The main ways Jesus did ministry was teaching, preaching, and healing because He knew people needed all three.

Teaching shows Jesus was concerned about people's understanding.
Preaching shows Jesus was concerned about people's commitment.
Healing shows Jesus was concerned about people's health and wholeness.

His miracles of healing proved His teaching and preaching were truly from God His Father.

This article focuses on healing because some people might wonder where God is when they are sick and in the need of healing. They need to know that being healed is important to God.

You are probably familiar with 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

The body of a Christian provides a residence for the Holy Spirit to dwell. That's one of the reasons bodies should be taken care of. We should take care of our bodies not just for ourselves, but to take care of the God in us.

God cares for us, and He wants us to be healed not just physically, but also spiritually. God is the Great Physician, and He can heal every sickness and every disease. The Bible is full of examples where people were sick and God healed them.

Hezekiah was sick unto death. He turned his face to the wall and prayed, and God gave him fifteen more years. Job was infected with sores all over his body from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet. Job held onto his faith, and God healed his body and it became as good as new.

The Gospel gives many examples of when Jesus walked the face of the earth and encountered people who were lame, deaf, and blind, and He healed them. He healed Peter's mother-in-law. He healed ten lepers. He healed the woman with the issue of blood for twelve years (Mark 5:25-34) and the ruler of the synagogue's twelve-year-old daughter (Mark 5:35-43).

Our body is the outward manifestation of our spirit. God understands that both the body and the spirit need healing. This might be hard for some people to believe, but as much as God wants physical healing for the body, spiritual healing for the soul is more important to Him.

Before Jesus healed the paralyzed man, these were the first words He said, "I have forgiven your sins." Then He healed the man. God has the power to forgive spiritual sickness, but most people limit His power to only healing physical sickness.

People need spiritual healing, but they focus more on physical healing. When they are sick, they pray more for their physical bodies to be healed so their lives can be prolonged on earth. However, they neglect to pray for their souls to have eternal life in heaven.

Physical Health and Spiritual Heath

God is concerned with every part of our lives, and we should be balanced when it comes to being physically healthy and spiritually healthy. Some people work really hard to have the perfect body, but they do not pay the same attention to having a spirit that pleases God.

The inside of a person should get special attention just as our outward appearance. People can see the outward appearance, but only God can see what's deep down on the inside of us. God wants us to have healthy thoughts and motives for our inside to be one that pleases Him.

Preventive Medicines

We know the pharmacies are full of medicines that cure and prevent us from having colds, the flu, headaches, and other physical ailments. The Bible is full of preventive medicines for spiritual sickness as well.

Obedience to God is the best preventive medicine one can take. God wants us to be obedient to His words in the Bible. They can protect to have a balanced life of physical and spiritual wellness.

Besides being obedient to God, we need to trust God to keep us physically and spiritually well. When we are sick in the body, it can be a reminder to us of our spiritual sickness.

We see in the Bible that Jesus sometimes healed with a single touch. Sometimes Jesus healed with a single word. Jesus still has authority over all diseases. He also has power over all sins. Because sickness and evil are consequences of living in a fallen world, our best preventive medicines are God Almighty and His Son Jesus Christ.

Health and Healing Scriptures

Here are some healthy and healing scriptures to let you know God cares about your good health in you body and in your spirit and soul.

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” (3 John 1:2)

“The LORD will guide you continually, watering your life when you are dry and keeping you healthy, too. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.” (Isaiah 58:11, NLT)

Here is a scripture where David specifically prayed for his body and soul.

"Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint; heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. My soul is in deep anguish." (Psalm 6:2-3)
