixtures regularly will benefit you in many ways.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins in all fruits and vegetables. We all need it regularly and also has to be replenished daily. But be it known that citrus fruit provides the best source of vitamin. This factor is now recognized by many dieticians and health authorities.

This vitamin later identified as ascorbic acid become significant when scurvy was the scourge of seafaring mariners: sailors, pirates, and naval officers.

It became a feat of the Royal Navy in introducing limes and later lemons to its navy, and a respite was vitally observed. Thus, scurvy was cured and the lack of vitamin C in a chop plate was the cause. This breakthrough was kept a secret by the English navy for a long time because other countries' naval personnel were on the high seas and the disease of scurvy was rampant at sea. A strong navy had to fight with a strong body and destroy the weak one.

So, a person eating or serving citrus fruits regularly to his household can prevent scurvy. It can even be introduced as a remedy to cure the disease, as seen in the navy experiment. Vitamin C prevents and cures scurvy. This is now an accepted fact.

The vitamin C in limes and lemons has a very excellent potency in helping the body grow and develop. For this to take place, collagen is the sole component of connective tissues in the body, without which tendons, skin, blood vessels, dentine, and bones; wound healing and synthesis of strong ligaments become impossible.

Take a Mixture of the Citrus Fruits to Prevent Cold Symptoms

This is the number one and primary reason why you need to eat these citrus fruits or drink their juices regularly. Vitamin C is water-soluble and needs to be replenished frequently in our diets. One tablespoonful of the juice is enough for a man. Children need half or less. The juice has to be diluted in fresh and clean water. Otherwise, the undiluted juice will attack the enamel of the gum and teeth, due to its high citric acid content. 10 mg of vitamin C is needed by a man per day. This you can get in one tablespoonful. But health authority recommended a minimum of 30 mg and a maximum of 100 mg per day for general body health.

But it is more important that you take the fruits in a mixture of varieties like lime, lemon, and grapefruits. Or you mix oranges, lime, and grapefruits. In this way, you get more benefits than eating a single fruit, for not all fruits have the same nutrient content. For example, limes have more citric acid and more vitamin C than lemons and are sourer than the other fruits. Though oranges are sweeter than all the fruits, their vitamin C content is poor. For these reasons, mix them in threes or, fours or fives, so that one complements the other in nutrient content.

An Intestinal and Internal Cleansing Regime

Citrus fruits are the best cleansing regime for the body's internal metabolism. On rising from sleep in the morning, a glass of water flushes your bowels. But it is much better to cut and add a piece of either lime or lemon in a glass of warm water as a refreshing and invigorating drink. This not only cleansed the bowels, but rejuvenated and keeps your bowels in good working other. In fact, a glass of dilute citrus fruit drink is what I and you need as a pre-breakfast before anything else in the morning.

Doing so regularly, help the vitamin C level reach saturation point or stay at peak level in the bloodstream, and you are sure to maintain the 30 to 100 mg recommended by the health authority.

The benefit of this is that your body is well-prepared to digest foodstuff and absorb the same.

The body is also prepared against cold virus and flu, and other viruses that can be harmful to the body. In other words, it will keep the respiratory system healthy. Vitamin C does not cure a cold, but prevents it. For this to happen, the respiratory system has to be regularly kept in good order. Eat at most five citrus fruits weekly for this to happen.

Prevents Kidney Stone Formation

Kidney stones are formed in the body for no other reason than the bad foods we eat. For example, refined carbohydrate foods like noodles, white rice, and white flour are commonly de-mineralized and fortified with chemical additives. Drugs like the synthesis of vitamin C also play a major role in this regard. You can prevent all this and dissolves the stones if they have been formed by eating citrus fruits or by drinking their juices. When I say drinking the juices, I mean that which is made in the home. The above six lists are the most commonly known citrus fruits. Others are clementine, leach lime, sweetly, mandarin, and kumquat; Mineola. Tangelo, ugly, rough lemon, and Satsuma. All citrus fruits are mostly acid-forming. But become alkaline in the bloodstream after digestion.

The fruit of the plant is a berry, with a leathery peel called a flavedo or zest.

All citrus fruits are commonly noted for their rich flavonoid content. How to Make Citrus Fruit Juice

As a boy of 14 years, I learned how to make fruit juice, and preserve them by refrigerating. So I make my fruit juice as natural as possible. Here I will tell you how to make lime, lemon, and grapefruit combined juice.


  1. Three citrus fruits (a pair each of lime, lemon and grape fruit}).
  2. Water for dilution 75 cl.


1. Knife.

2. Jug.

3. Blender.

4. Cooking pot.


  • Wash fruits in clean running water.
  • Peel one piece of each fruit and cut it into two halves.
  • Squeeze the juices into a cut and cover this.
  • For the remaining fruits, peel, in the same way, cut in half, and remove the seeds.
  • Now extract the inner linings or into a blender and blend.
  • Pour this into a pot that contains the water, and boil for 10 minutes.
  • Allowed to cool.
  • Pour this into the fresh fruit juice, until the container or bottle is filled to the top. This expels out any oxygen remaining in the bottle to prevent decomposition.
  • You may add a little Sylvia sweetener instead of sugar or saccharine.
  • Refrigerate for 30 minutes and serve chill.
  • Serves 3 persons only.
  • If you have a cold or cough, serve it at room temperature.

To get the maximum benefits from eating citrus fruits, eat them regularly week after week. If you have not been doing so, the first week should be made a program in which you eat the fruits daily for seven days. Then, keep it to a weekly basis. Eat other fruits along with this. You will build a very strong body, and a strong digestive, immune, and respiratory system.

Citrus fruits top my list of fruits and vegetables due to their versatile medicinal values. By mixing these five fruits regularly, one passed the old school of five servings a day. You get all that the body need for fitness and health.
